As far as having a freshman playing up and practicing with JV/Varsity, I don't think i am a huge fan of it. I think the camaraderie built within the freshmen class is something that is pretty understated. Freshmen year is the only year in which you play solely with kids your age, and that enables a bond between those in each specific class to be built. I get that having a freshman practicing with JV puts them against better competition, but you lose out on sharing those long hot summer days with those in your own class. Now, if a freshmen practices with his freshmen team, and is then brought up on Saturdays to get a few extra game time reps in with the JV, I think that could be beneficial.

Not a rivalry, but it is still an essential game to win to lock up home field advantage for the second round matchup. I just can't call it a rivalry when Cov Cath has gone almost a full decade without beating Highlands. Even though it is not a rivalry, it is still an essential win.

Maybe if your kid wanted to see the field, you should have helped him get better instead of letting him quit. Quite the example you're setting. When the going gets tough, just quit and sulk about how the odds were always stacked against you and you never had a chance and it was always someone else's fault.

So do you think its possible that coaches could talk to each other and spread information? Say for example, Ryle coaches talking to cooper coaches at a coaches clinic. You don't think they could possibly talk about the talent level of Highlands being down? Having played Highlands the past few year, Ryle is very aware of the talent throughout the Highlands program. Don't you think this is a more reasonable answer, than to assume that random teams just scouted Highlands games?

I think it says more about your program, that you value beating a team who is having a historically bad season so much. But hey, if beating a team that is currently 1-4, is the cornerstone of your programs existence, then so be it.

Apparently you think the answer to any question about Highlands has something do with Cooper. The blunt reality is, that a school with no tradition, no state championships, no signature wins could not be any more irrelevant than it currently is. If you want to hang your hat on district championships or whatever, that's great. But I don't see a time, ever, where Cooper even comes close to smelling the level of program Highlands is. if you want to beat your chest in every thread for the rest of the season about beating Highlands during a historically bad season, you have every right to. But don't get it twisted, Cooper isn't nor will they ever be, anything close to what Highlands is.

Sportsmanship from a program experiencing recent success after a history of mediocrity? That's like handing a 21 year old 10 million dollars and expecting them to be responsible with it.

This thread is clearly asking a hypothetical question, so I'm not sure why some of you are taking this so seriously and getting worked up. I think an interesting choice would be Dale. I would pay to watch a Hard-Knocks season with Dale managing all the different egos of a pro team. Knowing him the way I do, I'm fairly confident that it would make great television, but would likely result in some of the "big time" players having their feelings hurt. As far as game planning, scheming and putting your players in the best position to make plays, I think Dale could do it. I just think his downfall would be thos "hot shot" players who put their personal egos before the team, and Dale not wanting to cater to them.

Im not going to go back and provide you with every instance in which they looked soft Friday night. The way in which they tackled, an unwillingness to come up and put a hat on someone when it needed to be done, is what makes me believe they are soft. I noticed this multiple times throughout the game Friday night. That is my unbiased opinion based on what I saw.

First of all, I never claimed to have all, or any answers. Just made an observation. Second, I said it was worst by a highlands team that I could remember. I stand by that statement. 2 Examples: on the on-side kick that Ryle returned all the way back to the 10 yard line. A HHS player ran up to the ball carrier and tried to arm tackle to returner around the shoulders around the 15 yrd line, and was thrown off the runner allowing the runner to gain about 5 more yards. Lower your shoulder and take out his legs. Simple. On the next play, the running back ran through a hole on the left side. Either our LB or Safety filled the hole. Instead of again lowering his should, and using fundamental tacking skills, he tried to arm tackle the runner around the shoulders. He was thrown off the runner and the runner went on to score a TD. Third, I know all to well about that offensive line you speak of. I also know that members of that offensive line were not happy to be labeled as one of the worst to come through Highlands. How did they respond? Oh, they went on to lead that team to a state championship? My point is they didnt sulk, and feel sorry for themselves when people told them they were bad. They got pretty mad about it and changed it. Maybe this current Highlands team has been coddled long enough. Maybe they need to be told that what they are doing isn't working.

Really? I saw the exact opposite. I couldn't believe how soft we looked. The refusal to lower the pads and make a hit by the defense is the most concerning thing I saw, and was the worst by a Highlands team for as long as I can remember. If they play that way against St X, they will get beat by 50 if not more.
