  1. First of all Clyde, I can't thank you enough for the thread. I'd like to clear up something. I did not do the Oyler game by myself. I had decided that I would if I had to, but my color man on CovCath radio, Head CCH freshman coach Kevin Connor, took time away from his family on one of his only free Friday nights to do the game with me. Kevin talked about these kids like they were his own, and it was all genuine. There were kids in this game that would play for any team in NKY. Oyler would be the #2 seed in 1A right now, guaranteed. Click here for the link to the game. Treat yourself. Also, the kid I mentor is Donnie Thomas. He's their QB, point guard on the basketball team and pitches on their baseball team. Kevin stated he has J. J. Jude speed. It was played at West High and they have an incredible facility. It was as nice a Friday Night Lights atmosphere that I could remember. Both teams were 1-7 and were playing like they were going for the playoffs. Players limping around and teams having to call a time out to keep them in the game because Oyler only had 14 kids in uniform. I can't remember a more rewarding 3 hours spent. I did get to see Donnie on the field with his many family members who sported t-shirts with his picture on the front and Don Don on the back. I gave him a hug and asked him if we was ok as he fought back tears. He just nodded and thanked me for coming. I think he knew this was going to be the last time he put on the pads, unless of course the college coaches that Kevin Connor contacts this weekend give him a call. Oh I failed to mention that Donnie had about 500 yards of offense with 200 kick return yards and an 80 yard TD on a return. Not sure of the rushing and passing stats. He punts and plays defense as well. He's about 5'-7" and about 150 pounds. He's an 'A' student and during one meeting at Oyler he told me his favorite bible quote. He told me once that he only reaches for things above him and nothing below him. He's a winner. Someone needs to take a chance. He wants to go into engineering. One reason they paired us up was my passion for sports. I'm lucky to have had this opportunity to know him.
  2. I do enjoy looking at the whole in the wall put in there after the Bovard catch in 2006.....so I'm told.
  3. Hate losing to the Birds. Love the guys in their press box. Good people.
  4. If Dale is worried about fan reaction with him running the ball instead of throwing it, two things; for one I'd be absolutely stunned and two, I'd say there are problems in Ft. Thomas. I'd say he wanted a first down and was not going to get it running the football.
  5. I firmly believe that there is no such thing as excessive celebration by the players. You win, you can celebrate any way you want. There's only excessive whining and sour grapes by the losers.
  6. Elder is still #18 in Ohio. That's incredible considering they are 2-6. Their opponents include: Trinity #1 in KY and #2 in Nation, St Edwards #6 in Ohio and #44 in Nation, Central #7 in Florida and #29 in Nation, St. Xavier #2 in Ohio and #12 in Nation, Moeller #1 in Ohio and #2 in Nation. CardinalsFan, let's hear who you think played a tougher schedule in the country. We'll be waiting patiently. HHS should not take this 2-6 team lightly.
  7. I believe it's Maxpreps ranking. If someone is a member, can you please verify for me.
  8. CovCath scored 37 points. The most scored by an NKY team against Highlands in over 13 years. I'd say not even close. Plus their most difficult opponent is Elder and they have not played them yet.
  9. I would be very comfortable with Matt Summe filling in for Blake Bir if the need were to arise.
  10. Most surprising win of the year in NKY and maybe the state.
  11. Just click on the same link that you click on for the live broadcast. They'll be out there. And thanks!
  12. Also, sorry we were not on the air. There were some personnel and technical issues. First game we've missed since we've been on the air. Actually the pressure of the streak was just getting too great. It had to end some time.
  13. TOG, facts or not, any time you start out a summary talking about the disparity in penalties and their effects, it's going to appear as complaining. Just the way it is, even if your intentions were to state facts. Since it was one of your initial points, it seems like it was a main point in your summary. It's escalated in a 49 point blowout. Those are facts.
  14. I can't believe the penalties are even a discussion. It's annoying.
  15. Has CovCath won a regular season game at any level against Highlands football teams since John Wehry's 43 yard TD pass to John Shouse against the JV as time expired in 2006? Yes, just curious for personal reasons. :ylsuper:
  16. Thanks TOG. And interview with Merrill Hoge at halftime is worth the time.
  17. Thanks Sweep. Some of you may recall that last year we covered the regular season matchup of the freshman and it was the same time that the Reds played the Phillies in game one of the playoffs. Yes, CovCath lost and it was disappointing, but I did get to miss the no hitter against my Reds!!! And there's more interest in this game than some schools have in their varsity game. That's why we're there. And the kids love going back and listening.
  18. Catch the game live on CovCath Internet Radio. Click here.
  19. There is an excellent chance that we'll be broadcasting this game on CovCath Internet Radio.
