Beechwood 50 Covington Holy Cross 41 (9th Region All "A" Classic)

Featured Replies

Really good matchup tonight between Holy Cross (10-3) and Beechwood (8-5) in the Boys All "A" Classic at 6:00 pm at Dayton High School. The Indians will be playing without Senior William McElheney. The winner will get the winner of NCC/Heritage on Friday night at 7:45 pm.

If you can't make it to the game in person tonight, Holy Cross Radio will be there to cover the game live from Dayton starting at 5:45 pm.

Indians (10-4) are at Bracken County's MLK Classic Monday to play Cincinnati College Prep Academy.

I know William was out, and he is certainly a HUGE piece around the basket and distributing the basketball to their shooters, but I'm shocked (mildly) by the result, and more so by Holy Cross being held to 41 points.

Just looked. Massey predicted a 58-55 CHC win on a neutral court. After the close shave CCH had at The Den, I thought a Beechwood win tonight was possible. Agree the point total was low, and only caught the tail end of the game. For sure, Nutsy will give us a good breakdown.

? Beechwood is scheduled to play Madison Southern in Berea's tourney Saturday at 2:00. The All 'A' final is set for 7:00 that night, so if they make it that far . . .

Nice "problem" to have. Congrats on the win tonight!

Beechwood came out in the first quarter and were able to get into their offense and executed their way to an 18-8 lead after one. Holy Cross wasn't able to match the intensity "early on" getting down as many as 16 at 26-10. To their credit they battled back and late in the 3rd quarter and would eventually get the lead down to 3 at 38-35 and had two possessions to get closer but were not able to get a basket.

After that 18-10 first quarter, Holy Cross played pretty well even though the scoring was down. Holy Cross would pick up their defensive intensity and started trapping more and not letting the Tigers get into their offense as easily. They would ultimately create 18 Beechwood turnovers in the game with most of them after the first quarter.

These two teams (especially the starters on both teams) have played each other a lot of the last 3 years. They know each other well. A game like this would rarely get into the 60s and 70s in my opinion. They will play again in the 35th district seed game at Holy Cross on February 7th.

Beechwood starters played all but 11 minutes in the game and I'm pretty sure they didn't sub the entire 2nd half. Holy Cross playing with Senior William McElheney (13 ppg and 9 rpg). Good luck to Beechwood on Friday!

Did Rominger not play either?  Hard to believe he was held scoreless!

Played but was held scoreless. Had a rare bad game. Nate is a really good player.
