Oh, I don't doubt that there is controversy! I've certainly heard some of it up here in NKY too. My point is simply that other sports do it, even amidst controversy. Why can't football? :idunno: It seems that a non-school, non-KHSAA club passing league could possibly help address some of the concerns mentioned in some of the earlier posts. Admittedly, I'm not all that familiar with the format of a passing league. However, it seems that even though teams would likely not be able to run the same offenses as their school team, it would still help developing quarterbacks and receivers get in additional reps and routes while waiting for the the KHSAA-sanctioned passing leagues start. I am willing to bet that if a football-minded person with a passion for the game, some sport management experience, and zero ties to a school or team started a passing league or 8-man football league in the off-season, people would sign up for it. It has the potential to offer the same benefits to football players as it does to athletes involved in the club leagues of other sports. This just seems too obvious though. And, of course, if it was that easy, someone would have started something like this a long time ago. What am I missing? Logistically, why is something like I described not possible?

Obviously, club teams are not allowed to have any association with the school's athletic department in any way, including contact with the coaches of the school team. A person non-affiliated with the school team would have to put their own team together. Yes, I agree that the school team and club teams often look incredibly similar, if not the same altogether. However, as long as all the KHSAA rules are followed, I don't see a problem with it. I still don't see how something similar couldn't be put together for a passing league of sorts, especially since none of the other sports seem to have any issues with creating club teams/leagues.

AAU basketball, indoor soccer, and club volleyball are not KHSAA sanctioned. These are activities that exist outside of school-sanctioned athletics. If passing leagues are so important, why can't a non-KHSAA sanctioned league be established, similar to the above sports? What are the obstacles to such a league being established? Serious question.

My first thought as well. I think an ejection results in a two game suspension. Is it an automatic reinstatement after the suspension or is there an appeal required before reinstatement? (I'm asking because I had heard that a coach ejection requires an appeal and a fine to be paid before reinstatement can occur. I didn't know if the process was the same for an athlete.)

I agree. Though I believe Coach Stamm would be an excellent hire (for reasons stated above by #5 about talent and dedication), I'm thinking it's not in the cards either. The only reason I believe this is because, at this time, I haven't heard definitively that he has even expressed interest in the position. Now, on the off chance that he throws his hat in the ring, I may change my tune. (As a disclaimer, I have to mention that I would hate to see him leave Ludlow, especially given the complete turnaround the program has taken since he's been head coach.)

I believe Brandon Tyler transferred to Cov Cath from Newport. I don't really have any info on him though...other than the knowledge that he did, indeed, play football and basketball at Newport, that is.
