To call Don Owen’s work lazy journalism is pull silliness. He has mentioned Brent in other articles. As rjs4470 referenced, NKY does not always include the south 10th region. The research he did on each of the kids was rather detailed. Send me the link to the Maysville journal about the other NKY kids mentioned in this article and we can chat. I’ve followed Bach and have been one of his biggest supporters. He had a great career and glad to see him blossom this year.

Ivy League schools do not offer athletic scholarships, but if you are a stud athlete with good grades, you can get in easier than a non athlete.

Blessed to have a child get a full ride in D2 basketball. Roughly $40 grand a year. Never expected it or thought it would ever happen. We never had a master plan to try to make it hapen. He turned down offers to play on elite teams in the summer and elected to play with his friends instead. Part of the reason for the scholarship (and I have said this comment before) was due to good grades in High school. It was always our main focus. This school was able to combine academic qualifications wth the 10 split scholarships they have. He will graduate in 4 years and just yesterday announced he made the all conference academic honor roll again. The experience of the team and the ability to go to a school that would have never been on his radar was fantastic. He fully understands how rare the opportunity was and made the most of it.

Yeah, I posted a pic of dad in the other thread from 1976. Looks like he coached at least 2 teams that year. He made me shovel the parking lot at St. Anthony so we could practice. Great family and I wish the best for Ralph Jr.

Interesting timing of this topic. I was speaking with my son this weekend about the level of play of woman's ball. He said UCONN practiced at their gym in the '16 season. He said Breanna Stewart could hold her own against most men. She was the real deal. That being said, not sure as a unit they could beat a very good mens HS team. In college I played against a very good D2 womans team with a bunch of other random hacks. We lost the first game to the girls team. After we figured out how to shoot the small ball and how to defend them, it was all she wrote for the gals.
