  1. Holy Cross wins their 5th game in a row and followed up the big win over Newport on Saturday with a sound victory over a good Campbell Co team. After the Camels jumped out to a 9-2 lead, the Indians went on a 18-4 run to give them a 20-13 lead. They would lead by 11 at half and stretch the lead out to 26 points at 76-50 early in the 4th quarter. Senior Jacob Meyer led all scorers with 37 points (17/23 from the field) and 11 rebounds. Senior Javier Ward was fantastic tonight with 29 points (7/12 from 3 and 11/18 overall). Senior Sam Gibson had 13 points and 9 rebounds and Senior Matt Dreas had a career-high 14 assists. The Camels were led by Senior Aydan Hamilton with 29 points and 7 rebounds. Really fun player to watch. Jaidan Combs added 16 points off the bench. CC 13 21 19 22 - 75 HC 18 27 26 19 - 90 Campbell Co (12-8) - Hamilton 29, Combs 16, Gross 11, Jackson 6, Sorgenfrei 6, Weinel 5, Smith 2. Holy Cross (12-5) - Meyer 37, Ward 29, Gibson 13, Smith 4, McElheney 3, Ambrocio 2, Reinersman 2. Free Throws- CC 7/10 HC 3/6 Rebounds- CC 32 HC 35 Assists- CC 15 HC 25 * Holy Cross will travel down to the Fieldhouse on Friday night to take on the Holmes Bulldogs.
  2. Big 35th district seeding game on Thursday night when Notre Dame (11-4) travels to Latonia to take on Holy Cross (15-5) at 7:30 pm. The Indians are fresh off winning the 9th region All "A" Tournament. Who you got in this one and why? If you can't make the game in person you can listen live on Holy Cross Radio. http://vcloud.blueframetech.com/holycross/widget?I'd=145
  3. Highlands playing some really good basketball right now.
  4. Your question about the lack of free throws we shoot (mainly Meyer & Ward) who get to the rim a lot is a valid question. I try to be unbiased but it’s been like this the last 2 years. I don’t want to get in any trouble so I will take the high road.
  5. Could not agree more with this comment about Marquez Miller. I said it on the air numerous times last night on Holy Cross Radio, that the Freshman and young guys are tremendous but Miller is a beast and a senior who has been through tough games. Love the way that kid plays.
  6. When Sam Gibson picked up his 5th foul with still 3-4 minutes left I thought that was a big key to the Newport comeback late. I'm pretty sure it was an 8 or 10 point game when he fouled out and that opened up the paint for Newport and when they missed a shot were able to get the offensive rebounds and stick backs to get back in it.
  7. Will McElheney was hurt to begin the season and hasn't started any games for Holy Cross. You might be thinking about Carson Reinersman who started a few games early when we were missing Matt Dreas for a few games and Javier Ward who missed a game. McElheney is just starting to get back to playing from his injury and has been playing "mainly" JV.
  8. The bad part is that this one play in the final second of the half is taking away from the high-level of championship game that BOTH teams put on display. Jacob Meyer was huge with 40 points. Marquez Miller with 28 was tremendous. Both teams will be a tough out come district and regional tournament time.
  9. So no technical foul on Kinney for kicking #30? Not sure how you miss that. Refs did a good job giving the double technical in my opinion but again it depends on which side of this game you were on. And I mentioned above BOTH players were at fault. None of this determined the outcome of the game. Refs trying to determine what happened in real time. They don't have benefit of video and pausing a video to determine anything. HC played good, Newport came back and played good to make it a game. HC won the game.
  10. People will view that last play before half differently depending on which side you were rooting for. It did not determine the game. I “thought” they had a foul initially on Kinney on the rebound as HC kid went to the ground. Kinney kicked the player then some pushing took place by both teams as they tried to separate them. Refs got together and gave a double technical. Both kids were probably in the wrong. Newport kids then came off the bench and onto the floor. Not one HC kid did. The refs tried to sort it out as best they could. There was no reason for any free throws because it was called a double technical. it was a hard fought game between two really good teams. Give both teams credit for putting on a great finals for the sellout crowd.
  11. Final from Beechwood. Holy Cross advances to their second straight All "A" State Tournament. The Indians jumped out to a 24-9 first quarter lead and never trailed in the game. Give Newport a ton of credit they made 3 runs at Holy Cross from that first quarter on and HC was able to fend them off each time. Newport tied the game at 72-72 (first tie of the game) with about 16 seconds left. After a timeout, Senior Jacob Meyer would drive to the right of the lane near the baseline and get up a shot with 3 Newport defenders on him and would put in the winning basket with 5.6 seconds left. Newport got off a desperation corner 3 at the buzzer but it was no good. Meyer would finish with a game-high 40 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Holy Cross. Javier Ward added 18. Newport was led by Senior Marquez Miller with 28 points. Freshman Tay Kinney had 16 points and 6 assists. James Turner had 12 and Jabari Covington added 10. Holy Cross will advance to the state tournament to take on Danville out of the 12th Region on Thursday, January 26th at EKU at 5:00 pm. Holy Cross 24 13 20 17 - 74 Newport 9 21 17 25 - 72 Holy Cross (11-5) - Meyer 40, Ward 18, Smith 6, Ambrocio 5, Dreas 3, Gibson 2. Newport (14-4) - Miller 28, Kinney 17, Turner 12, Covington 10, Silverton 5.
  12. 9th region All "A" Championship is on the line tonight as the Holy Cross Indians look to go back-to-back and make a return to EKU in a few weeks. The Newport Wildcats are young and talented and come into this game on quite a roll. Should be a great game and atmosphere tonight at 7:00 pm at Beechwood. If you can't make the game in person you can catch the game live on Holy Cross Radio starting at 6:45 pm. http://vcloud.blueframetech.com/holycross/widget?I'd=145
  13. I would have said yes. They were ranked #5 in the state this week. Huge upset for sure!
  14. Semi final matchups on Friday night at Beechwood - 6:00 pm - St. Henry (6-8) vs Newport (13-3) - Clearing gym 8:00 pm - Holy Cross (9-5) vs Ludlow (11-5) * Finals set for 7:00 pm on Saturday
  15. Wait I thought Cov Cath was going to……never mind. Congrats to Conner & Coach Otte. Their starting 5 are really good and can shoot.
  16. Tremendous young lady who is always smiling. And I agree can't wait to see what she can do at Washington.
  17. Last night in a loss to Christian Academy-Louisville (68-60), Holy Cross Junior forward Julia Hunt went over 1,000 career rebounds. She went over 1,000 career points late last year and will be close to 500 career rebounds by the end of this season. I don't recall many players on the girls or boys side in recent years to compile 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 500 blocks. I'm sure it has happened but has to be kind of rare. She still has her senior left to play so who knows how much she can add to these career totals. Kudos to a tremendous player and even better young lady!
  18. Congratulations to Covington Holy Cross Junior forward Julia Hunt. She went over 1,000 career rebounds in this one. She has already gone over 1,000 career points late last year and will be close to 500 blocks by the end of this year. She still has a year left so who knows how much she can add to these totals. I don't recall a lot of 1,000/1,000/500 players recently. Kudos to her !
  19. Poll looks accurate to me at this point in the season....Great job But the bigger question is does "Double Deuce" know "Baseball Nut"? 🙂
