Wow !!! Helmet to helmet and QB was down. #92 should have been ejected !! The block in the back on the punt return could have also been called a cheap shot.

We were on the field after the game and I didn't see any celebrations.

I think the announcer at the pit said split the pot was around $1700 . Does that sound about right ? :lol: Hmmmmm , let's see , crowd number was about 10,000 , you make the call.

Without checking the rushing stats , I would think Austin Collinsworth had over 1,000 yards rushing in 2009 .

Dale made a great adjustment to the defense that many people didn't notice . I won't go into details but it had a huge impact in keeping Elder out of the endzone in the second half. The officials had a hand in the first half success of Elder. There was an interception by the Birds from the Elder QB , that was clearly an interception , but the refs had to huddle to discuss it. If they would have overturned that call there may have been a riot by the Highlands fans. Then on a punt return by Elder , an Elder player blocked in the back of Highlands player that everyone in the joint saw , a flag was thrown , I'm surprized the Highlands player didn't have a whip lash injury. Could have been called flagrant , in my opinion. Then Highlands got held by Elder 2 yards in front of official with the white hat , no call but the HHS player could have cried rape after his jersey was almost pulled off. The officiating wasn't great but I have seen worse. The best thing that I saw in this game was that Highlands was down 17-7 after losing their D1 QB to injury, they didn't give up and fought like pitbulls to win the game. Just another great Highlands team !!! Great job young men !!

If you didn't go to the game you missed a good one. I just got back from the pit. I was a little disappointed when I got there . I had a reserved seat ticket along with the others I was with. So, we thought we would get to Price Hill early and get something to eat and killed lots of time doing so. Then when we got to the pit we found out the joke was on us as we were lucky to even get a seat. As far as the game goes , great win for the birds. The D Birds played mad tonight and the running backs and wide recievers for Elder were getting pounded and gang tackled on every play. The Elder players were hurting but stayed in the game. The Birds were laying the wood all night long. Elder players made some hard hits too , but the Birds had more of them. The offensive line played great giving ample time for the HHS QB's to find the open recievers. The players that needed to step , did an outstanding job. Late in the game when HHS needed first downs to run out the clock , again players got it done. In closing , I think I said this would be a war . This was one of the most physical high school games that I have ever seen. Elder is the best 2-7 team that I have ever seen. On the way home the Elder radio announcer said that the last time Elder lost to a northern Ky team was back in 1966. It was Newport Catholic (now NCC) who was also included back then in the GCL.

Both teams have a lot to prove on Friday night. Elder is going to try to prove that their team is better than their record shows. They are also going to show people just how good the football is in the GCL South. Being in the basement of their conference , they are going to try to show everyone the distance between high school football in Ohio and Kentucky. The Elder players that are replacing the suspended players will be trying to prove just how good they are ,and there is no bigger stage than the pit on a Friday night against an out of state 4 pete state champion. The Elder players aren't going to run and hide , their reputation is on the line , and Highlands is the one calling them out. This will be a war , as long as each team has 11 players on the field , it will be a fight to the end !!! Highlands will try to prove that this Highlands team can compete with the big boys of Ohio. They also want to prove that this team belongs on record with all of the other great Highlands teams. This team wants to keep the streak alive and prove that they can beat Elder in the pit . This Highlands team has worked for 4 years and they are going to leave it all on the field , win or lose , they will fight like pitbulls. It should be a great game for all to see , and I hope no injuries to either team !!

Sorry to hear the news from Elder. I don't believe the back ups are better than the starters or they would have been playing. With that said , I don't think the talent level would drop that much with the back ups playing due to the size of the talent pool to choose from. They also might not lack experience because they have been practicing against the ones all season long. It still should be a great game in a great atmosphere ! Go Birds !!!!!

Your kidding , right ? :lol: :lol::lol: So , you want Highlands to play the big schools in the GCL South that has 1200-1500 boys every week ? Even the GCL South teams don't play each other every week , so why would you expect Highlands to do it ? I'm wondering if you realize the enrollment numbers of Highlands , apparently not !! Why wouldn't you want to see Highlands play schools with the same enrollment numbers ?

Trinity is not playing NCAA-D-1 caliber ball , but they ARE very close to being the #1 team in the country. With that said , the 56-7 thumping at Elder was no big surprize ,was it ? One thing that we can agree on is "GO BIRDS " .

I would like to see them play more out of state games , but I would like those teams to be about the same in enrollment as Highlands. To hear everyone talk , they should be playing the teams in the GCL South , Trinity ,St Ed , Cleveland St Iggy , Massillon , etc , etc . I believe Highlands could play these big schools tough , but I wouldn't want to see them try , for obvious reasons. Put them in games with out of state schools their size , and they would compete with any of them , and that includes teams from Fl. Oh,Ga,Tn.

I'm not so sure Elder is on a "down" year. People have said that Elder's schedule is brutal this year , having played many teams in the USA Today Super 25 at one time or another. I would say due to the tough schedule that this is an average Elder team with an above average schedule. I'm also not sure that this is an "up" year for Highlands . With the relatively weak schedule and the starters only playing in about half of those games , I'm not sure how to guage this years team. The Cov-Cath game showed some weaknesses of Highlands that needed to be worked on. This is a very good Highlands team , no doubt about it , but if you compare this team to other HHS teams in the recent past , I would say this is also an average Highlands team. This should be a great high shool football game , with big time bragging rights on the line. I hope Elder doesn't come out "flat" , like Cincy X did in 09.

I know all about season ending injuries to players . My nephew had a torn ACL ,MCL and miniscus disc , sat out the rest of his junior year , and then came back as a senior to help whip Cincinnati X . In fact , he was on crutches at Highlands state game , one day after his surgery his junior year. Again a speedy recovery to the Colerain players.

Are these rankings current . St Ed lost to Cincy X ,giving them two straight losses .I know one was DB(NJ), Moeller now has a loss to an unranked team from Indiana , that loss coming on Moellers ,so called , home field . There is no way that Moeller is , as you say , #1 in Ohio and #2 in the nation. I say Trinity is #2 in the nation right now and it won't take much for them to move to #1 in the nation.

Seems like the same thing every year , as you would say " Ohio teams are down ". :lol: It didn't sound that way when the Moeller coach was asking his players if they wanted to shoot for a national title !! As far as Colerain goes , I hate to see anybody get hurt anywhere but injuries are part of the game and I hope the injured players recover quickly. When was the last time Highlands beat Colerain ? Never , but maybe it is a down year for your Cardinals , if you have to thump your chest for beating a co-ed school with 800 students. :laugh:

Those are great questions . IMO , Elder will approach this game just like any other . With the schedule Elder has , they might be thinking that THIS is one game that they should win. They would HATE to lose to two Ky teams in the same season . I say they throw everything but the kitchen sink at Highlands !! Go Birds !!

It's obvious that over the years the Birds have had many coaches and no two coaches are the same. Some pulled the starters earlier , some later , depends on the situation of course . Then you have the twos and threes that are likely to be stronger or weaker from year to year. It's nice to have JB Will's website with all the scores , but can you judge dominence even with the final scores ? Thanks for the link Fish , it's fun reading history. Also , should the strength of schedule be thrown in as another variable ?
