  1. Blake Maines gets his first start and win this year. Brady Padgett goes 2-4 with 2 RBIs.
  2. Should probably note that EKU was in attendance to take a look at Smiley, and he did not disappoint with 4 shutout innings. Gave up 1 hit I believe. No walks.
  3. Throw in a couple of stolen bases on the day, too. 5-tool player all around.
  4. Brady Smiley with 4 shutout innings. Cameron Ross closed it for Conner. Fogle is gonna have a big year.
  5. Brady Smiley gets the start and win as Conner goes to 1-0.
  6. Cameron may have hit the deepest HR I've ever seen a HS player hit last year at Lexington Tates Creek. Over the 375 fence in right center, over the trees, and onto the roof of an apartment complex. Conservative estimate: 425 feet.
  7. Just that Brake did tryout and is subsequentially on the team this year. Should help provide some pop in the lineup and depth at 1B.
  8. Love Arlo's demeanor on the field and in the dugout. IMO that's the way you need to approach baseball. Different animal than football or hoops.
  9. Saw Williams the other day. Looks like he has added about 15 lbs of muscle. Expect a big year from him at the plate.
  10. The Austin Brake comeback is in full swoon!
  11. Surprised no mention of Maines at 3b for Conner. Very good glove and very good hitter.
  12. I am not implying at all that this year's team did not play hard. They did. But you play hard no matter your feelings because of your love of the game, your school, your teammates, your pride, etc. I'd say the kids who left and are now rumored to be leaving are the ones who didn't/can't deal with it. It is very easy to blame a coach because your kid isn't playing or is getting yelled at or disciplined. And I for one am tired of disgruntled parents who absolutely nothing having an impact on the way coaches run their program. This is by far an isolated incident a Walton, but it really hits a nerve because of my admiration for Coach Trame.
  13. Coach Trame demands hard work and holds kids accountable. Unfortunately, some parents and players cannot deal with that. It's the "everyone deserves a trophy" mentality. You can be a coach, go to a school and do things the "right" way and wear out your welcome in 4-5 years and have a lot of success. Along the way you will hurt some feelings and upset a parent it two. Or, you can hover around mediocrity, be a "yes" man, never take a stance, and keep your job for 10, 15, 20 years. Reflection of our society and it is pathetic.
  14. Conner made final cuts today after an intrasquad game between the JV and Varsity teams. They played not on the football field but the football parking lot!
  15. Been there for a UK/Ole Miss football game. Beatiful place in more ways than one! Southern Belles and hospitality!
  16. I'd like to congratulate Coach Trame on an outstanding career which included 300+ wins. As a player, you either loved him or hated him. The player that loves him is usually the type of kid you'd want on your team. Hard-nosed, unselfish, works hard, and is willing to bust his tail day in and out. The player who may not be fond of him is well, usually the opposite with whiny parents to boot. You will never hear me say one bad word about Coach Trame.
  17. At the 3 min mark the lead was more in the 5 pt range. There wasn't a big run for Cooper. They were down 9 heading into the 4qtr and seemed to gain a point a minute. The biggest Conmer lead was 13 in the 3rd qtr.
  18. I would dispute some of the observations that Cooper came out flat. As mentioned by many, Coach Sully is a very good coach and known for motivating his players. As such, I seriously doubt they took this game lightly and were not ready to play. Rather, let's give the Conner kids credit for taking this game personally and executing a well-conceived game plan by Coach Hicks to a tee for 3.5 quarters. Some of the perception is that Conner blew the lead by taking ill-advised shots late in the game while sitting on the lead. I can only recall one "bad" shot that was a 3 pter from the wing. The bigger issue was consecutive turnovers and 2 offensive fouls called in the final 3 minutes. Also, Conner shot 25-28 from the line so they showed some courage and fight. At the end of the day congrats to Cooper for finding a way to win. And the shot by Collins was from about 25 feet, while double-pumping, fading towards the bench, with a long Hemmerich all over him. Incredible. My heart goes out to the Conner kids who showed a tremendous amount of passion. This one will no doubt hurt a long long time.
  19. There was some talk between Holmes and Conner to make last night's game the Championship game. It was a unique situation, but ultimately the decision was to play the final game at CCH tonight at 6 pm. This decision was made well BEFORE the game was played last night. Holmes did win last night by 12, but both teams subbed heavily. I'm not exactly sure what the Holmes' stance on this was, but I know Conner wanted to afford their kids the opportunity to play a "real" championship game on a neutral court in what is usually a neat atmosphere for the kids. CCH always does a first-rate job for both the JV and Freshman championship games, so why would you want to deny kids on either side that opportunity?
  20. No. They should play and both teams should use it as an opportunity to let some kids play who may not have had that chance throughout the season. Coach/play to win, but obviously I don't think either team will be showing the other a whole lot.
  21. As stated earlier, the game went into OT. Conner was a litte short-handed with Ruholt still out with an ankle injury, and Michael Scott also rolled his ankle in the 1 qtr and did not return. Big game out of Jacob Gilbreath for Conner. Rebounded very well. Adam Yeager had 4-3 pt field goals and Kyler Padgett chipped in 3-3pt field goals as well. I can't recall Conner making one substitution in the 2nd half and all of OT. Game went back and forth for 4 qtrs. Conner pulled away in OT and won by 11. Sorry I don't have alot of the details for Boone, other than the score.
  22. Ha! That is Blaise. Good kid with the golden locks, and a very nice sophomore player. Not sure if he's talented enough to hit one in the gap on an intentional walk pitch!
  23. I'd say Austin Price gets the nod at 2b.
  24. In what way? Because he looks like him? Or, because he rides a motorcycle and hogs all the fly balls!!??
