Highlands/Scott County Updates
Ahh I see that the rest of NKY has come out to take shots at the birds for having their first rough start in 10 years. I guess this is what it feels like to be a normal NKY team?

Highlands 27 Cooper 0 (Frosh)
ˆSo Highlands won because Cooper was bad? Not because Highlands is good? Hmm sounds familiar....

Ask Johnson Central how that has worked out in the past.

Highlands/McCracken Cty Updates
Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific and asked if it was being live video streamed in addition to the radio broadcast. Testy in here today, aren't we?

Christopher Columbus (FL) wins again
But, I guess if you don't have a team playing this weekend you have to fill your time somehow.

Christopher Columbus (FL) wins again
I don't understand why people who question why this was made a thread, and claim to not care, are commenting the most. If you don't care then don't respond to the thread. It seems like a pretty simple concept.

I think the mistake that most people make when figuring out how to platoon is focusing on the wrong group of players. You don't start platooning by taking you best, most athletic player and putting him on one side of the ball. You start with the O and D lines. If you can have fresh O and D lines in the fourth quarter, and you're playing a team that is playing linemen on both sides of the ball and are gassed in the fourth quarter, 9 times out of 10 you're going to win that game. Platooning also doesn't start in the summer, or even in the spring. It starts in January when conditioning does, by focusing on specific drills for specific position groups. For example, lets just imagine a hypothetical situation where you have 5 returning offensive linemen. Lets say 2 of those OL also started on defense the prior year. If you have 2 DL who were not starters the year before, but were pretty dang good, I would suggest take the returning starters and keep them on offense and begin training (in January when workouts start) the backups to assume a starting role. I am not sure if what I have said is very clear, or maybe if I am just echoing what everyone has already said, but I think that when people consider platooning they often look at the wrong players. It has to start with the O and D lines, and this is done by getting those second-tier players ready to compete and take over starting position in the off-season.

Also in the Manual game, as well as the Johnson Central game. A much more limited role, but a role nonetheless.

You're right, but even in 07 and 08 you still had multiple key players playing on both sides of the ball. Like you said, and I also said, HHS didn't become a strictly two-platoon team until 2009.

Now, if you had said that some years Highlands fans didn't think that they had the players to platoon, I would agree with you. But, that is not what your original comment said.

So we started platooning in 2009. Your original statement was that when HHS started platooning their fans didn't think they had the right players to platoon. So you think that, because we started platooning in 2009, HHS fans thought that in 2009 they didn't have the right players to platoon. Is this correct?

Do you even know when HHS became a strict two-platoon team? I doubt you will find many HHS fans that "confirm" your claim.

Anyone else disappointed in Highlands....tradition?
As far as taking the helmets off goes, it comes down to a health thing. Its common sense, especially when it is hot out, to take your helmet off to cool down fast when you are not out on the field. If we want to go back and rely on traditional health and safety standards, why aren't we suggesting the kids just take a few salt tablets for hydration? Because we have learned that their are more effective ways to hydrate. Same goes for cooling down by removing the helmet. Again, if you are viewing taking a helmet off on the sideline as an indication that Highlands is veering away from tradition, then I strongly suggest you reconsider what a tradition actually is.

Anyone else disappointed in Highlands....tradition?
The only tradition that the players and coaches care about is winning. Games aren't won by having matching socks or looking good. If you think that Highlands has lost its traditional sense, then I would strongly urge you to go back and 1) reevaluate your understanding or the word tradition, and 2) after you do that go and take a walk through the locker room where the traditions are made. I think you will find that the important building blocks left by teams of the past are still intact. While I do agree that somethings have changed that I do not generally care for, such as the showy player introductions, that's not enough for me to make such a broad statement that Highlands has lost its tradition. Heck, just look at their uniforms. They have been the same for decades. I question if you are truly as close to the program as you say you are, or were, if you think that Highlands has lost, or is losing, the tradition that has built the program.

Elder (OH) 56 Highlands 0 (JV)
The only reason the 5A title figuratively runs through BG is because HHS allowed it to. Don't forget who won the last 5A title before HHS left.

NKY/Cincy Hidden Gem Restaurants
As GT mentioned, it is essentially a tater-tot with filled with cheese. Unfortunately, the Dari Bar is only open during the summer months and is now closed until next May.

NKY/Cincy Hidden Gem Restaurants
I don't know if it has been mentioned, as there is zero chance I take the time to go back through this entire thread, but the Dari Bar in Silver Grove, KY has to be one of the best around. Nothing tops their munchers. Not the place to go if you're a health freak though.

Who is #1 in NKY: Simon Kenton or Highlands?
FWIW, I watched the game with a prominent member on BGP, and I know he felt the same way as I did. Nothing about the SK team, that night at least, indicated that they were nearly as dominant as they were made out to be.

Who is #1 in NKY: Simon Kenton or Highlands?
I watched the Campbell County game. I realize that SK walked away with that one at the end, but the first half was evenly matched, and if not for numerous costly turnover by the camels, I believe that game would have ended that way. I just never got the feeling that SK was ever a dominant team. No freak athletes, no dominant OL play. Nothing about them had a "wow" factor. As far as "good size"? No, I refuse to admit that they have good size. They have 1 or 2 players on defense (45) being one, who have good size, but that is not enough for me to generalize that this team has good size.

Who is #1 in NKY: Simon Kenton or Highlands?
Prior to seeing Simon Kenton play, I had a suspicion that UKfan was drastically overstating their dominance. After seeing them play, that suspicion was exceedingly proven to be true. Aside from maybe a hand full of players, they are small and undisciplined. I honestly think my freshman team had more players over 6'. I saw a team that had one "decent" receiver, a very average running back that was small and had average, to maybe slightly above average, speed and an offensive line that looked downright uncoordinated. If SK is #1 in NKY, I think that is more representative of the weak state of NKY football at the moment, however, unless you are completely insane there is no way you can justify SK being #1 in NKY.
