As a Rebel fan I agree with the above post. I sometimes think that he needs to be a bit more 'selfish' when he is on the court. I believe he does defer to the seniors on the team. That's a very good point. :ylsuper: I believe, along with the other 'athletes' on the Boone team that a more up tempo style would benefit Montgomery more. Is he getting any looks from any colleges? :idunno: I think he has DI talent that shows during the AAU leagues more so than the motion offense that Boone runs. I'd think he would fit in well with a MAC type school: Miami, Ohio, Ball State, etc.. Isn't your Junior year when most of the recruiting takes place?

Wow, I was on the Boone side and didn't see any misbehaving parents. I heard a couple of loud comments directed to the referees but nothing that I would categorize as extremely disappointing. Did I miss something? :idunno: Anything you can share?

Exactly what I was thinking as well. I would have said of the overachieving 7-7 Crusaders though.....

Top Two reasons for St. Henry victory over Boone... #1 - Free Throws - Free Throws, Free Throws, Free Throws. I would love to see what the stats were in the free throw category in the 4th quarter and in OT. St. Henry didn't miss any (seemed like) and Boone didn't make any. #2 - Coaching - Coach Faust. I agree with CCR in a post at the top of the thread. He gets more out of his players than any other coach in the 9th region. If he's not the best coach in N. Ky, he is in the top 2 or 3. And, well, the BCHS coach isn't Faust. How much input does Coach Downs have at Boone? I hear nothing but good things about him as a coach and in AAU, however, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of communication between the head coach and Coach Downs during games. I would like to see him a bit more involved in some of the decision making / substituions during games. How, when taking the ball out at the end of regulation with 1.8 seconds left and you have to go the length of the court do you NOT put someone on the baseline (under your offensive basket) to ensure that the inbounds pass doesn't go out of bounds without being touched which allowed St. Henry to then inbound the ball under their own basket. Again, hats off to Coach Faust on play they called to get a wide open look at the buzzer that could have avoided OT all togheter. Referring- Just to make a comment about the refs, some of the calls and non calls (BOTH WAYS) were just terrible. I especially liked the push of the St. Henry player at mid court by Boone that was called as over and back. I thought that was a classic. I don't understand why it is not mandated that high school games do not require 3 referees!! I believe it is up to the home team to determine whether or not a third referree is at the game? Does someone know the rule on that one? If that is the case, then, if I had a physical team and was playing at home, I would just seek to have just two refs call the game. Just my opinion, but I could see where this could be taken advantage of. I'm not saying that was the case in this game at all, just an observation in general. There were a ton of missed calls, a ton a questionable calls and a ton of bad calls. Not just my opinion, but the reaction from both sets of fans when calls were made would support that claim. I know they aren't perfect, but come on.... As for fixing the Rebels..... I don't know how much actually needs to be fixed, however, with the very limited action for Earls and Lay, once they get back on the court, they should be fine. I would like to see Gabbard get more shots (as noted in an earlier post) and be more assertive and can the Rebels please use their athletes and run up and down the court and allow them to make plays? They should be scoring in the 70's, not having to make a late run to get into the 50's. Just my thoughts....

Any box scores or stats? I didn't see anything in the paper about the game. Thanks Einstein for the quarter updates on the previous thread. Looks like Newport exploded in the 2nd quarter. Boone stayed in a zone defense after Newport kept hitting 3's (9 or 10 of them)? That's a lot, how many did they shoot? Why didn't Boone play man defense? Was it because no Lay and no Earls?

They posted it very early last year (around this time) as well. It must be one of the last things they do on their checklist for the current year. #121 - conduct draw for next years state tournament. #122 - turn out the lights.

In talking to a Louisville parent at the state tournament, they said that Mercy built a new structure (gym or school, I don't recall) that would force them to align with the 7th region next year. I guess they built it (physically) within the 7th region????? At least that is what I took from the conversation. I had not heard anything about Dupont Manual moving to the 6th.

Any stats?

So much for the 9th region catching a break with Mercy switching regions and joining Sacred Heart, Assumption in the 7th region in 2010.:irked: It looks like the 7th and 9th region will meet in the semi's assuming things play out like they have in the past.....:popcorn:

Amen E&E with regard to him playing more last year. We beat that :deadhorse: all last year.... Now, it looks like we will :deadhorse: with Boone's style of play this year....

Just imagine how much better the stats would be if they actually ran up and down the court!!! Ok, I'll get off my soapbox about the 'style' of play by the Rebels. 100% agree. Wasn't a timeout called prior to the free throw by Boone? Perhaps the stategy was to get the missed free throw (or inbound the ball), get the ball to mid court and then call a timeout. Then you can assess the situation. Are you down 1 (missed front end) Are you down 2 (missed the second free throw) Are you down 3 (made both) I'm ok with going that route with the timeout, however, I agree that it took to long to call it. I don't know if that is a coahing issue if the players couldn't get the ball to mid court quickly enough. I think the coaches waited as long as they could to get the ball to mid court and then finally had to just call the timeout when they did. I'm ok with that if the strategy was to call a time out. I also agree with you on Popp going to the basket. I left him off with regard to that in the letter to Santa only because I think he is Boone's biggest 3 point threat and like him roaming around the line. But, yes, add him to the group of drivers/slashers. Especially with his free throw shooting ability. draw some fouls. Anyway, I believe the offensive style Boone runs is going to hurt them in the long run this season. Just my opinion.

Is Popp hurt? Only 7 minutes? Any reason he wasn't on the court at the end of the game?

As for the game... How to handle the last 7 seconds..... After getting the rebound from the missed free throw, and putting the ball in your PG's hands..... I know it is 50/50 on whether to call a timeout in that situation or not and each coach has their own opinion. My thought is you have the ball in your point guards hands and players are spread out throughout the court. Why not let him (senior) go to the basket and make a play? Once the timeout was called, my first thought was that NCC still had a foul to give (5 team fouls) and they would use it when the ball got inbounded anyway and then you more than likely are inbounding the ball again with roughly two seconds left. So, my questions are: Do you agree with the timeout at 4 seconds with the ball at 3/4 court? Do you agree with NCC not fouling when they still had a foul to give? Just some things to banter.... Thoughts?

Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is to have Boone Co play man to man pressure defense full court (the heck with the zone defense!!! Pressure, pressure, pressure) and run with the ball on offense to give their talented, athletic, smart baksetball players as many scoring oppurtunities as possible. For one game, my present for the team would be > Gabbard - take the ball to the basket and shoot or pass it back out, Popp shoot threes until your arms hurt, Cotton and Montgomery - cut, slash and drive; Brown, get to the low block and look for the dump down, if you don't get it then go get a rebound, Earls run the court and go to the basket, if you want to go outside on occassion, ok, just don't make it a habit, we need you down low first. If anyone gets tired raise their hand and we'll bring in the next horse so you can catch your breath) I know they are 3-1, however, they are a couple baskets away from 1-3!!! That for a #2 ranked team in N. Ky is not what I would have expected. Can you please see what you can do? It's a shame to see this group of young men have to continue to play this deliberate style of offense. If you can't give me/this team this gift, I don't know who they play next, however, my prediction is: 49 - 47. Thanks,

I agree with your statement above. I disagree with that strategy when you have the bench depth that Boone's has. Why keep teams around when you can run them off the floor. Just my opinion from coaching various teams. Seems you make things more difficult on your team to have them play a different style than what is their strengths (although, pressure defense is a nice strength that Boone has) it is the set offense that is a bit worrysome. The more possessions you have the more points you can score on the offensive end. What I would do is run on the offensive end and play pressure defense on the other end. From watching a bunch of these guys play AAU, they can and do wear down the other teams with their pressure defense and atheticism on offense. Again, just my opinion. I thought there was a senior coming back that was a catch a shoot player, perhaps I am wrong. :idunno: So, what I believe you are saying is that McQuery is their best option off the bench for 'offense' even though he is a Sophomore. Would he be listed as #2on the depth card behind Earls? I'm ok with the motion offense when you go up against teams that are as athletic or even more athletic than you (Holmes and perhaps a couple other), however, it just doesn't seem as though you are playing to your teams strength during the other games. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :popcorn:

With Earls, I agree the Rebels by double digits. If Earls doesn't play, I still like the Rebels, just not as much. I would put Brown on the NCC Big Guy and take my chances. Is the Jr. class, outside of Brown and Montgomery not as strong as expected? What about Oppenheimer, any action to date? I thought all summer the talk was about all the juniors and seniors Boone had on the team. I'm surprised that the Sophomore is getting some extended minutes. I still say, with the motion offense that Boone runs and not letting the horses run, you allow teams to 'stick around' when you have more athletes and a deeper bench. I'm surprised they are not scoring in the 70's. Heck, they are barely hitting the 60's! Boone 59 NCC 47
