Qryche11 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Is Cov Cath's secondary that bad? I am even more convinced they will struggle against Highlands. I know that Bir throws it well but they may want to consider using their big line and keeping it on the ground against the Birds. If Towles gets a lot of touches it will get ugly early.
CardinalsFan Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 How do you call a game at halftime? -CF
scout Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 It was 107 on the field and the decision to restart the game was out of everyone's hands. Their option was to wait til it gets cooler or call it. Didn't sound like anyone wanted to wait til 6:00 am tomorrow to play it. After what happened in L'ville a couple of years ago, no one is playing around with heat in the KHSAA. I saw a couple of kids who were in obvious heat distress. No. 99 for LaSalle was cooked.
scout Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Okay, now for the game. LaSalle maybe having a down year, but they are still a big, fast, physical football team. Their LB, No. 37 owned the middle of the line. Before anyone jumps on the Colonels too much, I don't think the game was as bad for them as the score might indicate. To me it comes down to two things: 1) Tackling on Defense and 2) confidence on Offense. Last year CovCath had trouble getting kids in the right spot on Defense. The scheme was so complicated that lots of times runners were never touched. Today, at last week for that matter, kids were in place to meet the ball carrier. They simply didn't make tackles. That is fixable. On offense, they started moving the ball well, but then they had a few set backs and their chins dropped. This is still a farily young bunch and they need a game plan that can build on small successes till their confidence comes up. The fumble and the blocked punt crushed their confidence.
JOHNDUNHOFT Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 It was so darn hot in the stands we finally left with 4 min to go in half and LaSalle was up 34-10. I can see why they called the game we were soaked in sweat just sitting there I can imagine how the young men felt. LaSalle is big and the QB is quick and will only get better as he plays more games. Overall LaSalle is big and a good football team. CovCath was impressive at times and it seemed like the heat and the size of LaSalle was wearing on CovCath. Good call by all on stopping the game. JD
Frank329 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Good call by the officials. Safety of the athletes is paramount.
C6H0-83 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Reason #108 why I for one prefer Friday night under the lights!
CovCathiRadio Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Scout is 100% correct, the KHSAA has a heat index rule, no gray area. There was no doubt in my mind that it would not be completed. The fumble at the LaSalle 6 on first and goal for the Colonels that was returned to the CovCath 45 was a huge play. As was the punt return for a TD for LaSalle. As was the first kick return of the year against CCH to the Colonel 45, as was the blocked punt at the Colonel one yard line after starting CCH punter was out with an injury. CovCath outgained LaSalle on offense 267 to about 257. Bir threw for 226 and almost 200 in the first quarter. Capano for LaSalle for threw for 79 on 8 for 15. LaSalle ran for 160 and CCH held to 41 and 20 of those came on the last 45 second drive when LaSalle was in prevent. LaSalle was better, but not 31 points in a half better. Bir's only pick of the year he was trying to throw it away and is slipped out of his hand and was tipped and then picked.
CovCathiRadio Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Berger #37 for LaSalle, I think sought after by Northwestern, disrupted a lot of what CovCath wanted to do on offense and Leahy #69, possibly headed to UC is a beast. Best two defenders CovCath will see all year. The wide receiver #10 Kief I think is like 6'-6" was a huge match up problem for the Colonels.
Clyde Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 A D3 QB played pitch and catch. CCH broke up one pass in the half. The others were either completed with ease or overthrown. Speed difference between LaSalle and CCH DBs was significant. CCH gave up short passes and they gave up long passes. So the "Zeke is D1" excuse last week doesn't fly. In other words, PT and Sheehan can't wait.
Clyde Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Bir looked good once again. Running game struggled.
Theoldguy Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I will post a scoring summary, but I have to take a shower and cool down a bit as I feel light headed and sick to my stomach after breaking down equipment and putting it away in this heat. The press box although we were out of the sun was a sweat box with little or no wind blowing in and I am soaked to the skin in sweat! The heat was just to much for me today and I work outside a lot but WOW. As was stated, the KHSAA doesn't screw around after the incident in Louisville a couple of years ago with game or practice temp over 104 and I was surprised when told that the OHSAA doesn't have such a heat rule!
