Hellbird Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) Great game to watch, just about lost my voice lol. Conner started off on their game and Cooper couldn't buy a bucket. Everyone one of Cooper's starters were ice cold from the field except Lou who had a couple baskets in the first half. McNeil struggled and started off 1-4 from the charity stripe. Conner built a decent lead early until Cooper's savior came into the game. Spencer Holland had the game of his life tonight, scored 7 of the Jag's first 9 I believe and buried a 3 late in the 4th to keep Cooper within 3 and then AJ Collins hit a crucial 3 with 8 secs left in Regulation to send the game to Overtime. Cooper never led in the game until OT. Spencer Holland continued in the 2 OT's to lead Cooper to victory, I don't know his totals for the night but it had to be close to be somewhere in the 20's or maybe even 30 for the night. Conner was able to to go inside and was much better on the boards through most of the game. IT did get a little chippy at times, but that is expected during a hard fought game. Conner was in cruise control through most of the game, had a double digit lead in the 4th but Cooper's defense finally decided to show up and slowed down Conner enough to chip away at the lead until finally tying the score at the end of regulation. Cooper had a chance to go up 3 at the end of 1st OT when Holland hit the first of 2 free throws but missed his seecond to only give the Jags a 2 pt lead with a couple seconds left, Conner went down and tied the game with 4 seconds left when Aaron Morgan took the inbound and just about went coast to coast for the win but missed on his shot to send it to 2nd OT. Cooper came out in the 2nd and built a 6 pt lead early and never relinquished. Great game between 2 schools that continue to add fuel to the rivalry fire in all the high school sports. Congrats Cooper and Conner you all should be proud of the way you played tonight. Edited February 21, 2013 by Hellbird
Hellbird Posted February 21, 2013 Author Posted February 21, 2013 Cooper wins 72 - 68. Thanks I couldn't remember the score and was waiting for someone to post it on here but no one ever did so I thought I'd make a thread about one of the great games tonight. Could a Mod edit the thread title to reflect the score please?
Jester313 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 great game. very physical. As Hellbird said got a bit chippy at the end. Cooper's shooting was probably the worst I've seen this year. Cooper was down by 11 with about 3 mins to play in the 4th but was able to pull it out. To me the difference was Cooper's depth and their Coach. Sully just seemed to know what strings to pull and when. Congrats to Conner, they played their hearts out and should have won this game. On a side note the refs did a very goo job of not letting the game get to out of control and seemed to be pretty consistent.
Jester313 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Big win for the Jags tonight. Let's hope they wake up by Friday and start playing like their fans are used to. Go Jags
Jester313 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Holland had 27. Great save for the EX hockey player

This game could of gotten away from Cooper at anytime, especially in the 4th but he stayed cool and calm and coached his heart out down the stretch and his players responded. I was so happy to see Spencer Holland have the game he had, who knew a hockey player (one of the best in the area btw) could play so good on the hardwood. He hadd the game of his life and is the #1 reason Cooper got the W. He kept them in the game whenever it seemed it was about to get away from them. Great shooting and who on here isn't surprised AJ hits such a clutch 3 at the end of regulation. those shots are in AJ's blood it seems.
madman Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Sullivan is a very good coach and his teams are always prepared. Congrats on the win.
JustADad Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Congrats to the Jags. Conner played a great game and should have won. Cooper boys woke up just in the nick of time to somehow pull this out. They need to wake up and be ready to play from the start. I will be interested in seeing how they come out Friday night.
hja1224 Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 What a game. Cooper seemed to play "not to lose" for the first 3 quarters and seemed very tight. Conner, to their credit, came out lose and played hard. Cooper had no business winning this game. Conner was up around 13-14 in the 4th. For the life of me, I can't figure out a coach who has that type of lead in the 4th would not take one or two of his possesion's and not even take a shot, but continue to run clock and move the ball until they are either fouled or have a turnover. Instead, Barker shoots an air ball three, and cooper comes down and hits a quick bucket. To Barker's credit, he nailed what seemed to be 11 or 12 FT's in a row. Holland saved Cooper tonight. Huge shot by Collins and some clutch FT's of his own. McNeil seemed tight but did make a huge three late to give Cooper the lead. Survive and advance!!
