That's great! Very few players get that many offers before they begin their sophomore year. She must be an elite player. I'm always pulling for Kentucky players but hope you are not getting "offers" confused with "recruiting". Hope you are correct, but regardless she has accomplished a lot for an incoming sophomore!

I didn't know Morris wasn't in the core six. That's pretty sad. I have never seen her play but i would think that a UK commit and the only junior to make the courier journal first team all-state would be a no brainer for the core six. From what I remember several years ago, the junior all-star team is picked by the coach of the junior team. If that is still the case, I think the all-stars need to revamp and select this team from a committee of coaches. When I saw the original try-out list my first thought was, "In all of Louisville, 2 juniors were invited, seriously?" That's crazy to me.

Do you think that the late June date for the All-star game has anything to do with the participation? With D-1 basketball players having to attend all sessions of summer school there is a conflict for lots of athletes. I was discussing this with a coach from my daughter's school, she said the game was conflicting with summer school. Just a thought.

Are the other Miss basketball candidates hurt? I know Ruffin is hurt but what about Rankin and Kiernan? I would think that a Miss Bball candidate would make the team.

LaRue County's career leader in points, rebounds and steals, she led the Lady Hawks to a 24-7 season, averaging 24.4 points and 12.6 rebounds. A repeat first-team selection, Brown will play for Western Kentucky University next season. Erin Boley Already on the recruiting radar of nearly ever major college program, the 6-1 sophomore led Elizabethtown to a state runner-up finish and a 32-5 record. She is ranked 19th nationally in the 2016 class by ESPN's HoopsGurlz. Boley averaged 20.5 points while shooting 55 percent from the field, including 43.3 percent from three-point range. She hit 84.8 percent of her free throws and averaged 9.2 rebounds a game. Makenzie Cann Also a repeat first-team selection, the 5-11 senior led Anderson County to a second straight State Tournament appearance and a 28-5 record. A University of Cincinnati commit, Cann averaged 17.3 points and 5.5 rebounds despite battling illness for several weeks. Cann shot 43.6 percent from the field, including 36.1 percent from three-point range, and was 77.4 percent at the free-throw line. Eriel McKee Cann's teammate on a 28-5 State tourney team, the 5-10 senior will play college ball for Morehead State University. A second-team pick as a junior, McKee stepped up this season to scored 19.4 points a game on 53.6 percent shooting accuracy. She also averaged 8.6 rebounds a game. Like Cann, she was a Miss Basketball finalist. DaiJia Ruffin A 5-9 senior who has committed to Tennessee Martin, Ruffin helped Sacred Heart to a 7th Region championship and an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen, finishing with a 27-8 record. Ruffin averaged 18 points a game while shooting 57.5 percent from the field. She added 9.5 rebounds a game and was a Miss Basketball finalist. Maci Morris A 5-10 junior who is verbally committed to the University of Kentucky, Morris helped Bell County to a 25-5 record and a spot in the 13th Region semifinals. Bell averaged 22.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. She shot 55.6 percent from the floor, 35.1 percent from beyond the three-point line, and 85.2 percent at the free-throw line. Kayla Rankin A repeat selection to the first team, the 6-0 senior averaged 28.4 points and 14.5 rebounds a game. She shot 60.6 percent from the field and 69.9 percent at the foul stripe. Rankin led Perry County Central to the Sweet Sixteen and a 23-7 record. She is ranked 66th nationally in the 2014 class by ESPN's HoopsGurlz. Danielle Lawrence A 5-10 senior, Lawrence was named MVP of the Sweet Sixteen, helping Butler to a 32-3 record and a state championship. Signed to play for IUPUI, she averaged 14.9 points and 5.2 rebounds. Lawrence shot 48.6 percent from the field, 81.8 percent at the free-throw line. Alexis Robinson The Ashland Blazer junior, who has verbally committed to Colorado, was a big reason why the Kittens went 26-9 and reached the Sweet Sixteen for a third consecutive season. Robinson averaged 16.5 points and 6.4 rebounds. She shot 39.8 percent from the field, 76.9 percent at the free-throw line. Javonna Layfield The 5-10 senior led Ballard to a 24-5 season, averaging 17.3 points and 9.8 rebounds. She shot 55.8 percent from the floor, 36.7 percent from three-point range, and 72.5 percent at the free-throw line. She joins a cousin, Danielle Lawrence, on the first team. She caps a comeback from a torn meniscus as a sophomore and an ACL injury as a junior. She is still looking at colleges, including Dayton, Ole Miss and North Carolina-Wilmington. 2014 Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game Slam Jam Festival Results CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY – The 23rd annual Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game got off to a rousing start Friday evening with its Slam Jam All-Star Night of Stars. The skills event competition featured the top Senior’s from both states and began with the Girls 3-Point Shootout. The winning player from Ohio was Amanda Cahill of Clyde, while Kentucky’s Ashley McMurtry (Oldham County) was crowned the overall champion defeating Cahill 11-9 in the final round. The Boys 3-Point winner from Ohio was Dakota Mathias (Elida), while Kentucky was represented by Nick Ruthsatz from KHSAA State Champion Covington Catholic. Mathias defeated Ruthsatz 14-8 in the overall championship. The second event of the night the 1-on-1 competition saw Ruthsatz (Covington Catholic) defeat Joe Jackson of Louisville Fern Creek by a score of 8-6 for the Kentucky Boys Championship. The Kentucky Girls winner was Danielle Lawrence (Butler) who defeated Erica Rogers from Montgomery County by a score of 9-5. The Ohio Girls Championship saw Ana Richter of Talwanda High defeat Brittany Johnson (Pickerington North) 8-4. The Girls overall champion was Richter with a 13-3 defeat of Lawrence. The Ohio Boys champion was Mathias (Elida) defeating Grant Benzinger (Moeller) 8-4. Mathias took the overall championship by a score of 11-4 over Kentucky’s Ruthsatz. In the 3-on-3 Championship the Kentucky Girls team of Eriel McKee (Anderson County), Kayla Rankin (Perry County Central), and Sarah Cooley (Lafayette) defeated Team Ohio’s Leanna Adkins (Oak Hill), Chelsea Mitchell (Princeton) and Kelsey Mitchell (Princeton) with a last second shot 9-7. The Boys Championship was taken by the Ohio team of Grant Benzinger (Moeller), Steve Carpenter (Fairfield), and Mitch Spotleson (Lake) who took down Kentucky’s Jake Schulte (Newport Central Catholic), Joe Jackson (Fern Creek), and Brandon Trotter (Seneca) by a final margin of 11-6.
