  1. Not sure I agree on the downturn. They played a fine second half against Morgan Wednesday. The first wasn't bad either. Morgan simply couldn't miss! I just feel Elliott's talent and athleticism will take this one over pretty early in the game.
  2. I'm told that Lakin griffith finished the game with 1,999 career points. 2,000 will come early next week I am sure. Congratulations.:notworthy:
  3. I could be wrong, but I believe Elliott will try to make a statement out of this game that the previous close game was not indicative of their talent level. They will be running and gunning, as usual, and try to put this one away early.
  4. I've observed him in many games not involving Ashland over the years and he is no better or worse than many others in the 16th region. However, when he gets the opportunity to call Ashland's games, it is a wholly different story. I also think he now has a very hard time keeping up with the pace of the game.
  5. Classic! I was not at this game, however, in general, many of us graybeards in the region of known for years that particular official should just put on a maroon jersey when the game started to aviod him being mistaken for a referee.
  6. As usual, you got it exactly right, my friend. The players on both teams put out maximum effort and east played the way many of us thouoght they could all season. Jackson and Barnhill could not have been better. Elliott continually drove to the basket leading to the foul shots. One official was absolutely horrendous (both ways) while the other two did a good job. Officiating did not determine the outcome of the game. Incidentally, what a great atmosphere for a high school game. the gym was packed and vocal for each team. Elliott survived a tough game with arguably the second best team in the region on that team's home floor. Survive and advance is all that matters now.
  7. Shooter, I never said the coverage was not reasonable. My reponse was to your questionavle statement regarding the caliber of teams played at the BBC. I am still waiting for an explanation in light of each team's current record and ranking in their respective states.
  8. I agree with the "fact" that Elliott hasn't won a state tournament and that there were excellent teams at the BBC and it is clear those are the only "facts" you have confronted me with. A fact you are ignoring is the post BBC records of the teams beaten as well as the pre BBC record of the Pickering.
  9. I think he is referring to the conference schedule and champion. They meet on Saturday.
  10. You got to be kidding! I do not care at all whether ADI covers any games. I understand their situation and I go to all of them anyway, and I understand many, including you obviously have a dislike for Elliott County, but let's try to base our posts on some semblance of fact. Those were all excellent teams and their records since the BBC prove it as well as they way thaey played in the tournament. :idunno::ohbrother::ohbrother::ohbrother:
  11. Ferguson with 22, Faulkners 18 apiece, and Timmy Knipp with 16. Elliott had a 30+ lead at halftime and cruised. Russell has some good young talent and will be a solid team in the future. Skaggs nailed some open outside shots and was impressive. Russell's guards just couldn't handle the pressure when Elliott trapped and there were a few strips from the point guard by Ethan Faulkner at midcourt.
  12. Very classy of Russell to recognize him and award him a plaque before the game!
  13. According to ADI, official scorekeeper made a mistake and denied GC 1 point. Fraley was very gracious in his interview, basically saying mistakes happen.
  14. Holmes is too low. Now, that I have said that, who cares about these rankings now? It is an opinion. A solid case can be made for Scott County, Holmes, Elliott County, Eastern and probably Shelby Valley depending on your point of view. The point is they are all good teams with each very capable of winning, or losing in Rupp.
  15. From the Herald Leader: Elliott Co. 89 Ballard 75 Ballard 23 15 20 17 75 Elliott Co. 27 23 18 21 89 Ballard (20-6) -- Cox 14, Chiles 21, Dowell 4, Perkins 2, Jones 26, Hardin 3, Dickerson 1, Means 4. Elliott Co. (24-2) -- Et. Faulkner 19, Ev. Faulkner 13, C. Knipp 5, T. Knipp 18, Ferguson 34.
  16. Not much left to say after Lion Mania's excellent post. That sums up a fantastic senior class! Allow me to thank Ballard for joining us for this game. The players and fans showed class and sportmanship making for one of the best evenings of high school basketball I have ever been privileged to watch. These teams put on a show. The first quarter was probably one of the best I have ever seen and then the battle was on for the rest of the game. Timmy Knipp answered many questions tonight. He more than held his own on the inside defensively and rebounded well. Jacob Ison has developed into the inside sub Elliott really needed to give Knipp some breathers. The Faulkners applied some big time pressure to Ballard's guards (who can flat out play) and also handled heavy defensive pressure quite well, and Ferguson was on fire. What is sometimes overshadowed by his outside shooting is his strength and ability to score inside as well. This was a great atmosphere for a high school game that will be remembered around here for many years.
  17. East played great defense in the second half. I don't know what happened to Fairview. They acted like the had never seen a basketball before. Very poor performance. The first half was pretty sloppy by both teams, but the Raiders recovered to play a decent second half offensively. Fairview could barely get the ball to half court against the press in the second half.
  18. Morgan just appealed to the KHSAA and the game will start with the score Morgan 14 West Carter 0 and the Cougars will be allowed 6 players on the floor at all times.
  19. It is going to be a great game between two great teams in a wonderful atmosphere. I am not predicting a winner. I think it will be close in a game that only matters in the sense it will help each team prepare for the post season. I am looking forward to some good high school basketball that should be very entertaining based upon the syle of play employed by both schools.
  20. That point differential system is used in pool play all summer in virtually eevry AAU tournament to determine seeding. However, I believe in a regular season that only leads to teams running up the score. The winning percentage angle only promotes weal scheduling. Both of those ideas were poorly thought out. The only way to decide it fairly in the future is head to head meetings followed by a blind draw if a tie still exists and I am told that is the new system.
  21. Those may be the facts as spun by some at the meeting. Others at the meeting give a different version of the facts. I guess it depends on who you choose to listen to. I really have no dog in the fight. One fact we can all agree on is that changes have been put in place to keep this unfortunate set of circumstances fromm happening again. It is truly a shame that the tie breaker rules were so poorly thought out and written to begin with.
  22. I still do not see the home cooking angle. East Carter did not make the decision, the KHSAA did. There was no tie breaker system for three teams according to our newest member. It seems funny that all of the other schools knew the intent of the rule was to break any tie except for Morgan County. They also refused a playoff game to decide it. I suppose they feel their best shot at going to the Regional lies in a coin toss and not competition. Go Radio is exactly right...sportsmanship has died.
