  1. Trinity's lines will be tested severly this week by the power of Cincy X. This game will give a true indication of the 2010 Trinity team.
  2. Cincy St. X's defense dominated X like no one I can remember. Offensively Hundley is a talent and #36 the tight end caught about 8 balls to keep moving the chains. The tight end is 6'3" and about 230lbs and is a beast. He was really tagged on every catch but with his strength and power it took 2 -3 defenders to bring him down. They are so solid defensively, should be interesting against Trinity. They play a 3 - 3- 5 and always bring someone based on the formation, you just don't know from where. Trinity's quick passing game will help. The linebacker #8 Daniels is fun to watch roam....he makes plays everywhere.
  3. Actually Brohm and McMurry have been hurt since the last scrimmage. Beach (shoulder) and Oliver (concussion) were added to the injury list last night. Hayden and Mattingly both missed school last week with the stomach bug that is going around. They were not intentionally holding out starters. The positive is that they are slowly building some quality depth which will pay off throughout the year. There were a few times last night when the backfield playing was not one mentioned by anyone in the preseason. The backups really stepped up and did their job.
  4. Any idea on who is starting at QB for the Tigers against LexCath? I think this offense has the potential to be very potent when McMurry returns. They gained almost 350 yards against a capable Ballard defense last week. I liked the wishbone lineup in the greenzone with Beach, Hayden and Daylen Hall. Add McMurry to this list and you have a slew of playmakers for a defense to stop. Goodwin made some nice catches. Mattingly's speed allowed him to get to the corner to stretch the defense. The OLine did a respectable job all night. Yes, currently a work in progress without Lamont, but the potential is there for a quick striking offense again this year.
  5. Friday night at St. Xavier. What's your take on this one?
  6. Both teams were cramping. It was a very long game 3+ hours in total.
  7. The injuries did effect the X offense. In the previous scrimmages LaMont and Jay have both been huge weapons. Jay was incredible, never did I think he could be such a workhorse with 30+ carries and 164 yards. Ballard's defense really tagged him several times. Losing LaMont definitely cost X some points as they may not have settled for field goals early on. It's a shame LaMont missed this game as there was an impressive group of D-1 talent such as Parker, Hardin and Hall on the field. These guys all made fantastic plays tonight! Brohm was injured and only attempted about three passes. Mattingly filled in quite well at QB. Great early season game for both teams, they will learn a lot from such an early season matchup. Nice to see these coaches will schedule tough ones early to find out what they need to work on.
  8. Yes, 8 catches for 146 yards. No TD's. Final score was 35-6 Xavierians. Many people on this board are predicting a much closer game this year.
  9. I would think that a game of this magnitude the coaches will not want to let out any information regarding starters, injuries or any other pertinent facts prior to kickoff.
  10. Fern Creek needs to ranked above Henry Clay after seeing both teams scrimmage against St. X. Fern Creek is much further along at this point. Plenty of talent on the Creek squad.
  11. Final - X 41 Fern Creek 10 Well played scrimmmage by both teams for so early in August. Fern Creek has some top notch athletes on offense.
  12. That and maybe their GPA's were too high!
  13. Amen to this TAlum...it's only a scrimmate in the second week of August, nothing more. People will spin it toward their point of view. But it is only a competitive practice session between two teams whose coaches want to find out what kids can play....
  14. It's only a scrimmage! Teams have only been in equipment a few days. Let's not read that much into it. It's a long way to the first Saturday in December.
  15. I think Vic Anderson has shown he would have been a tremendous Mr. Football. He and Beaumont were a close race!
  16. I am not sure what Ryle has coming back, but I saw them lose to St. X. 66 - 17 in the second round of the playoffs. Hopefully they wil put up a better effort against Highlands.
  17. I think we need to give him some time to prove himself. Terry Bean coached great defenses at Oldham County, St. X., and Trinity. Seems like today everyone anoints the newcomer as the greatest. Only one Greatest in our lifetime and his name is ALI.
  18. Maybe if you negotiated a little harder they might have sold it to you for a nickel!! Just kidding.
  19. I think the offensive line needs to jell, plus a bigger back to take some of the load off speedsters LaMont McMurry and Jay Hayden. Michael Montano will be missed. He could take a hit and still pick up the necessary first down yardage. He also had the speed to break a long run such as the 80-90 yarder for a late TD against Simon Kenton to seal that playoff game.
  20. I agree totally! Too many first round games end with 60 to 70 point victories over 1-9 and 0-10 teams. These games are a joke. The coaches, players and fans know it. When will the KHSAA eliminate five rounds for the playoffs? The everybody deserves a trophy mentality doesn't work in football!
  21. So who will be the main contenders if you do not think the Rocks will win #20 this year?
