  1. You are correct, South should have made the free throws. Dye lost a contact at the begininng of the game and actually put in another persons contact to finish the game .She is a much better free throw shooter but she has to make sure she has an extra pair at all times. All in all it was a good competitive game. I agree that Whitfield had a great game and is a really good offensive and defensive player who has several big D1 schools looking at her.
  2. Jasmine Whitfield had game high 29 points and scored her 1000th point in loss to WV. Congrats Jasmine!!
  3. Worst refs I have ever seen. They actually let a WV girl take the ball out of bounds and bring it back in and shoot a three at the end. South girls were not defending because the ball was clearly out of bounds. if you think sour grapes look at the film. That ref was someone's uncle
  4. IMO, South always starts a little slow because they have so many players that play other sports{volleyball, soccer, cross country). Whitfield is the only starter that plays bball all year but all the girls are very athletic and come around by January. Dye was getting over an illness this game but the girls were able to get the win.
  5. T1: Male (8-7) - Watson 9, White 1, Owen 19, Messer 3, Spratt 6, Jones 7. T2: South Oldham (9-4) - Dye 4, Gamsky 6, Housley 6, Mullins 3, Whitfield 32, Wright 3. 3P: Watson 2, Owen 2, Messer 1, Mullins 1, Whitfield 3, Wright 1. South Oldham 54, Male 45: Jasmine Whitfield's career night led the host Dragons (9-4) past the Bulldogs (8-7). The junior point guard hit 10 of 17 field-goal attempts and scored 32 points - her most ever in a single game - and added nine rebounds, three steals and two assists. Andrea Owen had 19 points for Male. Go South!!!!
  6. I think it's great that the 8th region has 3 teams ranked. Go 8th Region!!!
  7. I will keep her in my prayers. She is the one player on Bardstown's team that you just say "wow" when you see her play. She is really good! I hope she will hear good news about her knee.
  8. South by 14. Oldham county is a high scoring team but I think the defense from South will prevent them from scoring a lot of points.
  9. Here is the boys and girls link from the Lexington Hereld. I don't think the CJ Lit. ratings for girls is out yet. http://www.kentucky.com/2011/01/03/1585625/high-school-basketball-rating.html#more
  10. South played good defense, especially Lissa Gambsky, but it was a very sloppy game. Lots of turnovers by both teams. Good job by South to get the win.
  11. South by double digits. Lady Dragons will want revenge for last seasons regional loss to Shelby County/Collins. Dye and Whitfield will win the rebounding war.
  12. Mary Dye had 9 and Jasmine Whitfield had 24 in the win over GRC for 3rd place. Dye and Whitfield were named to the all tournament team. Jefferstown remained undefeated to win 1st place in the tournament with a win over Mercer County. Asia Roan was named MVP from J-town.
  13. I expect big things out of Whitfield, Dye, Wright, and Housley, but I was most impressed with the freshman Sedoris. She was excellent on defense and played like she has been on varsity for years.
  14. T1: South Oldham (2-2) - Dye 14, Haysley 4, Housley 5, Houston 3, Sedoris 8, Whitfield 20, Wright 13. T2: Fern Creek (2-3) - Grigsby 18, Bernard 3, Terry 16, Plemmons 2, McCune 19, Thomas 2. 3P: Housley 1, Houston 1, Whitfield 2, Wright 2, Grigsby 2, Terry 2. South Oldham 67, Fern Creek 60 -- The visiting Dragons (2-2) were led by Jasmine Whitfield with 20 points, seven steals, and five assists. Teonia McCune led the Tigers (2-3) with 19 points.
  15. I was wondering about Mckee-did not see her name in the score box. Hope she is feeling better. They probably would have won if she was healthy. Cann and Mckee make a good guard combination, not sure if I know Whiteside but she had a good game.
  16. Those are the two players I meant--not a secret. I am sure Anderson has some kids getting recruited also. When these girls play outside of the 8th region in AAU/exposure events, coaches can really see how good they are.
  17. Wainscott is a very good player, but to say she is the best player in the region is taking it a bit far. She was the best player last year but I think there are more athletic girls that have drastically improved. There are girls in the region being recruited by Xavier, Notre Dame, U of L, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky..... Let's not crown her the "best" yet.
  18. If Dixon had 23, I guess the rest of the team had 12 pts. Where are all these terrific shooters? As I've always said a good defensive team almost always can beat a shooting team. Anyway, I'm sure WV will make adjustments and get better. I always pull for 8th region teams when they are playing outside our region, so I was hoping for an upset.
  19. First of all, let's put pre-season scrimmages in perspective. South lost the 1st quarter of this scrimmage by 23+ points and most of their points were by Sydney Moss in the 1st quarter. But South made adjustments and either won or played even, quarters 2, 3, and 4. South, as well as Boone County, did a lot of substituting--as most Coaches are using pre-season scrimmages to see where the team is as a whole and to practice plays. There were players getting significant minutes that will probably not play more that a minute in an actual game. So to make a comment from a scrimmage you did not see is useless. It was a competitive scrimmage with the exception of the first quarter. Sydney Moss is an exceptional player and most players would need some time to figure out how to play against her. She is very strong and counld finish baskets even when she was fouled hard.
  20. http://www.courier-journal.com/article/20101121/SPORTS0502/311210056/Girls-Eighth-Region-Anderson-County-will-remain-the-team-to-beat
  21. All I meant by saying they lost one game, was that you have to do a lot more than shoot well to win a game. The Sting actually had about 3 players that were 16U, most were 8th, ninth and 10th graders. The Hoyas also had about about 4 players playing up. I actually like to see the girls from the 8th get better because the 8th region will not get respect until we can compete well with other strong regions.
  22. Are you serious? I think W-V fans are a little too optimistic. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. After W-V has some quality wins in the 8th you can boast. Taulbee, Sandlin, and Slavey were on the same AAU team this summer. Yes, they can shoot, but they won one game at state AAU. A team must play defense to win. The 8th has several good, athletic teams. It will take offense, defense, and a little luck to win the region this year. I am very optimistic about South. We had a great summer.
