There are some similarities between the two. However, I don't think that that example matches the exclusivity of the current situation. If Smith and Wesson knowingly sold a gun to a known terrorist, then yes I could see them being charged with aiding a terrorist.

First, I find it somewhat hard to believe that the government doesn't have the ability to hack the phone on their own. I think they are asking for permission from google as a courtesy gesture, but I think if it came down to it the government would be capable of doing it on their own. If independent hackers can hack into celebrities phones, there is no reason to believe that our government wouldn't be able to do it as well. Secondly, If the government does hack the phone on their own, and finds information of future attacks, communications between terrorist groups, or other information that could have put the safety of our citizens in jeopardy, could Apple be held liable, and be charged with treason? Would covering up terrorist intelligence be considered aiding a terrorist organization? Personally, and I have no hard evidence to suggest this is true, but I would not be surprised if this was all being done as a publicity stunt. It would not surprise me if Apple and the Feds are operating together behind closed doors. Apple doesn't want to make it seem as if they are slaves to the federal government, and will turn over personal information at the drop of a hat. The government doesn't want to make it seem as if they are infringing upon civil liberties and forcing a private company to give up sensitive information. I am not saying this is the case, but there are definitely reasons why Apple and the Feds are having this "dispute" over the issue.

Also, if the goal is to look out for the children, as a student body and not just an athletic program, then wouldn't it be more practical to minimize athletic expenses so that the school district can put more money into the school district as a whole?

My point is, you cant just dismiss transportation costs when dividing up the divisions and classes. It would be ideal if money wasn't an issue, but it is. If you are in a division where 3 of the 4 teams are an hour away, that is going to cost significantly more money than if a school was 10 or 15 minutes away. Especially in school districts where money is tight, that money has to come from somewhere. if you are fortunate enough to have a strong booster program, its a null issue. However, that isn't always the case and transportation costs have to come from school funds. This means that you are taking money away from students who don't play sports, to pay for students who do play sports. Maybe I am wrong, but I have a hard time seeing this going over well.

But are those transportation costs necessary, when there are teams closer to you requiring less transportation money, and that extra transportation money could therefore be utilized elsewhere. I think that many in the program/ school district would say no.

So are you going to foot the bill for transportation? Will the KHSAA? How to do propose to nullify transportation costs, because that is the obvious obstacle before the logistical argument can be dismissed.

Seems like a pretty cool idea. It also seems like something that they are going to put a $1500-2000 price tag on and limit the availability.

As far as why I responded to this? I know I'm disappointed in myself for responding to dumb topics, i just can't help it sometimes. Boredom can be a killer sometimes. Where would they practice at the Fort? I don't know maybe one of the several fields there. Heck, maybe they would have gotten lucky and the soccer team would let them use that pretty new turf field they just got. Ya know, it would kinda be like the soccer team repaying the football team for all the times soccer was on the football field. But, in the event that the soccer team was on the turf, there are plenty of other open fields to have a practice. There is also a weight room (kinda) there, as well as multiple basketball courts for bad weather days. Come on, I know you have been to the Fort before. You have to acknowledge that there is space up there for a football practice.

This is a pretty dumb discussion, but yes they have practiced at other facilities in the past. They would typically take place at the Fort.

The fairweather fan accusation is laughable. I just acknowledge reality when it's staring me in my face. Highlands has been a part of my life since before I could talk, so your attempt to suggest that I am a fair weather fan is unfounded and moronic. I watched numerous games this year, and have talked to numerous "connections" and the resounded theme was the lack of "jimmy and joes." I realize that you are close to the situation, and that it's hard to fathom, but talent comes in waves and in some years there is more talent in the class than others. Unfortunately, this year the talent pool was shallow. There were some good players on the team, yes, but not enough. The most troubling part is how you refuse to acknowledge this. The way in which you have deflected this year's problems onto the coaching staff is weak. It's the whole, "well it's not my fault it's someone else's fault" that is frustrating.

Is the elephant in the room you are referring to the fact this this team was just not as good as Highlands teams in the past? You can say what you want about the coaching staff, but it was remained relatively consistent for the past 5-6 years, if not longer. Its not like this is Weinrich's first year at Highlands, and most of the other coaches on the staff have been there for several years. The coaches can only do so much, at some point it is up to the players to make plays.

I'm not sure how the comments regarding the tackling today are "a strong indictment of Highlands defense", or that the comments are anything more than a simple observation. As for them being homers: 1) those are the most unbiased homers I have ever heard, and 2) why shouldn't they be homers? They are Highlands alum, running a broadcast intended for highlands followers, so is it really all that surprising that they may lean slightly towards favoring Highlands in their broadcast? I think this thread was a stretch.

I wasn't too sure if I was initially a fan of the 3 pm kickoff, but it is kinda cool that this is the main event currently.

Maybe its just because I was raised on it, but at the high school level I think the man blocking scheme (utilizes speed/quickness) is far superior to the zone blocking scheme (big/strength). Obviously, the scheme you run relies on your personnel, but I would take a man blocking scheme with the right personnel over a zone blocking scheme with the right personal any day.

At the high school level, I'll take quickness every single time, and beat size every time.

I wont comment on which one was the best, but I will say that there was some pretty good football played at Highlands during the late 90's and early 00's. From the Jared to Derek connection, to watching Hamblen make entire defenses look like they were stuck in mud, to watching Gino absolutely dismantle a Trinity defensive back on the Trinity sideline, it would be hard to argue against those years being some of the best during Highlands storied past.
