Two of the better 8th region teams from the southern end of the region square off on Tuesday night in Crestwood as the South Oldham Lady Dragons (6-4) host the Collins Lady Titans (6-4).

 

South comes in on a two game winning streak and boasting wins over some decent competition in George Rogers Clark, Fern Creek, Highlands, and Louisville Holy Cross. Their four losses have come to top-flight competition by a total of just 17 points (two losses to undefeated Jeffersontown, and losses to Indiana's Floyd Central and to Christian Academy of Louisville).

 

South is led by junior Jasmine Whitfield at 20 ppg.

 

Collins is also 6-4, but lost 2 of 3 in their own tournament recently. They are coming off a 63-19 pounding of cross-town rival Shelby County. Injuries have hit the Lady Titans hard of late, but Ailiyah Wells gives them a force on the inside that few teams can match.

I will take South Oldham by double digits. South appears to be playing pretty good right now.

South by double digits. Lady Dragons will want revenge for last seasons regional loss to Shelby County/Collins. Dye and Whitfield will win the rebounding war.

For South...

 

Whitfield is one of the most versatile players in the region, averaging 20.4 ppg, 7.5 rebounds, 4.8 steals, while hitting 54% of her 2-point shots. Tremendous defender, can shoot the three, handles the ball well, rebounds. I've never seen her actually play center, but have no doubt the young lady could play all five positions.

 

Mary Dye is very close to averaging a double-double, with 13 ppg and 9 rebounds. A very mobile center, she's hitting 40% of her threes and also averages 2.3 blocks per game.
