Fishhead

Based on a check of the numbers for the 90's, 00's and 10's, Campbell County set a record for wins in a decade last week against Dixie. They were 43-66 in the 90's, 43-61 in the 00's and 43-51 in the 10's before last week. If nothing else, that's trending upward. Just found it interesting.

This is a JV game. These kids are looking to catch the eye of a coach to move up on the depth chart. Can they do that if they're not playing hard?

Nothing unusual about that. Campbell has always been blessed with size, even in my day they had huge kids. They've had talent and speed at times as well. Consistency has been the issue out there. Up one season, down the next. They're the only 6A team in Northern Kentucky never to have a state finals appearance.

Week 1.

They're surrounded by football power with CovCath and Beechwood a short drive away. Simon Kenton and Scott, which used to be NKY doormats, are suddenly viable football options for Kenton County kids. Not sure what is in the mix at Dixie, but they don't appear to be doing themselves any favors.

This is what I was expecting. I thought Lickert was just a coach looking for a group of kids to buy in. Looks like he may have found it in NewCath. I expected it to be Campbell County, but I don't know if the coach exists that can wake the sleeping giant.

Really impressed with Highlands defense last night. They never let the Cooper QB have a moments peace and for the most part seemed to give up yards grudgingly. Offense wasn't firing on all cylinders, but fired enough to make life unpleasant for Cooper. The game next week against Campbell should be interesting.

I went to Coach King's funeral last year. They had quite a bit of memorabilia on hand including a state championship trophy. Very cool stuff to a high school football addict.
