Beechwood came out in the first quarter and were able to get into their offense and executed their way to an 18-8 lead after one. Holy Cross wasn't able to match the intensity "early on" getting down as many as 16 at 26-10. To their credit they battled back and late in the 3rd quarter and would eventually get the lead down to 3 at 38-35 and had two possessions to get closer but were not able to get a basket. After that 18-10 first quarter, Holy Cross played pretty well even though the scoring was down. Holy Cross would pick up their defensive intensity and started trapping more and not letting the Tigers get into their offense as easily. They would ultimately create 18 Beechwood turnovers in the game with most of them after the first quarter. These two teams (especially the starters on both teams) have played each other a lot of the last 3 years. They know each other well. A game like this would rarely get into the 60s and 70s in my opinion. They will play again in the 35th district seed game at Holy Cross on February 7th. Hollywood23 is correct - EJ was being subbed in and out the last 3+ minutes because he had 4 fouls. I think coach was playing offense/defense to keep him on the floor on the offensive end. That being said, I agree he spends a lot of time on the perimeter. I saw Blaackar about 4-5 times last year and thought he was really good. I was even more impressed with him last night. Kid can really play. Lloyd tends to struggle a bit when they go to their bench they aren't very deep at all. On the other side, Sully just keeps his team grinding. I thought when Lloyd went up 9 in the 3rd quarter they might start to pull away but they didn't. Give Cooper a lot of credit on the road. Andy Johnson is so smooth. Nice crowd!

Holy Cross (if they win) and Bethlehem would be the top 2 ranked teams in the All "A" State Tournament if we went by the Massey rankings playing in round one. Double Deuce you might know that better than me but I think that's right. Also the winner would more than likely get Owensboro Catholic in round 2 who is also a Top 20 in the state team and very good. The upper part of that bracket is loaded. I think Holy Cross would match up ok vs Bethlehem. If it happens would be a great game for sure. You could make an argument that Bethlehem drew the bad straw too. Lol Correct on NCC or Holy Cross winning the 9th region All A every year since 2001. Holy Cross has won the last 3 and 7 of the last 10 including the last two State Championships.

I'll get to see Notre Dame up close on Tuesday when they play Holy Cross in Latonia. Schedule has gotten a little tougher for the Pandas. I'm looking forward to the game on Tuesday. Should be a good one between two really good teams!

Saw Austin Davie up close when Campbell Co. played Holy Cross last week. I agree he is going to be a special player. Has size and can finish. Tremendous upside! The Camels have 4 strong seniors who are in the starting lineup with him this year so after they graduate it will be interesting to see how they try to build around him the next 3 years.
