We've found the key to LaSalle's decisive victory over CCH on Saturday.

Look for Dave Wirth to send coaches and staff to Ohio to study how they can back up the "we're tough" claim.

On a serious note, it's crazy that OH doesn't have a heat index rule.

Arkansas didn't either until another kid died and the school had no athletic trainer and it took EMTs 15 minutes to get to the kid.

Ohio has a heat acclimation rule ... That is probably a better system than we have here.

Yeah, well this guy really just doesn't get it. Sometimes it's better to "no" comment. I pray something doesn't happen over there or this video clip might just show up. "we push our kids". HA! Too what extreme? I much rather see a game called than to have someone get ill or even worse. "We have to play". Please!!! I guess we know why Ohio football is superior. I will take second fiddle.

There was a game on ESPN something today in the afternoon, that I assume was from Florida. Glades, vs. somebody.

ESPN also telecast a doubleheader last weekend from Alabama, both games were played in the afternoon.

There was a time many folks in Cincinnati thought Grippa was the best HS coach in the area.

When he left Elder to go to LaSalle, many predicted a power would emerge in the northwest area of the city. And one did, at Colerain. LaSalle's pretty much been LaSalle with Grippa at the helm. Cyclical talent, but generally fighting an uphill battle in the GCL south.

Never really bought into the Grippa hype, though I think he's a better than average coach. His statements about the heat puzzle me; why say anything? And why play the, "we're tough," card? Really, you guys giving out salt pills over there?

I'm not sure if the KHSAA or OHSAA has a better system for heat related issues, but I know both have them in for a reason. You don't decide to "out tough" heat.

I agree with the heat index rule. Saturday was way too hot. How do the schools in Texas and Florida and other hot beds deal with the heat?

I read a study a few years back about weather conditions as they apply to outdoor activities and sports, and it suggested that the KY/TN area has the toughest weather conditions to acclimate to in the United States. People who live their lives in the heat, ala Texas and Florida, have bodies that are used to dealing with those conditions. People who live their lives in the cooler temps are likewise more acclimated to those conditions. Here in the Bluegrass State, our weather is so manic that our bodies are never completely able to get used to one condition or another.

I agree with some of the others in this thread, why would you ever say this? If, God forbid a LaSalle player ever has a heat related illness this will be exhibit A in probably a criminal and civil case. It just goes to show that some football coaches are very good coaches but that doesn't mean they have a lot to work with between the ears.

Interesting. So I guess that means Kentucky and Tennessee are the "toughest" because we don't acclimate.:D

I will see if I can dig it up.

I have seen it before ... Just need to find it.

It was something that impressed me as far as common sense goes.

The nice thing I saw is there they give a chart showing what's safe and what's not in regards to the air temp plus humidity. Good education.

I can tell you that at an OH game on Saturday morning the on field temp was 100 and the humidity was in the 30% to 40% range which puts the index at about 107 and they played the entire game.
