Can't believe theres no talk about this game as both are undefeated members of the 9th region top 5 (yes, I know its early but its still worth noting). NCC coming off blow out victory over Holy Cross. Boone coming off rough week with a two point win over Ryle, a dog fight at Walton-Verona, and an overtime thriller against fellow top 25 team West Jessamine. This game is also a matchup of arguably the two best point guards in NKY in Gabbard vs. Pangallo. With all of this being said, who wins this early season bout between 9th region undefeateds?

Boone by 7 on their home floor. I wonder if Earls is still injured.

I like Boone in this one. I think their depth will be the difference.

Earls missed the Walton-Verona game completely and only played a few minutes against West Jessamine. I would expect about 5 or 6 minutes against NewCath but Montgomery and Brown probably getting the majority of his regular playing time.

If Boone has a healthy Earls, then I like Boone by 10. If Earls does not play or only plays a little, then this game could go either way.

With Earls, I agree the Rebels by double digits.

If Earls doesn't play, I still like the Rebels, just not as much. I would put Brown on the NCC Big Guy and take my chances.

Is the Jr. class, outside of Brown and Montgomery not as strong as expected? What about Oppenheimer, any action to date? I thought all summer the talk was about all the juniors and seniors Boone had on the team. I'm surprised that the Sophomore is getting some extended minutes.

I still say, with the motion offense that Boone runs and not letting the horses run, you allow teams to 'stick around' when you have more athletes and a deeper bench. I'm surprised they are not scoring in the 70's. Heck, they are barely hitting the 60's!

Boone has been playing a deliberate offense the last couple of years and relying on tough defense to keep their opponent's score low. They won't blow out many teams, and many of their games will be close, while following this approach.

Boone has 7 seniors this year. 2 did not come back. Schulze and Earls are coming back from injuries. Gabbard, Popp, Earls, Schulze, Cotton, and Lay (all seniors) will still be the core. Junior Travis Montgomery has been playing well and deserves lots of minutes right now and is currently an integral part as well. Oppenheimer hasn't been sitting varsity yet. Brown will contribute this year. Burgess is an athletic, tall forward, but he hasn't gotten any varsity minutes yet. Crabtree has only played briefly.

Sophomore Zane McQueary is an accurate catch-and-shoot shooter, and there are times when this is helpful when teams are focusing on stopping Boone's 4 seniors.

I agree with your statement above. I disagree with that strategy when you have the bench depth that Boone's has. Why keep teams around when you can run them off the floor. Just my opinion from coaching various teams. Seems you make things more difficult on your team to have them play a different style than what is their strengths (although, pressure defense is a nice strength that Boone has) it is the set offense that is a bit worrysome. The more possessions you have the more points you can score on the offensive end. What I would do is run on the offensive end and play pressure defense on the other end. From watching a bunch of these guys play AAU, they can and do wear down the other teams with their pressure defense and atheticism on offense. Again, just my opinion.

I thought there was a senior coming back that was a catch a shoot player, perhaps I am wrong. :idunno:

So, what I believe you are saying is that McQuery is their best option off the bench for 'offense' even though he is a Sophomore. Would he be listed as #2on the depth card behind Earls?

I'm ok with the motion offense when you go up against teams that are as athletic or even more athletic than you (Holmes and perhaps a couple other), however, it just doesn't seem as though you are playing to your teams strength during the other games.

Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think it will be close only because of Pangallo and Geisler. Boone Co has way too much depth for the Breds this season.

Thamann did not come back this year. I don't think McQueary is Earls backup. He plays more on the wing when he is in.

NCC and it is not an upset. They have a really nice team. I like Boone and think they have a nice team also, but If the Breds play like they did against Highlands in last year's district - Watch out.

Now Come on... :notworthy: if NCC plays anyone like they did in last year's district game against Highlands they can beat ANYONE in KY. :scared:

How many 3's did they knock down in the 3rd Q.? 5 or 6 ???

It will be close because of the two teams style with or without Earls
