  1. I couldn't disagree more with you, especially on point #4, as I was literally 10 feet from the play. Guess we will chalk this up to if you were watching the game(s) with either a Dixie or a Conner hat on. And not to drudge up past history, but the ball thrown in the dugout last year was NO way an empty dugout. I was sitting on the 3rd base line and saw the ball 2 hop hard in the dugout, bounce around, and watch 5-6 Dixie players jump up and get out of the way. Believe me, I am all for intensity and sticking up for your team but again, right wrong or indifferent, you just can't do that in baseball.
  2. Erroneous on all accounts. I personally saw him ejected twice. Perhaps it wasn't reported to KHSAA by the umpire but he was ejected. On the throw it may have hopped but it was thrown hard and it was not an empty dugout. It scattered Dixie players. Right way and a wrong way to argue calls. Baseball is a differerent animal than football or baseball. I agree he did have a beef tonight on the hit batter ruling, but still.....to yell to the Conner player and ask him if he got hit was, well to steal your term, was bush league. And Conner attempted to steal one base on an 0-2 pitch in the bottom on the 5th up 17-5. Batter struck out so no stolen base was recorded. I've seen alot of freshman games be blown with a 10+ run lead. IMO you keep playing with that much game left especially against a team you have some history with as I've stated in the examples above. Lets not forget the Conner catcher received a broken thumb in a earlier game this year vs Dixie with a cleats high slide into home so perhaps that had something to do with Conner wanting to win convincingly.
  3. Conner scores 3 in the 1st inning and that's enough for the win. Austin Price gets the start and goes 6 strong innings. Dustin Hermann pitches the 7th and gets the save for Conner. Fogle still remains on the sidelines for the Cougars. Scott left several men on base and just couldn't get a hit with RISP. Congrats to Jeffrey Schneider who got his first varsity hit today for Conner. Jared Williams and Blaise Ostertag contributed with a 2B apiece for the Cougars. Good to see Ray Everett back on the mound for Scott.
  4. Conner drills Dixie 17-7. Big night for Max Simms who went 4-4 with a HR and 6 RBIs for Conner. Conner advances to the semifinals and will face Ryle on Tuesday at 5 pm at Dixie. Maybe it is a coincidence, but I have seen Dixie freshman play 4 times the past 2 seasons. In those games I have seen their coach pull their team off the field and forfeit, throw a ball (hard) into his own dugout in disgust, be ejected twice, argue repeatedly over calls, and now tonight scream across the field at the Conner staff after the game for "running" the score up. I don't know him from Adam but the Dixie coach seems to cross the line on occasion.
  5. Drew went to the Conner baseball game yesterday in Lexington at Tates Creek HS. In the 3rd inning the PA announcer recognized him and the locals went nuts. Pretty cool to see the excitement of others outside of Hebron anticipating his arrival at UK!
  6. Not a whole lot to talk about from the Conner camp. Brady Smiley gets the start and the loss for Conner. Blake Hart had the only hit for the Cougars. Conner played without Fogle (hamstring) and their first game without Maines who has been officially dismissed from the team by Coach Arlo. Drew Barker attended the game and received a standing "O" from the locals as the PA announcer recognized him.
  7. Stated the initial plan is to redshirt, however, he is going down there with a mentality to compete right away. Very, very happy for and proud of Drew. Neat day for everyone in Hebron!
  8. Blake Maines was officially dismissed from the team this afternoon by Coach Arlo.
  9. It was a tough decision for Coach Hicks to cut Maines his junior year because he IS very talented. I think the decision to cut him again his senior year was much easier because astonishingly enough his attitude did not change and in fact, got worse and was on full display at tryouts. It appears that is now the situation in baseball as well. At some point, time to cut bait. Feel for Arlo because I know he has a big heart and wants to help him, but the way Blake has shown him up all year would make one think that perhaps he's had enough. The benchings clearly haven't modified any behavior.
  10. Very, very happy for Drew and his opportunity. This answers the question "Will he play hoops this year?" He will be missed on the hardwood for sure.
  11. The buzz up at the high school today is that Drew will be picking UK, but honestly no one knows for sure. Exciting day for Drew and family and also the entire Conner community!
  12. Conner did not bring any players "down" and stuck with the kids that have played all year.
  13. There are not alot of HS kids I would stop what I was doing to sit down and enjoy watching them hit. Blake Tieberi is one. Incidentally, Conner is on a 4 game winning streak.
  14. Conner pitching continues to be the story. Brady Smiley goes 5 strong shutout winnings to get the win. Brady Padgett seals the win with 2 shutout innings. Blake Hart hit a solo HR. No Fogle (hamstring) or Maines (suspension) for Conner. Blake Tibieri goes 3-4. Sweeeeeeet swing.
  15. Yes, Maines was "restricted" to the dugout during the SK game for dropping an F bomb. Coach Arlo is enforcing a 2 game penalty. By my count, he has now been ejected 3 times and benched by Arlo 4 more for boisterous activity.
  16. Dustin Hermann goes the distance and gets the win for Conner. Cameron Ross with a couple hits and 2 RBIs. Jared Williams goes deep for Conner. Fogle led off the game with a triple but came up a little lame at 3rd and was removed from the game. Apparently, the hamstring is still an issue. Conner pitching continues to impress. Have now had 4 straight complete games by their starting pitchers and have won 3 straight.
  17. Dustin Hermann gets the win with 6 strong innings pitched. Brady Padgett pitches the final inning to seal the win. Scoreless game until the bottom of the 5th when Fogle hits an RBI triple and scores on a missed cut-off from the outfield. Fogle had 3 hits on the day and 3 stolen bases. Conner pitching has been stellar the past 2 games allowing just 3 runs in 16 innings.
  18. Dustin Hermann pitches 6 strong innings for Conner and gets the win. Brady Padgett pitches the 7th to seal the game for Conner. Fogle with 3 hits and 3 stolen bases on the day. Game was scoreless until the bottom of 5th when Fogle hit a RBI triple and then scored on a missed cut from the outfield. Conner pitching has allowed just 2 runs the past 16 innings.
  19. Confirmed yesterday with a few Conner players that it was not a pitch out on the "botched" squeeze play.
  20. I disagree 100% trying to do it with 2 outs. All Conner has to do is field the ball and throw it to first for the 3rd out. Run does not count unless the batter reaches base safely. I still like the call with 1 out, but my take on the squeeze, especially in a situation like this, is to take until you get a strike, then lay it down the next pitch. Of course, you have to consider who the hitter is, too.
  21. Curious what some of the Cooper fans thought about this squeeze call? Personally, I liked it. All you have to do is get the bunt down, that's not on the coach. Are you sure Conner threw a pitch out? From my angle it just looked like an outside pitch that got away a bit from Maines.
  22. I agree. I just wanted to clarify as I think a few comments misunderstood and thought the actual PA system was being used. I have not heard of any suspensions for the PA announcer/parent that was ejected.
