I would be willing to bet that Highlands and NCC will be there. Ryle and Beechwood have a chance as well.

All due respect to the Birds and others but Elliott and Lawrence get my vote for the two best individual players in this area and I do not think that it is close.

I am a Ryle backer and I am very impressed with NCC. They play very hard, they are very physical and have some great athletes playing throughout their line up. I think they would have to be as good as any 2A team out there and may very well be the favorite.

And very honestly, if not for the three kick off returns from Boone, the game was very lopsided in Ryle's favor.

These three (Hemple, Elliott, Mullins) did not play both ways against CCH. Out of the three, Elliott only played one or two defensive plays. Ryle also played almost all two platoon last night. There were some players that spot played on both sides.

I had also heard that the group that is trying to get this "AAU" Union team together are parents that were unhappy with where their kids were drafted. I do not think that this is the way to organize a successful program. This needs to be done from top to bottom with coach Warners involvement. The involvement from coach Warner may be coming sooner rather than later.

Great topic, I have been a coach in the BCYFL for 4 years and I proposed a plan to divide by region and high school at one of the coaches meetings last season. Most of the coaches in the room were either against the idea or were stubborn that the idea could not work even though the plan is simple. I believe that using a school zone map and dividing kids to play in the district that will feed their high school is both easy and advantageous to all of the Boone County schools, but I was very frustrated at the response from the leaders of the BCYFL. I no longer attend the meetings.

Good point. I just meant that as a general philosophy, it is not done consistently. There will always be special circumstances where you may use your JV program in the ways that you have mentioned. I do know that these coaches that I mentioned in my original post would rather not use this practice for the most part.

It is definitely a philosophy. The coaches that I know in N KY (Dixie, Ryle, CCH) do not play juniors on the JV level.

On a side note, Luke Maile (formerly of Cov Cath and now a Ky Wildcat) hit a home run in his first official collegiate at bat for the Cats. Kentucky won 10-4 over Bowling Green.

Ryle is loaded in the freshman class. They had five 8th graders last year starting for the freshman squad that went to the frosh championship.

What I would like to have seen was Dawn Johnson more involved overall. I saw her play against Conner and she was unguardable in a one on one situation. She has the strength at the point guard position to take over a game. If I was on the bench, I would give her unlimited permission to drive the ball to the basket. I am very impressed with her ability to drive in the paint. She could definitely play at the next level.

Again Old Fart, I am not complaining and I am not referring to any one school. They do not build high schools in any county to satisfy sports fans and build super teams. Less students per class is better for education. I was just making the point to drum up some good discussion. In the last couple of years the Boone County schools have had to fight it out just to reach Regional play where other schools coast in after a crushing of an inferior opponent. I understand that it could be cyclical, but due to the population of the 6A schools and since I have coached many of the kids that populate these schools, I can say that they are not going away athletically any time soon.

Cov Cath should always have a fairly easy path to the Regional tourney in both basketball and baseball. Holmes is not usually very good in baseball and Beechwood is rarely good in basketball.

I am not complaining. I am comparing larger schools to larger schools. The example I gave was Cov Cath and Dixie Heights getting put into pretty simple districts in most years compared to four 6A schools battling it out just to get to a regional. From a high school athletes perspective, it is not a fair draw.

Give me your thoughts on how the Districts are aligned in N KY. For basketball and baseball I think they are very unfair, especially to the Boone County schools when you compare "getting out of district play" with some of the other schools in the 9th. Having four 6A schools in one district compared to teams like CCH and Dixie, who have to get by some smaller schools every year to advance.

This could be a little off topic but I think that the "Boone County" district in the 9th region (Ryle, Boone, Conner, Cooper) is completely unfair to those schools. There needs to be thoughts of a redistrict. When you are a 5A school like CCH or Dixie and get to play in a District with a few 1A and 2A schools compared to four 6A schools in one district, it is more than unfair.

I don't think Beechwood or Cov Cath would be considered in the top 25 in the state. No disrespect to them but they may not even be top five in N KY.

Ryle had six 8th graders (Jake Ashley, Travis Pavy, Hide Imai, Tyler Mason, Tanner Pulice, Jacob Raines) last year that started in the Freshman championship game. Some of those may move up to JV as freshman this season. All were pretty good and five of them hit one through five in the tournament last year. Pretty strong class overall.

I would probably disagree. I have seen both teams play and I think ST X would win easily. ST X is just as fast, if not faster, and has more depth. They are also bigger. Just my opinion.

I think people in Boone County are happy with where they are going to school and do not base their decision on which football program will be better for them. Football is something you do for recreation while you go to school. It is not the other way around.

I did not intend to provoke you on this board. I did mis-quote the actual numbers but not by much. My point to all of this is that there are many Trinity and ST X fans that come on here and consistently brag about how they are so dominant. This may not be you but it gets a little old reading these kinds of posts when in fact St X and Trinity should dominate based on the numbers of kids they get. The public schools they are beating draw from a certain area, and are restricted by boundaries. ST X and Trinity are not. A little more respect by some of these fans would be nice.

St X is truly a great program as is Trinity but please don't get too worn out patting yourself on the back. Both programs have about a thousand more students than anyone else. I would love to see you both matched up year in and year out with programs your own size. Maybe you both can join the GCL in Cincinnati. I would root for both Trinity and St X to succeed, but your run of championships and "dominance" would sure take a hit.

I watched Jalen Beal play quite a bit this year and he could have started for most of the Freshman teams in this area. He is very good!
