Owen County puts alot into their youth football programs and has had some very successful teams. The current situation at the high school level is very discouraging to parents and players. It is my understanding that with budget cuts teachers are actually being let go so that makes it even harder to hire a coach.

Evidently not, but I would hope that when I lay out a couple of hundred dollars for a camp that they don't just grab some guy out of the dorm because they are short a coach. We had been told that the coaches were to be college coaches, high school coaches and current members of the college teams where this camp was held.

I was disappointed with the Bellarmine camp. Some sessions were held outside in 95 degree heat and we were disappointed with some of the coaches. The Rick Bolus camp at Georgetown was much better. You really have to be careful with camps. We sent our child to a very reputable camp several years ago only to be told by one of her coaches that he had never even played high school ball but they were short of coaches that week and his roommate got him the job.

It will be very interesting to watch these younger girls who are playing year round to see how it pays off when they are jrs. and srs. They may get burned out or they may do great or maybe other girls will just catch up with them. I suspect that some of these very young girls play many more games than your average varsity player.

Always, Always take BOTH uniforms to a tournament! Just in case.

I wouldn't entirely blame the refs. I would have thought one of the players would have noticed it immediately. Does the host school provide the game ball or the home team???

Congratulations Lacy. I haven't seen her play much but I was very impressed with her 3 point shooting when I did see her. Is this how she scores most of her points?

How much time was left in the game when Jones fouled out? Did she sit much due to foul trouble? I can't imagine that she was out much with 32 pts.

TB&G, I don't know what you are talking about. Owen Co's girls have made up all their games. The boys won't be making up a home game against Trimble Co but that does not effect anyone's senior night. Grant Co was good enough to come to Owen Co and make up a boy girl double header on Sat night so Owen Co's seniors could have a senior night. Trimble Co should have done the same for Williamstown. Yes injuries can happen but they can happen in practice or by slipping on the ice on the front porch. I feel bad for Williamstown. I agee that senior night generally means more to the girls than the boys. Boys and girls are different. (Or maybe the girls just show their emotions more easily.)

When I tried to explain what "top of the Bluegrass" meant to my 4th grader he said that Gallatin is not the top of the Bluegrass region according to his geography teacher. Regardless, Mr. Morris does a very good job. His announcing is unbiased and professional. He also seems like a nice guy.

North Oldham was playing with out leading scorer amd senior Emily Crutcher. She is out for the season with a torn ACL. What a disappointment for a nice girl and great player. She also missed some early games because of a tonsillectomy.

Congrats to Erin. Don't be talking trash to your mom when you pass her up. Remember back in the old days there were no 3 pointers and mom used a boy's basketball.

I think sometimes coaches do this so the player who is coming out can get a nice round of applause and recognition for an exceptional game. I think this is ok if the substitute is a young player who has a couple of years left to actually contribute to the team. I would not sub in an older player with only a few seconds left.
