Below is the information I know about what happened with the accident and Brian's injuries. I debated on posting this information because I don't want to take away from the prayer requests or the updates on Brian. However, after consulting with a few people, I've decided to post it so people can see what made a bad situation even worse. Brian was a passenger in a car with 4 other people. He was sitting in the back middle seat of the car (with only a lap belt). The driver was drunk and hit a tree. The driver and 3 other passengers fled from the scene, leaving Brian behind and not calling 911. It was 5 hours before the wreck (and Brian) were found. Brian had passed out due to the injuries, a cut open stomach and both of his colons being cut. In the 5 hours before he was discovered, hypothermia set in and he had a liter of blood in his stomach. He has undergone two surgeries and is in a medically induced coma to allow for healing. Police may have the name of the driver but are hoping Brian can provide the names of the other passengers when he wakes up. Continued prayers for Brian and his family.

I thought a 15 yard facemask was considered a personal foul and those were automatic first downs? Maybe HS is different.

I believe the facemask is a personal foul which is automatic first down. I think any facemask these days is a 15 yarder and automatic first down.

No automatic 1st down on the running call either, correct?

Makes it worse that the other kids fled and didn't call 911. Made the situation much worse for Brian with the delay in medical attention.

Prayers for Brian, the Haughey family, and the CCH community. Brian is a terrific kid and his family are great people. Please pray hard for him. Things do not look good at the moment.

I was referring to the Dixie sideline penalty. I couldn't tell what happened on the HHS one as I was blocked. But I did hear others say it was questionable at best.

I thought there was a running into/roughing distinction in HS. If not, then I have no qualms with the call as there was contact. Now if there is a distinction between the two, it should've been running into IMO. The receivers moving were right in front of me. Slot receiver moved first then the outside receiver did. Both before the snap. May have been a weak PI call but it was contact before the ball got there and the Dixie receiver was prevented from getting to the spot. My biggest gripe about that play is the back judge pulled the flag out and then just held it. Sideline penalty, very questionable which is why Coach Brossart took a TO to address it with the white hat who even went over and addressed it with the side judge after the fact. I agree there were questionable calls both ways. Pointed out the ones on Dixie because those are the ones I remember most as that's the team I was supporting. Lots of thrown flags by the crew that were head scratchers. As I said, they didn't change the outcome. HHS was the better team.

If you're talking to me, please refute what I said instead of just throwing mindless quips out.

Congrats to HHS. The better team won. Good luck against CCH. Now please note what I am about to say, did not affect the outcome... I thought the officiating was terrible. First drive for HHS, Dixie holds them. HHS goes to punt and a Dixie player runs into the punter. Penalty? Yes. Roughing? Not in my opinion. The Dixie player hit him upright when he couldn't stop. The Highland's punter sold it very well. He ended up with the roughing call. Then the next play after that penalty, two receivers on the left side jump before the snap but no flag. Plays goes for a TD. Dixie bench got flagged for a sideline unsportsmanlike penalty for asking the line judge "can you watch #2? He's been flinching before the snap all game." A PI call on HHS was overlooked early on. The back judge pulled his flag out and then just held it in his hand. Once again, the refs didn't affect the outcome of the game. They were just awful.

7:00 according to the KHSAA scoreboard. I thought it was 7:30 but I may be wrong. No idea of feeds.

I'm just hoping for a great game and both teams to leave it on the field.

They passed and they passed a lot. Morgan was very good when he had time. When pressured is when he struggled. Dixie had atleast 2 INTs and they both came on passes where Morgan was under pressure. Game was 17-14 with about 8 minutes left in the 4th. Dixie got down the field but stalled out. They attempted a FG to tie it (short yardage FG) but the kick was blocked (3rd placekick that was affected on the night - 2 blocked, 1 tipped but still converted) and the ball shot off towards the Dixie sideline. Looked like it would go out of bounds but made a left turn and bounced into the hands of a Ryle player who was in stride. He took it to the house to make it 24-14. Not sure how the final 7 were scored for Ryle. Dixie lost the wind in their sails after the blocked FG was returned.

Then you would know the whistle was not blown at 5 minutes. The two timers with me both showed the same. 5:11.

How? By not blowing his whistle when the chime on his watch goes over. Why? No idea. Possibly not wanting to stop an attack but he couldn't let it go too long? Again, I have no idea. Yes, I was timing. I can assure you he did not.

There would be no guessing on the CR's part as part of the countdown includes 0. So as the announcer announces "3, 2, 1, 0" it's obvious when the time expires. And you are correct that the ball was put in the net right after the whistle. However, the whistle was blown at 5:11. The whistle should've blown 11 seconds prior to when it did but the official kept the game going for some reason. Last night there was one person dedicated to just the clock.

On the clock situation. I am not sure why the clock was not kept on the board after the first half. Yes the horn was inoperable but the announcer counted down the last 10 seconds (as requested by the CR) so even without the horn or looking at the board, the CR should've known when the clock expired. In the second half there was the stoppage for the yellow card but clocked was stopped when the CR signaled and restarted when the CR signal. There was no delay in either operations. Then in both OT periods there were no stoppages so the clock was right on (just like the 1st half). There was no reason for the CR to keep official time on the field other than him wanting to be in control of possessions and opportunities as time wound down.
