Yes, it's official. Coach Hicks is leaving Grant County. His coaching position has all ready been posted on the schools' website. So has one of the assistant positions.

It does look like Coach Hicks is gone. Since Simpson wasn't interested three years ago and is now eligible to retire, maybe he would be interested in a short term coaching experience. That would give Plunkett more time to learn and work with an experienced coach. Would Coach Utter be interested and be considered? He did fill the interim role before Hicks was hired. Also, former girls head coach Guffey may put his name in the hat. It is bad timing because most of the available coaches have found new homes so they may have to look internally. Should be interesting.

Coach Trame is no longer out of basketball. He will be the JV girls coach at Walton Verona.

I don't see Carr following Hicks but I do see him going south on I-75 or north up on Madison Pk.

Coach Hicks seems to move about every 2 to 3 years.

I agree. He would be crazy to leave Holmes and go to Shelby Valley.

I heard a few days ago that the job would be filled by a current Northern Kentucky coach but I will wait and see if there is any truth to it. If true, I'm somewhat surprised.

I heard today that Tim O'Hara is the new assigner for the 9th Region. Congrats and best of luck.

Gallatin has had a very good season and I'm not taking anything away their accomplishments. However, their schedule is very suspect. They have beaten only one team with a winning record and that is Walton and they are not having a very good year. I wish Gallatin would have played SK and Campbell but it doesn't look like that will happen. They should win the remainder of their regular season games (no team with a winning record). I hope their lack of a strong schedule does not come back to haunt them in the post season. I really would like to see them make a run for the region title.

In a nutshell: coaches will coach, players will play and parents will be spectators. Parents behaviors will be addressed from this point on and if problems continue to arise, they will be prohibited from watching the games.

WOW! What little bit do you know. The AD and the principal conducted the meetings and yes, he does have some authority over the coaches. Also, it is not Coach Anderson's brother and sister-in-law who are the problem makers. It is the parent who acted like a fool at North Oldham. Going on the field and challenging Coach Anderson is a real problem. He was way out of line and is instigating all of this stuff. Additionally, if you think Coach Anderson's father has no idea what he is talking about, then I have to laugh at you. You really don't know how much experience he has with fast pitch and I find it comical that you made that statement. He has forgot more about the game than you will ever know!!! In response to who told who, it doesn't really matter. Nothing is a secret at Walton. People talk but no one takes responsibility for what us said.

I understand that the AD and administration supported the coaching staff and they told the parents the same thing. I'm pleasantly surprised!! Now let's see if they back it up and deal with those who continue to stir the pot.

The softball parents (some of them) are no different than some of the basketball parents. Just because Little Sally isn't playing, a parent goes ballistic. Walton lost a lot from graduation and it has taken a whole for this years team to come together. They are beginning to show some consistency and have made great strides since day one. There is one parent who has tried to undermine the team process and he has tried to drag others into it. Coach Anderson and his staff work hard at what they do and put the best 9 on the field. What I see as the problem is that the AD needs to grow a pair and deal with the problem parent(s) when issues first arise and not let it fester into a problematic situation. He needs to support the coaching staff and put the parents in their place. However, I don't see this happening based on past experiences. I guess softball is no different than basketball, let the crazies run the asylum!!'! I feel for the girls and coaches because they are working so hard. It's a shame that some parents want to ruin everything just because they aren't pleased because their daughter isn't playing. Walton's athletic programs are becoming a joke and the parents are the main reason!
