What is the teaching position?

I would have to say excellent hire! He was an assistant at Montgomery Co with Bill Letton, a Head Football Coach at Knott Co Central, and then an assistant again at Somerset with Jay Cobb. He also coached Jon Cole (WR at somerset heading to Vandy) and worked with him since he was a freshman. He knows alot about alot of football hands down. If Paris has someone that can throw the ball, I believe that he will air it out. Good Luck JJ!! You derserve it!

If I am not mistaken this was last years schedule of bowl games for the Ray Adams Charger Classic. I don't think that the KHSAA nor KDE would allow football games to be played during Thursday (a school day). So, If I am correct, then Woodford vs. Hardin is the first game of the 2008 football season? If this is wrong, then someone correct me.

I have heard that the first HS game to be played for the 2008 HS football season will be played at Papa Johns on a Thursday night. Don't remember who the two teams were, but I dont ever remember having a Thursday night opening game. This is really cool though having an opening game on a Thursday night rather than your traditional Saturday Bowl games. So, besides this game, what are some of the more interesting opening games for this up and coming football season?

Leatherneck, thanks for your input too. I can see strong points on your post as well, and I would have to agree with you about coaches being role models for kids and that being a postive for more time with them. I will say this though, I do think that a longer dead period could be good just to give everyone a break and a chance to re charge themselves for a new season.

Thanks for your input Terp. I think that within a new association, coaches could voice thier opinion more and have more influence on rules and procedures that could occur. For example, the dead period. I know that next year we are suppose to have this new dead period where football is not allowed for the entire month of June, but I do believe other sports can be going on. (correct me if I am wrong on that, but I think that is correct) Some coaches like this new idea, some do not. I do approve of it, but I have heard some that would rather have a true Dead period where all sports are dead for the entire month. Through a new association this could happen. Now before anyone starts telling me football is more demanding and they need that time for basketball / baseball / etc.... let me say this - Kids need time to be Kids Trying to stay on track with goals here - I would want this association to acquire this rule. All sports can only last for a number of months or days, one season during the school year. In the past, we hear about fall baseball / summer basketball / fall and spring soccer / spring football (although I like sring football). I really think that if we are to have true athletes in our high schools, then they should be allow to play more than one sport without being penalized because of conflicting schedules or even coaches daring them to try out for another sport because of some other demand for their sport. Here is an example of what could happen with a school year athletic schedule: Months of: August, September, October, November = Football / Volley Ball / Cross Country Months of: 1/2 November, December, January, February, March = Basketball / Wrestling Months of March, April, May, June = Baseball / Softball / Track / Soccer The month of July would be an official Dead Period for all sports. Now, I am sure that more of you may have better ideas. I would like to hear them.

Well I don't know if we would ever have a new association here in KY, and I don't want this to be a debate over private and public schools (which I know that is why some would want a new association - but that is not my intention on this thread) I do think that it would be different to see a new association develop. I would want to see it consist of alot of schools (both public and private) that wanted to play sports for the sake of playing sports. Too many times I hear and read about teams, coaches, and politics getting in the way of kids just wanting to play a game. I know that this may be a different topic, but if a kid wanted to go and play for a team that was only 5 miles from his home and he lived in another district that made him play for a team 15 miles from home, why should he be punished? Shouldn't it be the kid's choice on who they want to play for and with? Shouldn't they be able to choose what kind of coach they would want to play for? I hear about these situations, and we look at them as being unfair, but there are alot of schools in this state that do alot of unfair things. Why not make the playing level fair for everyone and have "rules" that are fair for the student athletes?

I thinik that this is something, considering how everyone on here had their had named the coach a long time ago, and here we have someone that I don't think was even mentioned in any threads (I could be wrong and correct me if I am.) Point being, you never know who is going to be hired until the actually announcement.

1917! Wow, I did not realize that it was that old. That's got to be one of the oldest associations in existance. I wonder if it is true compared to other states?

I want to start a NEW ASSOCIATION for high school sports here in Kentucky. Any school would be welcomed to join, but certain rules would have to be in place. If you are laughing by now, good for you, but I do wonder, could we ever see a day where we have a new and different association for our high schools? What did we have in place before the KHSAA and did it work for everyone? I am curious to see what people know about this topic.

I used to be a basketball manager for this school back when I attened ALC, and when Gary Gibson was the head coach. I know they made the sweet 16 last year and I am curious if anyone from eastern ky could give me some insight on how this years team is doing? I have heard they have some outstanding guards (stepp) and I believe that Cox is too a good player. I actually remember seeing those boys play when they were small.

So.. is it eveyone's thinking that only a coach with head coaching experience will only be looked at? I have seen some talent come out of Garrad County and have always thought that it could be a good opportunity for the right coach to fit in. Who ever gets it, will have a good pool to draw from.

So what would be something that the fans / students / players / parents would want to see from a new coach coming into GC, if Cooper does not get the position?

Anyone know how many kids they dress out yearly? And what do they have coming back for next year?

On offensive they return several key players, including QB, and most of the O Line. Defense is where they will be hit the worse - they lose at least 5 players that I know of with graduation.

Funny how when a team is out of the playoffs, then you see someone trying to tear them down. Focus on the Positives and not the negatives... nothing good ever comes from it! Great year Somerset! Good luck to all of the seniors.

Totally agree with you about the field. If they had turf, however, then I think we would see more people push for it.

I would like to see them played in Lexington. But if they could not, then I would also say keep it in Lousiville.

OK, I was actually just thinking about this the other day. Then I saw the thread on here about the KHSAA may be moving the state football finals. I personally would enjoy watching the state football finals at commonwealth. I know that the field would be an issue, trying to play 6 games on it in a span on two days. Anyway, what would be your reason as to why you would want the state football championships played in Lexington?
