Final from Latonia. Holy Cross led 30-20 with about 2 1/2 minutes left in the 2nd quarter then Dixie went on a 8-0 run to end the half only down 30-28. Holy Cross would go back out to an 8-point lead in the 3rd quarter before Dixie battled back again and would eventually take a lead midway through the 4th quarter. The Indians would have a few chances down 3 late to tie but were unable to convert then had to foul. Indians were led by Junior Brady Gabbard with a game-high 23 points. Senior William McElheney had 16 points and Sophomore Max Hunt with a solid game off the bench with 11 points. The Colonels were led by Senior Griffen Derry (really nice player) with 18 points. Junior Max Rubemeyer and Sophomore Hunter Seng added 14 each. * Holy Cross played without two starters - Juniors Nate Rominger (13 pts/9 rebs) and Luke Arlinghaus (13 pts) who played the first 4 minutes of the game then did return. Holy Cross improves to 23-4 with a big win at home over Frederick Douglass. The Broncos had won 13 of their last 14 games. Two teams that play a similar style and points were hard to come by all night. Senior Aumani Nelson led the way with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Great game tonight in Latonia between two evenly matched teams in my opinion. They will play again in the 35th district in a few weeks at Beechwood. Senior Jake Sullivan (5/9 from 3) led all scorers with 24 points for the Tigers. Holy Cross was led by Junior Luke Arlinghaus with 19 points (4/4 from 3). Congrats to Notre Dame they deserved to win this game. Overall it was a very poor shooting game for both teams as the stats below will show. These two teams will play again in a few weeks when it actually matters. Huge, huge congratulations to the people predicting a Notre Dame win. Proud of you guys! I'm not worried in the least about Coach Arlinghaus. He is just fine the way he coaches and substitutes. He has won two All "A" State Championships and almost a third in a short period of time. He knows how to coach. Lol. Most coaches if you really watch the games and not just read box scores, will play 7 maybe 8 players in big games and especially come tournament time. If you play 9, 10 or even 11 players come tournament time you are in the minority. This game was all about the 2nd quarter, where the Pandas outscored the Indians 16-3. The other 3 quarters were played even. Holy Cross was off balance in the 2nd quarter and Notre Dame had a lot to do with that. HC had too many turnovers during the pivotal quarter and ND was able to take a 13-point halftime lead which they would never led go. I think Holy Cross got to within 7 or 8 in the 4th quarter but were never able to get any closer. Both benches wanted every call and the officials did the best they could considering the aggressive style by both teams. I believe the Notre Dame bench got a warning in the 2nd half due to complaining to officials. Senior Sophia Gibson was the difference in the game and dominated with 25 points all on layups or stick backs at the rim. Final from Walton Verona High School. Fun game to call on Holy Cross Radio as the Indians pick up a nice win on the road. Really fun atmosphere and the pace was up and down all night long. First time this year seeing Aaron Gutman and I came away very impressed. The kid can handle the ball, shoot from long distance and obviously finish at the rim. He was a tough guard tonight. On the Holy Cross side, they were led by Junior Brady Gabbard with 23 points including five 3-pointers. Final from Dixie. Holy Cross trailed most of the game but rallied in the 4th quarter. Had two chances at the rim at the end of regulation to win it but shots didn’t fall. Aumani Nelson fouled out late in the 4th quarter. The Indians had a shot at buzzer in overtime that didn’t go. Really good game between two of the best teams in the 9th. This result isn't a shock to me. Maybe the final margin being 18 is but Ryle is a really, really good team!

DD - great analysis on your write up this week as always. I'll disagree slightly at the top this week. Holy Cross drops one game, a tight one to Bethlehem in the All "A" and drops from #1 to #4 is interesting but it's your poll. Should never drop 3 spots for losing a close game (ending a 15-game winning streak I might add) against a top 10 in the state team. You are correct though the next week of games should tell us a lot with these top teams as many play each other. I could see 5 teams with a chance to win the region in the 9th this year. As of today here would be my top 5 based on games played so far. This could change quite a bit next week depending on the results of some big matchups this week. 1. Holy Cross 2. Simon Kenton 3. Give Lloyd all the credit. They came out and took it to my Indians from the start. They have a really nice team. The KHSAA roster for Lloyd did indeed have me scrambling Runcible Owl. Clearly I know the top 4-5 (starters) but the subs that came in were not the #s on the roster. I did the best I could. Lol Holy Cross will play at Newport on Saturday at 2:30 pm as an added game. No radio.

This is a rescheduled game from the snow from a few weeks ago. Holy Cross (10-4) will travel to Erlanger to take on Lloyd (11-6). Lloyd has lost 3 in a row and coming off a disappointing loss at Simon Kenton. Holy Cross has been off since it's disappointing loss to Beechwood a week ago in the All A" Classic. Agree with most of this. Turnovers in my opinion is the biggest key even over the three %. Holy Cross doesn't need to shoot lights our from three to win in my opinion. They are creating nearly 30 turnovers a game on the season. If Bethlehem is anywhere close to that # tomorrow I love their chances. All that being said, I look for this to come down to the last few minutes and who can execute down the stretch. I'd be shocked if either blew the other out. Holy Cross offense is more balanced, but you are correct the Banshees will have the best player on the court. Should be a fun one and again it's a shame it's the opening round.

Holy Cross Radio will be there next week for that first round matchup in Owensboro. Both regions could make a serious argument that they each got a terrible draw. I agree with them. Lol....All that being said this will be a great matchup of two teams in the Top 10-12 of the state. They will be the two highest ranked teams in the All "A" State Tournament playing in the first round.
