  1. In watching some of their crews work I would say Terry Coldiron, Brian Sandlin, Mark Howell would be some of their top guys.
  2. Shooter I believe he spells it Bo! Yes he is a good official. Has Officiated numerous big games over his career and has worked several Regional Finals. He is very deserving of the State Tournament. I wish him well this year.
  3. I have been told John is not comming back..He had back surgery last summer and feels he needs to take it easy. John was a GREAT Official and he is missed in the BBA.:thumb:
  4. When talking of the 16th Region Officials, Bobby Hall always comes to the top. He has officiated at the top of both the Girls and the Boys State Tournaments and has done numerous All A tournaments too.:thumb:
  5. As we near the end of the season what is some of your top officials in each region. NO OFFICIAL BASHING!!!!! Lets talk possitive..:jump:
  6. I am very saddened to hear this..Champ Liggon is a first class person that also teaches in the classroom as well as on the court. I have wittnessed him completely turn a program in shambles to a very complete team that has ranked as high as number 1 in the state. Hard to believe an administration would alow this to happen. Good Luck Coach Liggon, We hope to see you back on the sidlines soon where you are wanted.:ohbrother:
  7. So Wire, You are saying the Student Athlete deserves the best and deserves to move on based on their performance on the court.? But it is not fair for the officials to advance based on their performance on the court? Why is it fair for a coach to scratch a good official and remove him from a game in the regional tournament from what he/she deserves? I really have a hard time seeing your reasoning. Is it fair to the other coach and kids on the other teams that has no conflict only to get a lessor rated official? Your reasoning is exactly why it sounds like they are going to only two scratches for the officials next year. If they vote for them to stay in each year, because they feel they are better, than what they may get from another region, then the scratches must get fewer..:ylsuper::thumb::clap:
  8. Unfortanately BEZ, The Bluegrass Basketball Association Assigning Secretaries have always honored the coaches scratches even in the District and Regional Tournaments. I know several of the top officials that have not worked the regional finals because of a certain school making it to the final. Last year was a prime example as 4 of the top 6 rated officials were not working the regional FINALS. This is not what the scratch system is all about. Thoses guys and gals work hard all year long to get top games and top regional games and for them to get scratch from the finals is not deserving to them. They should get what they deserve. The teams do.:sssh:
  9. I thought I heard from somewhere that the BBA were sending three down to officiate this game. Would this be correct? If so I would say this would take the so called home court advantage away!!!!!
  10. Really nice win for the Lady Indians:thumb:Good luck on Friday with Iroquois:ylsuper:
  11. I hope Coach Robinson has them prepared and they are not overlooking the Lady Camels. This could be a very good match up for the Lady Indians. If they come out and stay focused, the Lady Indians should pull away from the Lady Camels in the Third Quarter and post a double digit victory..:sssh:
  12. One great person will be missed. Lake was always a gentleman and personable to everyone that he came in contact with. I got to know him while at Clark County and his coaching record speaks volume. He was one of the best defensive coaches around. He and his family are great people and our prayers go out to the Kelly family.
  13. These games played at Morehead State but does anyone know the days and times?
  14. How was it a clean steal if two kids were on the ground trying to secure the ball. Also it looked like the Henry Clay player jumped in on top of the play. I know there was not alot of contact on the play, But I have watched a whole lot of officials blow that a foul with minimal contact. I have been told by several officials this year, that is one of the points of emphasis.:thumb:Scott Co got the ball on the play. Henry Clay did NOT get the foul:sssh:
  15. eccheer I can promise that does not happen at the state tournament. An official will never work a team from their own region.:isurrender:
  16. I know of an official that has finished in the top 3 of the Bluegrass the last several years and has not made it to Rupp. That is a farce. The BBA only getting one official to the Boys state tourney does not make much sense:laugh:
  17. POLO yes there was some cursing..I know what I hear. Yes it was not good for the fans to act like that. NO Penny should have never turned and addressed it either. I agree with you there. I expected more from him than that.:thumb: The bright spot was I was really impressed in the Franklin County TEAM and how they did not get caught up in all the commotion. Was dissappointed in the AC fans that got escorted out too. This is a game and ADULTS need to realize this.:thumb:
  18. I was at this game just to see a good quality basketball game. I was there as a basketball fan. Not a fan of Franklin County or a fan of Anderson County. It was an absolute farce of how the fans were treating the kids on the court. I can't believe grown adults would yell and belittle tenagers that are playing the game they love on the court. It was appauling that this even happens. I was sitting on the Franklin County side and heard several of their fans yelling and even cursing at times the Anderson County players. There is no place in the this sport or any sport for this to happen. I can see where Penny had enough and finally called a few out. Be fans and cheer for YOUR team. Not chastise or belittle the opposing players. Show some CLASS:isurrender:
  19. Sportsfan you are exactly right about the BBA. It would be fun to see them one year do the state tournament. I think the whole state would see how good they really are. Not saying there are good officials in the other regions too, they just go deeper. It is a real shame they only get one or two in the state tourney. Looking back through this thread, I also see you mention Chamberlain took the year off to watch his daughter play her senior year. I was a big fan of John's and always enjoyed watching him call in the central ky area. He always had alot of the high profile games and I'm sure he has been missed in the BBA. Hope to see him back on the hardwood.
  20. Clyde you are exactly right. In talking with several officials last year at the state tourney, some from the BBA and several gathered around from other regions,(7th,8th,9th,and 16th) I have always wondered how they determine the diference. I was told almost by everyone one of them, if you referee the DEFENSE and not the offensive player, it will tell you every time. I asked the question then, what about leaning or falling before contact? I was told then, that the defensive player must be square and not falling sideways or backwards when the contact is created. As far as being set, I was told, the defensive player must be in a legal guarding position and playing defense. This means laterally or moving backwards. If the offense creates the contact and shoves, displaces or runs over the defense it must be a charge.:thumb: I am sure the casual fan like myself is always watching the ball, BUT I have tried to watch more off ball action this year. and watch the defense more as they stated. It is amazing how different the game is actually when you watch off the ball.:ylsuper:
  21. I think you are totally wrong on this issue. I have watched over 50 games this year. It seems that the kids just don't want to commit themselves to take a charge. And when they do they start falling or create the contact with their hands before the offense gets there. The game is alot different than it was even 10 years ago. kids just don't want to sacrifice their body like they use to.:irked: But I totally agree there are so many lost opportunities when they don't step up and take one for the team.:thumb:
  22. Sportsfan you are right that Bart Lenox would be an excellent choice. But there are several guys from the BBA that are deserving and PAID their dues through many years of service. These guys call some of the highest profile games in the state. When you Your talking Scott Co, Bryan Station, Mason Co, Clark Co, ETC.... Then you Throw Holmes, Ballard, Male, PRP, Elliott Co just to name a few that show up to play a 10th or 11th region team, these officials call stste tournament caliber games on a weekly basis.:ylsuper: I know there are alot of officials in the BBA that strive to do the best they can on the court night in and night out. They are the most consisitant in how they call the games from one night to the next. It doesn't matter who is on the game, Mr. Chasteen has done a great job in trying to implement a more precise way of officiating the game of basketball. Does that mean every game is officiated perfectly. NO! The officials are human just like the coaches, players, and fans. I hope to see some new faces from the BBA down at Rupp. They will be well deserving. :sssh:
