There is the Old Rivalry bowl in Louisville where Male and Manual play other teams every year. Dunbar was scheduled to play Male the first year but backed out.

Having been able to see all the big three the last four years I disagree that Trinity has been head and shoulders above X and Male.

In 2003 eventual state champion Trinity lost to both Manual and Seneca. Manual while losing nearly all the games vs the Big Three has been competitive (with exception to 2006 which was somewhat of a rebuilding year) especially when considering the big three's performance vs others. 2003 MvsT 37-36 MvsX 0-21 MvsH 26-32 2004 MvsT 14-18 MvsX 14-28 MvsH 23-24 2005 MvsT 34-38 MvsX 7-17 MvsH 28-31 MvsX 18-33 2006 MvsT 3-28 MvsX 6-20 MvsH 7-35 MvsX 9-39 My point is that the big three aren't unreachable nor can they simply waltz through the area without any competition. I would think a look at the competition outside of Louisville you wouldn't find as many close games from the best teams of other areas as the fourth or fifth best team from Louisville has given them.

I think there is a vast underappreciation of what football is in the city of Louisville. I don't want my thoughts to be misrepresented, or say that Louisville is on par with Cincinnati, Miami, or the state of Texas when it comes to football. But the town is a football town, that has been misdiagnosed as a basketball town due to the collegiate success around the area. Louisville host the oldest continuing football rivalry west of the Ahlegaines(sp?) in Male and Manual who began playing in 1893. They hold the largest rivalry in St X and Trinity. The city has produced a great percentage of the talent that is propelling the Univesity of Louisville into national recongition. Historically it has produced some great players and great teams over the years, and has a great deal of history along with the game. As I said before I think the power of the local college basketball programs has significantly clouded the fact that Louisville has a very rich football heritage on the local level. I don't think Lexington shares this heritage. I don't say that as an insult, but I think it makes a difference where it matters most. And that usually equates to coaching and caring. I definately don't want to be accused of saying Lexington players don't care, I respect the effort of anyone who puts on pads everyday through August. but I mean caring throughout the community. Lexington can be a football giant. There is no doubt in my mind about that, but there is tough competition to get there.

Along with you I'm a little shocked that Manual isn't on anyone's list so far. I don't claim to have the foggiest idea about what other teams are bringing to the table, but this Manual team shouldn't be ignored. They had respectable outings vs T and X in the regular season and beat the likes of Warren Central, PRP, Butler, and Meade Co.

I took a quick look at the website and it looks really nice. Very impressive.

Sounds great, I thought I had read it the other way on the team website, but that beefs up our schedule with another perinnial power out of the west.

Since it was the first time I'd seen it, here is the schedule. Central Seneca Ballard Henderson Co StX Shelby Co PRP Butler Bullitt East Male I'll be honest and say that I don't know that much about the team that is returning next year, short of the fact that we will be returning some players that played key positions. The schedule still stayed strong, has much more local flavor with Ballard Seneca Central, but may be a little more winnable than it had been in the past. I will miss the Trinity games that provided some really outstanding matches. I'm also glad to see we are still playing games against top non-Louisville teams like Henderson, I think they really benefit the program by bringing attention to it statewide. These games also allow the rest of the state to see that there is more than just St X, Male, and Trinity to Louisville football.

I think Male has the best natural surface in Jefferson County. It didn't look bad at the Male Manual game, has it gotten much worse.

I disagree with this completely. Manual does not have the horses.

He misthrew a few balls, there is no mistake about that, however there were a great deal of open recievers who simply didn't make the catch. The game clearly could have been closer had Manual just connected on a few of those.

The regions and districts differ in geography along the class lines. For example R2D4 is Louisville in 4A but not in any other class.

I remember when I played, I HATED Male, it was truely an unhealthy and immature type of hatred. I don't feel that way anymore, as I probably work with and around more Male people than Manual these days, even my roomate is a Male grad. But unless things have changed, I agree with your son, there is no need for material to get up for this game. Manual could win 2-0 off a bad call and I would be happy. Whatever it takes, I'll take any win over the Bulldogs.

Winning might be worth thier while considering the four game stretch ahead of them. Win and St X, Manual, PRP/Butler(playoff), Manual/StX(playoff) Lose and StX, Manual, Manual(playoff), StX(Playoff)

I finally got to see Manual play! This game wasn't the most inspiring. Despite its competitiveness there seemed to be very little energy from the teams or the crowd. Maybe the cold weather played a role in that, but it left me wanting to see a little more out of my team. PRP perform well offensively through most of the game. It took a int in the end zone to for Manual gather control of the game. PRP recievers should get credit for thier excellent concentration on the ball, they caught a couple of juggled balls that were impressive considering the coverage on them. Offensively Manual played very well and consistantly. Defensively Manual seemed without bark or bite. A lot of missed tackles, and very little energy made Manual look very unManual like, however they did keep PRP to only two tds, so I'm possibly being a little to critical. The officiating left me scratching my head on a few plays. There was a Manual break away run that was called out of bounds that I'd have loved to have a seen a reveiw of. Also I'm not sure PRP didn't get jipped by the running of the clock on the last series.

Louisville has a great reputation of shaping up players to fit there frames accordingly. If he has the potential for a tackle's body, he will have it before he leaves.

Good move for Zach. Being part of the Louisville program will do gr3eat things for his developement as a player. Good move for Louisville. I think it is wise to continue to recruit the state of KY that has proven to be so fruitful in the last few years.

That is a little interesting. I certianly didn't know what to expect of this very young Manual team before the season, at this point in the season they now have produced a respectable record with respect to thier competition. I honestly doubt Manual will make much if any noise in the playoffs, however there performance this season does say a great deal about the health and staying power of the school's football program.

The 1945 National Champions Alabama defeated UK in Manual Stadium that year. Also I know that on several occasions UofL used Manual stadium as a home field.

My favorite place to watch a High School football game, without question. Granted I may be biased due to playing there, however the atmosphere on a big night is exactly what I think of when I think of High School football. Manual Stadium isn't going anywhere, it still is better than 90+% of the stadiums being played in today, and is a symbol of pride for the school and the community. Quite a bit has been done and continues to be done to the stadium to liven it up. I must admit though that I was a little disheartened to see the home field lockeroom after it had been redone. I loved "oldness" and dark ambiance that steeped you right into that hundred year old Louisville tradition of Manual football. Some people have dogged the stadium for it's poor lighting and old locker rooms, but I think everyone of those aspects add character to a great city landmark.
