Sorry to hear that either player is loosing time due to injury. Seems to be so much more common in younger kids these days. Good luck to both of them.

The Sauna/crackerbox in Ft Thomas. Next time you are there check out the side backboards which date back to the 60's. I'm still waiting for someone to break there neck on a fastbreak layup considering they have 2 feet of space to the wall. Its embarrassing to say the least.

One BC kid was sent out of the game with a severely busted nose (and no foul was called), and a couple of others were beat up on some hard fouls. Was Shields one of the refs again for the Dixie game? Just because some of the other teams like Boone doesn't play as physical, doesn't mean that Highlands is out there doing something wrong.

 

If you want to see a horrible no call, watch the Lex. Christian/GRC game on wazoo from last year. Cory Rogers got his nose BROKEN and there was no foul called.

Going to have to disagree on this one......caught the game and Dixie was every bit as aggressive as Highlands, this game was physical. Some teams like it, some don't..........these two obviously did.

I did not say that the Dixie/Highlands game was not physical on both ends, I know Mr.Pike will not allow anyone to push him around without getting his licks in. I was referring to a game last year where it got so out of hand that a normally subdued coach nearly lost it completely and fans were about to come out of the bleachers.

You are correct, Highlands has played that style since I have been watching them, but just because that's their style of play, it doesn't mean the refs have to make it legal play. There is a limit to rough play.

I personally see nothing wrong with the way they play.

 

Every team gets physical at times. When you have big bodies down low trying to gain position, it's going to get a little rough. Just becaue a player gets touched doesn't mean a foul needs to be called. Be thankful the refs call the way they do. It helps our 9th region rep. down state in March.

Sorry, saw the Boone game last year too and it was not near as physical as the game Tuesday w/Dixie. You seem to be insinuating that physical play is somehow cheating and by inference that Boone got screwed last year. In that game Highlands just outplayed Boone and as I recall the only technical foul was on McFarland. To their credit, Boone returned the favor in the Regional game and outplayed Highlands. As I stated earlier, some like the physical style, some don't.........

Not to mention the hand checking that was going on by the Dixie guards. But you'd better believe that if you can dish it out you'd better be prepared to take it in return.

I will have to disagree about Dixie dishing out more than Highlands until the fourth. Don't get me wrong Dixie was dishing out but I think this was about as even physical game as you can get. That is mo of course. I saw alot of elbows being thrown on both sides. I think that Highlands always plays physical and Dixie will turn it on physically in a need be case. I do believe the refs should not allow games to get out of hand physically. I don't think Tuesday's night game got out of hand. I think both teams got their fair licks in and that the refs did not favor either side. I thought it was a great game and showed Highlands could finish. Dixie just doesn't have that staying power in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.

 

I will agree Dixie took a ton of f/t shots in the first quarter.

Dixie was in the bonus and my friend said there was still 11 minutes to be played in the half. So lets see.......that means they were in the bonus with 3 min left in the 1st. : )

 

It was 7 fouls to 2 called in favor of Dixie early on. I thought the Dixie guards were trying to assert themselves with a lot of in your face defense, hand checking, etc. The best way to get a guy off of you is to blow by him or swing the ball from side to side and crack down on their forearms with an elbow. Trust me, it doesnt feel good but you have to have strong guards who can do this. Kowolonek has beefed up and he was very strong with the ball out front. Lother is not as strong and he tried to keep his distance from that type of defense which was smart. Gordon never really seemed to get into the game, probably just an off night for him. Grote, if he would have played, would have no problem with the physical defense that Dixie was applying. He is very strong and loves to take his man off the dribble.

 

I applaud the Colonels gameplan which was to try and match the Birds at their own game, however, talent won in the end. I would love to see these two teams play again at full strength with Grote and Trammell in the lineup.

Sorry this "2 year old" has made points beyond your comprehension. The topic is the play of the Dixie/Highlands game from Tue. You continue to feel slighted about the loss at HHS last yr and again...what exactly is "illegal" about that style of play. Don't know Shields......don't care, the officials job is to call the game. If its physical and they allow it it is completely within the rules. (BTW the helmet/shoulder pads didn't fare to well for Boone either...just an observation)

 

Boone got outplayed at Highlands...Boone reversed it at regionals, I commend them for that. TUESDAY the game was physical by both teams and Highlands won that game......it's not anybody's fault, it just happened that way.

 

They all get to play again........smile !:jump:
