I would be willing to bet that this school also has the best of everything else as well. Technology, Teachers, Coaches and Administration. This is also a great demonstration of what can become when a community (and a large one) gives their children a competitive advantage all around. School, Sport and Life. I am sure parents line up to try and send their kids to this school for whatever reason. Success. It brings out the best in everything.......

So I see the debate on here within threads about how young coaches get the shaft a lot when applying for head jobs. Does the recent success of the two young coaches in the NCAA do anything to help the plight of young men who are driven to coaching? If I am not mistaken neither of the two NCAA coaches are past mid-30. Butlers coach has been there for a few years so he may have even started around 29 or so. If these guys are running college programs then why are our high school administrators so reluctant to hire young coaches for thier programs? If I were a program on the small decline and had a coach who had been around for a while and was leaving, I think I would try to find a young, dedicated and motivational coach to replace him. What are your thoughts on young head coaches?

I also think we overlook the talent aspect of this. All of the talent in NKY is being siphoned to perennial programs. Not that I am against that, I would want to harvest athletic talent if I were a school simply from a student morale aspect. The higher the student and student athlete morale, the more parents want thier kids to attend. Lloyd will be able to pick up some talent but not nearly as much as others in the area.

I would be willing to bet Lail enjoys his gig with the MS team right now.. Just won a championship first year in, prolly has some decent return players or even incoming. Get good competition in the MS league as well. Just a thought..

Don't know much about Lucas Jr. but played for the youngest (Jerry) and couldn't have been given a better coach to play for. He was demanding while keeping it interesting and fun. I can remember really enjoying my Senior year in HS having him as our O-Coordinator. Wish I could have played for him for a few more years. I do think this was a good time for Lloyd to look for a new staff for thier high school. They have had some success with the younger kids and I think they needed to find a new path for thier HS. Not saying Coach Lucas wasn't doing a good job, don't know don't follow Lloyd a ton. I do know they haven't been that good or I would have seen it on here. Wouldn't be surprised if they go with a younger coaching staff as it seems that is where a lot of schools are going these days. Plus it might not be a bad idea to get some youthful energy in the building to help get these kids fired up.. Good luck to Coach Lucas, your family lineage is quite accomplished...

Nice false statement.. Not turning this thread into a Walton MS football thread.. But I do believe the team was only 3 games into the season and were 1-2 with losses to NewCath and Newport both very nice MS teams last year... So your comment does not have much validity except that you may not care for the previous coach very much... Also, the previous coach took the MS team to the MS playoffs the previous year, which was his first season as a head coach at any level, and Walton's first year in the league.. sounds like a pretty good job to me.. Ask McMillen about him and see what he has to say considering he was on McMillen's HS staff for two years... My final statement on that topic. These coaches don't deserve this nonsense during a discussion about VARSITY coach of the year..

Not 100% sure what McMillen and the previous middle school season has to do with this thread, but seems like you needed to get that off your chest.. Assuming you heard this story from the horses mouth right? Boone Co. schools seem to do just fine when thier pee-wee kids come to high school and they are not even affiliated with a school, so that I think is a moot point anyway. And yes, WV had a good season and they will continue to do well in 2A from what the district shaped up to be, not a ton of competition until the playoffs..(Gallatin, Trimble, Owen, Carroll)... Mayfield's coach has the best argument here for COY, although next year thier district is soft (both Fultons a combined 1-18) except Russelville dropping two classes (interesting)....

And recess was fantastic!!! Gotta find something to vent about.... But agree, have to move on eventually, it's only a game...

Must have missed the 92 finals game when I was looking.. makes sense tho that Alexander would have carried them there.. but still only 3 schools in 4 out of 23 years.. speaks for itself...

Haven't heard much about Collins bball team.. If they are as talented as thier first year football team was, watch out! Will be interesting to see how they do this year.. Who is thier coach? (collins)

Louisville has been the leader in the large school class football for a pretty long time.. Ever since 1987, only 3 teams from NKY have played in the state finals. Boone in 87, Ryle and SK most recently.. Louisville will always dominate big school football and continually win state championships...

This is always an interesting argument.. Somebody had brought up that the officials should help the WR to make the formation legal, etc. No way he should do that, now he should tell them to scoot up or back, etc. beyond that, it's up to the coaching and the player to know whats going on. I always love to give the officials I know a hard time about what they do, but it's a hard job and they take a lotta heat. Not just in football, but can you imagine basketball officials who have fans RIGHT in their ears?!? I hate going to small gyms during bball games and hear the fans SCREAMING at an official, they don't do it for the money but for the love of the game and to help young athletes get better.. I was always told by friends that every high school kid should have to wait tables to see how to treat people, but maybe we should have them referee pee-wee games and put up with daddy no-name who thinks he is Bobby Knight so they know how not to act towards officials... Mr. Official is a lost term in todays sport...

My bad, was reading that on my phone and must have mixed up the message.. I would relatively agree with cleaning house in this case, sounds to me like nobody was that happy with anything that was going on in Dayton. Might not be a bad idea for the admin. to sell a whole new group of people to the students and their parents. Hope this Montgomery guy is ready for a challenge, Dayton needs some major work to become competitive again..

Out of the previous list I would venture to say Joe Morris from Mayfield. Even though Beechwood hasn't had a "dominant" team in a few years, Mayfield got the better of them. I think the winner of an award like this should always go to the best coached team and not too many teams can say they were even competitive with Beechwood, let alone beat them soundly.. People have said year after year after year that Beechwood is a measuring stick for 1A football.. Mayfield has pulled out the yard stick...

I am pretty sure your original post insinuates that he came in and turned a 2-8 team to what it was this year. He was in charge in 2009, just making sure facts are straight Watusi. You of all people should understand that. Nobody said they didn't have a good year but their schedule was soft (don't care how long they have been playing).. You all put waaaay too much stock in the fact that the program is young, there have always been decent athletes in Walton and it was about time they added football. Wouldn't have mattered who the head coach was out there, they would have been successful with the talent that was coming up.

???? Thought the Russ guy was still the coach out there... Never saw anything on that situation, so its interesting to hear that comment.. These small schools are stirring some pretty good stories lately.. I agree with what somebody said earlier, tough job to take and get ready for a healthy dose of 5-5 in a good year..

He was the coach when they went 2-8.. Good season @ WV, but not coach of the year.. Soft district and St. Mary's School for the Blind could beat Bracken Co. Had they beat Frankfort, maybe a different story.. They are better off in 2A I think, district is again quite easy and should be in the playoffs every year..

I could have taken notes at the ryle /campbell game last week and told you anything u needed to know... its always nice to have tape as well tho.. I will be applying for HC jobs in due time my friend.. and if its legal to exchange tape why is it illegal to tape the urself? Strange rule...

Nobody knows, so before you make blank accusations check your own info... and to coach shearer, good luck, coaching in a small school is nearly impossible these days.. too many parents who have too much of the admin's ear...

What happened to good ol scouting?? Always found it hilarious that coaches exchanged game tapes.. I think its sad that a team has to allow another team to watch tape on them previous to their matchup.. you wanna know what i run and how I run it, send a scout to tape it or watch and take notes... laziness is what I call it...

Jerry Lucas is/will be a stud coach on that end of Shelby for a while... Great coach that kids want to play for, my vote goes to Collins and I hope they win state...

Campbell never had a shot at this one, game was over early in the third...
