The kid was trying to bunt for a hit, NOT a sacrifice. I think we all agree that a sac bunt when you are down by that many runs was silly and even the player recognized that. Maybe not the best pitch to try it on, but let's give the players a little credit for understanding the situation at hand. :deadhorse:

I understand what you are saying. By the way, I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm viewing this particular program from a distance since I will have a kid coming up through it soon. This year they are senior heavy and will be next year as well, even with the junior cuts this year. Thanks again for all of the different takes on this.

Thanks for all of the replies. While I agree with the responses and I understand the concept, what I don't understand is why you would cut juniors and the expect them to come back out their senior year. This just tells me that it's a numbers thing and they realize that the sophmore class isn't that strong. Now, if I'm a junior and I get cut and the coach tells me to make sure I come back out next year as a senior, I don't think I would do it. If you think those juniors are good enough to come back as seniors, then you keep them in the program and have them play JV. Am I in the minority in that thinking???

Is there a KHSAA rule that prevents Juniors from playing JV baseball? I'm trying to figure out if there is a rule or just a coach's philosophy. If it's just a philosophy, I'm not sure I understand the reasoning especially when it involves cutting Juniors that have been in the program since their Freshman year.

Is this in fact accurate? I was told last night that the draw hasn't happened yet and is supposed to be this weekend. Can anyone confirm this?

Unfortunately, it is accurate. Their current record is 5-11 and they have struggled to close out games all year, including two 1-run losses to Ryle. Hopefully the good draw in the tournament will give them a little bit of momentum.
