Err on the side of the player. Be flexible and don't paint yourself into a corner with black-and-white rules. Every situation is usually different with a different set of circumstances.

My opinion on the original question is yes, the Wing-T can be a championship offense if you have good coaching, a disciplined approach, and talent. Is the spread, Air Raid, up-tempo, shotgun, etc... more fun to watch? For the majority of fans, I would say yes. When addressing the notion that the Wing-T has a ceiling and you can't win championships with it, what do you say about all the programs that run a spread, shotgun, Air Raid, etc... that lose often, or are mediocre, or even win a lot but haven't won a championship? Is the offense they run holding them back or other factors such as lack of talent, lack of tradition, lack of resources, or other teams in their district or region are just better? Why do those offenses get a pass but the Wing-T doesn't?

While we're discussing the Wing-T and JH, current Head Coach Doug Preston went to 3 State Championships from 2016-2018 winning two of those I think, running the Wing-T at Franklin Simpson. He's a good coach, the Wing-T is a good offense, and like any offense, it's just better when you have more talent.

A few thoughts... 1. Scott County beat Meade County in 2013. Meade also ran the Wing T if I'm not mistaken, I'm not sure what that means, it's just interesting. 2. I think the old John Wooden quote applies when discussing the scheme: "It's not what you do but how you do it". 3. Another applicable saying is, "It's not the Xs and Os it's the Jimmys and Joes". A great example is the 2005 John Hardin team that ran the Deleware Wing T. They were disciplined, versatile, and threw the ball effectively. JH had good players including a dual-threat QB and great team speed. They made a run in the playoffs during the old 4-class system beating PRP, Male, and lost to ST. X (eventual state champ) by one point 21-20, in the Region Championship. You can win at a high level running the wing T. You need a disciplined approach and talent, but the same can be said about any system. Perception is the issue with the Wing-T, kids want to run what they see on TV and most fans don't appreciate the beauty of the Wing-T offense.

I would consider Graves County a "good job". There are good and bad aspects with every job but the good at Graves far outweigh the bad in my opinion. Good support from the administration Great support from boosters/parents Great area to live: close to LBL / Ky Lake. Around 2hrs to Nashville, St. Louis, Memphis, and Bowling Green. The cost of living is reasonable, home prices are very affordable. Mayfield itself is still recovering from the tornado but still an enjoyable place to live and raise a family. The talent runs in cycles like most rural schools but Graves wins consistently and has had multiple 8-11 win seasons over the last decade or so with a State Championship appearance in 2014. The HC stipend is a little over $13,000 with assistant stipends that are as good or better than most programs in the area. Anyway, I like the topic its interesting to hear about programs throughout the state.

Nice preview but the RB/LB’s name from 2014 is Cody Crider. He went on to play 5 years at SIU where he had a great career playing LB for them.

They had 6 starters out. 5 on defense and 1 on offense. It was 38-6 Graves with 2:00 and some change to go when graves took their starters out. McCracken scored twice on graves' jv/freshmen.

Great read as always. I wanted to add to week 0 players of the week. Graves County's Sr. Receiver Trevor Grant broke a single game school record with 264yds receiving. Back up QB Cody Goatley also broke a single game school record with 405yds passing. He accounted for 5 tds with 3 passing and 2 rushing.

Not sure Graves County would break the top 10, but if Murray, Calloway, and Butler County are in the conversation, Graves should be as well. Beat both Murray and Calloway last year, lost to Christian County by 7 and lost to Owensboro by 1. Some key players returning, so Graves should be improved this year.

Eagle Pride has gotten some bad information. Coaches break down film on their own on Saturdays and then spend 6-7 hours Sunday afternoon meeting and game planning for that week's opponent. The scouting report with hudl data breakdowns etc... is ready for the players Monday afternoon. Friday mornings are for the team devotional, not for game planning for that night's opponent, ha ha.

Their QB Miles played the entire game. Good win Eagles.
