Wow really surprised that Highlands did not beat Dixie more than this considering Trammel did not play.

Understood, but Trammel is a much more important part to Dixie's team. Not taking anything away from Grote, but Highlands has the players to replace his role on the team. Dixie I do not think can do that as easily with Trammel

Dixies players stepped up last night and played in your face defense. This should have been a 15 pt win if the Birds hit half the 10 or so FTs they missed.

I will be very surprised if any team scores 60+ vs Highlands.

I thought Hatton did a good job stepping into Trammels place. He had great composure for being a 14 year old kid. I thought it was a good game. The fourth quarter was somewhat out of control. There were alot of elbows thrown by both teams. It was extremely physical. I think that Dixie stayed in there so long until the last two minutes because of the physical aspect of the game. Dixies' talent is not up to Highlands, but they are physical. I think Highlands will have an excellent year ahead of them.

I agree 100% here. Why didn't Trammel play?

I believe Trammel was injured.

Really... who??? :idunno: Highlands has some nice players coming off the bench but when Big Dog is on he's one of the best in the region. Even when he's not playing his best he's still one of the fiercest compeitors that you'll find. Can't comment on the Trammel kid don't know him. Grote's a pretty good all around player he was missed alot especially with all the pushing and shoving that was going on. He's very strong and tough, tough customer.

Get Well Soon George!!! we need you to make this run

Take any team's first or second best player out of the line-up and it hurts but Highlands has the depth and perserverence to overcome those obsticles

At times it looked very physical. Jack Stewart, the thin 6'6 Jr for the Birds might need a back brace today for all the forearm chucks he took while posting up. The Smith kid for Dixie made a couple tackles and Pike and Grubbs was pure entertainment.

How did Jack Stewart play in the game? Is he getting a lot of minutes with all them Seniors?

I would say that Highlands bench is deeper than Dixie's, therefore, missing Trammel would be a bigger loss for Dixie, than missing Grote for Highlands. However, both are very nice players, Im sure both teams missed them.

I didnt see the game, but I would have liked to see Hatton fill in Trammel's spot. I know Hatton usually plays the 2 and Trammel the 1. To me, Hatton seems to lack a bit of the quickness that Trammel has. Glad to hear he filled the role nicely, and yes, he is a very good player for 14 or 15 years old.

Stewart started the game at Center but got in foul trouble early. He got the ball on the block early and took it right at Wes Smith the 6'5 290lb post player and scored. He has nice moves but will need to put on some more weight before he graduates to be a dominant post player.

As far as Hatton goes, he may be an 8th grader by class (holdback) but he certainly has the body of a Sr already. I wonder if that is all the growing he will do or if he will get taller. He has a high basketball IQ and doesnt make a lot of mistakes like a normal 14/15 yr old would. I think the high level AAU ball he plays has really been a benefit to him and that is why he has done well so far at the varsity level.

One time though Mr. Kowolonek welcomed him to VArsity basketball by blowing right by him and laying it in. It was a thing of beauty but Hatton made a nice attempt at defending him.

Trammel is an absolute stud point guard when he is healthy. Trammel has been dealing with some back pain since summer ball this past year, from what I've heard it a "Herniated Disc" So I think Coach Chevy is trying to get him healthy for when the big district games down the road count.

Trammel has trumendous quickness, and ball handling ability and I would say is one of the better point guards in this area when he is healthy!

Grote on the other hand is a great player he is good off the bounce and has a little more strength to his game, Highlands is already deep I don't think him playing in that game would have made a a huge difference in the way the Dixie not have Trammel makes.

I hope both players get healthy and back on the court soon!

Hatton definately doesn't carry a body of a 14 year old. I was speaking with his dad at the game, he won't be fifteen until the end of April. Hopefully for his sake this is not all the growing he will do. I agree that his AAU ball playing definately has helped preparing him for Varsity basketball. If this boy continues on the track he is on now, watch out in the next two years. I think Dixie struggled some but not nearly as one would have thought having Trammel out. Again I was seriously impressed with Hatton's composure at point. Trammel however is one of the better pgs in the area. Hopefully he will get well soon and back on the court for Dixie.

I do agree that Highlands losing Grote for the night was not a deal breaker for them by any means. They have a ton of talent in their starters as well as on the bench. Dixie just doesn't have the same talent. They are a tough, physical team but they just don't seem to be able to finish on top.

Good points Hoosierdaddy. I hate to hear about Trammel having disc problems at such a young age. Those things definitely require rest and I'm sure its very frustrating. Grote has had his share of frustrations as well most recently with the injury in football and now the concussion symptoms. These are 2 fantastic players who I hope get healthy real soon so we can see both teams at complete full strength.
