Eply is a strong player and a hard worker. Plays a tough consistent game, and can really shoot the 3. Along with Sewell, who is obviously a player as he has already recd an offer and committed to Miami of Ohio, Trinity will be a power to be dealt with. Both are improved from last year. So look for Trinity to make some noise. Add in the other returning players and some lower classmen, which are coming along in their skills and look out!

There has to be something done to a coach for encouraging dirty play. That is my point. I suppose it could be a technical foul on the coach or the bench, just like they call for obscene language or unacceptable harrassing of the official. If an official hears a coach say.."if they go in for a layup, take them out" or if the coach says "take them out of the game", or undercut them on their move to the basket or on the rebound" yes there should most definitely be a technical foul assessed. Will the official ever hear this from a coach, probably not, i would think coaches are smarter than to say something like that within ear shot of an officialy. But as a spectator, i have heard it first hand. I am frustrated with the dirty play. There should be some way of getting it under better control. Any ideas? This goes for the boys and the girls...i see it with both.

Reintroducing this thread since it is the beginning of a new season. I have watched LOTS of basketball over many, many years. Yes, there is way too much dirty play! Period. Some of it initiated by the player themselves, i.e. that's just the type of player they are (sad to say, but it's true). But I have also personally heard coaches also instruct players to play dirty, such as, "If they have someone go in for a layup, I (the coach) want someone to take that player out". I could go on with comments I have heard. Undercutting, nothing but dirty play. Pulling jerseys, nothing but dirty play. pushes in the back, especially in the paint on the low post, nothing but dirty play could go on and on. And I have to say, that sometimes what people may "persieve" as dirty play, is a response from a player, resulting from dirty play first initiated by a player on the other team. The officials don't always see what first initiated and caused a player to respond in a certain way. The officials aren't going to see it all. The ONLY way this will stop is for the officials to get control and impose fouls on these players and coaches, if the official hears the coach. So with the beginning of a new season, will anything change? Just have to wait and see.

I Do not understand why Owen is not ranked above Shelby or at least Anderson with all of this talent. The rest of us in the region don't stand a chance

Great to hear all of this....wish the best for Elisha, is he planning to play at the next level? Look forward to seeing Shelby Valley this year. What about Ashley Hatfield. He is a talent also. Any schools lookiing at him? Does any one know? Wish them both the best.

Have to disagree....most don't realize what it takes to play at a top level D1 school.....All you mention are for sure talented, but maybe at the Mid to low level D1s....guess time will tell...... I do like Elisha Justice....isn't that what this thread was about....not sure he's a top D1 either, but he is fun to watch....best of wishes to all of them...

Well it sounds like you have good access to the stats...i don't and have not seen as many games as maybe you have, but if you have the stats, then the true story about selfish ball is revealed by looking at the assist stat. Who lead in assists last year for Owen?.. And how many assists did not get counted because a player missed a shot that should have been made and therefore it would have/should have been counted as an assist.... I agree Owen has a strong freshmen class this year....it will be interesting to see how the coach puts them in the team mix...some may be stronger that some of the Juniors/Seniors.

I watched Owen play 5 or 6 times last season. Are we talking about the same player #5. I was extremly impressed with her floor game.

I think the lady Rebels will be one of the top teams in the region. They Have IMO the top player in the 8th region in Gayhart, and a top 10 player in Kemper. They also have a lot of talent in the freshman class. The key will be. Will their coach have the nerve to play the younger more talented players. (IMO)

I am just quoting what I have heard some college coaches say regarding what they look at during recruiting and I think they were mainly talking about the 4 and 5 positions .........sure they have to have offensive skills, and convert when the opportunity is there, but the D1 level wants big bodies to be able to take the pounding, rebound and guard the paint. There are some 6'7" and 6'8" players in KY that do this very well, some averaging double doubles or close to double doubles and play defense very well, they are shutting down some of the other "more recognized" players in the state, but seems they are not getting the recognition they deserve............but I do hear several are getting the letters from D1 schools.....they just don't like all the hype and then a potential let down if it doesn't work out..........We all know playing at the D1 level happens to very few players.....looks of players receive letters and invitations to the schools elite camps, but the school may invite 30-40 kids to their elite camp with only 2 or 3 scholarship spots to fill.

Well, seems everyone is pumped about the State AAU tourney, but truth be known, even if it was another weekend, the top AAU players would be in other tournaments, that may be more important than the State AAU and playing teams that are more competitive than what they play at the State AAU level. Not to downplay the State AAU tourney, but that's reality. No matter when you have it, there will be conflicts. If the have it during the week, won't the students be in school?

I find that hard to believe since he is a Junior, tore his ACL last year, out most of the season and still has approximately 2 weeks before the docs will release him to play. Don't understand why a school would make an offer when they don't know how he will come back from the injury. Didn't know D1s could make offers (other than verbals) to a Junior. Seems to be a nice kid, saw him play some last summer. wasn't a starter on his AAU team last year.

Good and/or excellent high school player does not always equate to a good D1 player, even for a low D1 school. And why do most of you seem to only look at points scored in evaluating a player with D1 potential. I question if some of these players play defense at the intensity and with the defensive skills and knowledge that are required at the D1 level.....If you score 20 points but give up 20 pts on the defensive end, what have you accomplished? College coaches do look at points scored, but I also have been told that is one of the LAST stats they look at. They want a player with the all round game and the body to go with the position. It takes a very high skill set to make it at the D1 level. I heard that out of the class of 2008, only 10 KY boys ended up at D1 schools and some of those have now transferred to other non-D1 schools............. It will be interesting to see what happens with the classes of 2009 and 2010.

It is by invitation. The invitations were sent to the players high school coach.
