Ryle played Highlands twice this past season. The speed with precise execution doesn't get much better than what they faced there.

Who has the better frosh/soph class between Ryle and Cooper?

Coach downs is an extremely good coach that gets more out of a player than I have seen from many coaches in the area. It would be nice to see him as a head coach at any NK high school because he allows the kids to play their game and you either perform or you sit regardless of your class level. I know his AAU always competed at the state level against good competition.

Boone should have fouled on the floor before the 3 was shot at the end of regulation. Might have prevented OT at all. Free throw shooting by Boone was horrible, I bet they didn't shot 40% from the line. Popp fouling out in the middle of the 4th didn't help them either. T. Brown had about 20 and I believe Popp followed him with about 12. A few of the St. Henry players had about 15, #22 and #24. I think it was #3 or #5 that hit several free throws in OT to seal the deal. It was not a well played game, but a lot of energy from the fans both ways, particularly yelling about the calls from the ref's, it was sort of entertaining.

Looked like Boone was in a 1-3-1 for a while too, may have been when it was easier to hit the 3 from the side. I wonder what their % was from the floor, the usual shots that would fall for Gabbard and Popp weren't going in last night. Brown had to sit a good bit of the 3rd and 4th quarters due to foul trouble, seemed to have an impact without Earls or Lay to share the post time last night.

Correct - you misread it. D1 schools are not always the elite Notre Dames and "BIG NAME" schools. My statement was "if Boone had 3 D1 receivers". You would be surprised by how many NKY kids could be D1 if they had the correct guidance academically and athletically. It's not the high school coaches responsibility to get these kids into colleges athletically, it's mainly up to the kids and their parents. Shawn Bogle, Merceir Doucette and Cory Farris are just 3 names from Boone that had D1 potential. For Bogle maybe not at QB, but the kid was a pure athlete. And with all of the rushing yards that BC backs have acquired throughout the years, you can't tell me that not one of their O-linemen is not D1 material. D1 is achievable by any athlete in NKY, EKY or WKY. You just have to excell at your position and the aggresively promote yourself to college coaches. Back to the thread subject, I think next year, Cooper will have almost just as much talent as Boone, and maybe Conner definately in the backfield and at the wide receiver positions. Last years final with CC was 20-28, a fairly close game for the Jags that could have gone their way. So, there is a good chance for Cooper to improve and slip into the playoffs. I think the BC game will come down to coaching talent, and I won't say who I'm putting my money on.

Yes they had talent on the offensive side of the ball. If you think that defense was talented, I can only laugh. A majority of the year Boone kept Fookes, Oppenheimer, Quainoo, and Brown strictly on offense. That alone is four talented football players that can make a difference on your defense, and don't give me that story of "they had to stay fresh for offense". if your QB can go both ways, you can at least use these guys occasionally on defense. I did not bad mouth the offensive players, but maybe the offensive coordinator or head coach. The players can only do what they are put into position to do. Combine Coopers next years Senior class with the upcoming JV and sophs and IMO they will surprise some teams and possibly win more than the naysayers think.

Cooper should challenge and possibly beat Boone and CC this year. If I'm not mistaking Boone couldn't even bring down a tackling dummy this past season!

Actually I don't feel slighted at all because I am neither a player nor a coach. I am just voicing my opinion. Forgive us for talking about the "STYLE" of play whether it be HH vs Dixie, BC or whoever. People tend to misread into others posts and get all wadded up, and that I understand considering the enviroment. So enough said about this :deadhorse:

Did not see the game Tuesday, so I can't compare and give MY opinion. I never said anyone was "cheating" that's talking like a 2 year old! If you feel the game last year was strictly Highlands outplaying Boone, then that's your opinion. You are correct in saying Boone was not ready for such a physical type game, but if basketball is played like that, then we should start issuing out helmets and shoulder pads to play the game. And, as I said earlier, just because you like the style, it doesn't make it legal. As I recall, Shields was told he would never ref another BC game again, that alone says enough.

You are correct, Highlands has played that style since I have been watching them, but just because that's their style of play, it doesn't mean the refs have to make it legal play. There is a limit to rough play.

I did not say that the Dixie/Highlands game was not physical on both ends, I know Mr.Pike will not allow anyone to push him around without getting his licks in. I was referring to a game last year where it got so out of hand that a normally subdued coach nearly lost it completely and fans were about to come out of the bleachers.

For some reason Highlands is allowed to play the rough game when at home. Last year against BC it was outrageous. One BC kid was sent out of the game with a severely busted nose (and no foul was called), and a couple of others were beat up on some hard fouls. Was Shields one of the refs again for the Dixie game? I am all for a little rough style play, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

It's not impossible to know. It simple common since that when you have a mass of talent surrounding/supporting you, your chances and opportunities for success increase greatly. Simpson and Collinsworth are both excellent athletes and deserve every accolade thrown at them. Question is would they be as noticeable in a fairly new program like Cooper. A great line can make any half decent back shine.

I agree, the kid worked hard with what they have at Cooper in young talent. Put him behind a Highlands or Simon Kenton O-line and he would do just as well if not better than their backs. This is exactly what I mean by this association not having a clue about true talent.
