Final.

Highlands sealed the deal at the line down the stretch. Good game by both teams.

^^Indeed.

Grote didn't play tonight. He was complaining of dizziness yesterday at practice and went and saw a doctor today to see if he had a concussion or not. Sat on the bench in street clothes.

WAY TO GO BIRDS!!!

Very physical game both teams were hacking at eachother. Birds need a healthy Grote and more Tyler Grubbs he seemed to have been the difference the latter part of the fourth quarter completely took Pike out of the game both mentally and physically using his big body and muscle.:taz:

Birds will have to step it up Friday with Mason Co. coming to town

Ol' Willie would love this score.

Different coach same style!

Birds got the big win in a heated environment. The game had the feel of a Regional Tourney game. Dixie kept it close with solid defense and good free throw shooting. Highlands missed over 10 freebies for sure. Grubbs seems more physical this year. His battle with Pike on the block was worth the 5 bucks to get in. Watson had some big 2nd half buckets after a slow start. Kowolonek can get to the rim and is strong but left 5 or 6 pts at the charity stripe. Birds were shorthanded with Grote out at the guard spot. Credit the Colonels for getting after it on the defensive end. Brandon Hatton has really filled out and does not look like an 8th grader. He had great composure tonight and hit a real tough shot in the lane late along with a big 3. That kid is going to be an All Stater by the time he is a JR IMO.

Congrats to Coach Flynn and staff for the first home victory in front of a pretty rowdy crowd. Nice turnout by the student body.

Great game by both teams. Appears as if both teams had players out tonight. Trammel was also on the bench in Dixie gear not playing at all tonight. Highlands is going to be a tough team to beat this year. This is the best I have seen Dixie play thus far. They battled the whole entire game. The teams were tied at the end of the third quarter. It was a very physical fourth quarter. The bluebirds just had too much for Dixie to handle in the last two minutes. Congrats to the Bluebirds!

At times it looked very physical. Jack Stewart, the thin 6'6 Jr for the Birds might need a back brace today for all the forearm chucks he took while posting up. The Smith kid for Dixie made a couple tackles and Pike and Grubbs was pure entertainment.

Big time effort by Dixie with Trammel in not playing!

I think basketball was more fun to watch when it was a finesse game. It almost got out of control in the 4th all the pushing on defense. It really does take away from the offensive game. That's why the games are in the 40's anymore.

Yep, I had my son with me last night and told him that is why you hit the weights and eat the protein. The Varsity game is much more physical then when I played. The refs were letting a ton go last night. Maybe that will help the region teams when they get downstate.

One other thing I noticed is the difference in how they played man to man vs the past years. Coach Flynn looks to be demanding they fight through picks and the switch defense that the Birds have played in the past is no more. This I am sure will take some getting used to. I thought they still played tough nose to belly defense.

The Sauna/crackerbox in Ft Thomas. Next time you are there check out the side backboards which date back to the 60's. I'm still waiting for someone to break there neck on a fastbreak layup considering they have 2 feet of space to the wall. Its embarrassing to say the least.

Wow really surprised that Highlands did not beat Dixie more than this considering Trammel did not play.
