2008 HS football Opening Game

Featured Replies

I have heard that the first HS game to be played for the 2008 HS football season will be played at Papa Johns on a Thursday night. Don't remember who the two teams were, but I dont ever remember having a Thursday night opening game. This is really cool though having an opening game on a Thursday night rather than your traditional Saturday Bowl games.

So, besides this game, what are some of the more interesting opening games for this up and coming football season?

Call me a homer but I think the Rockcastle County/Pulaski County matchup could be very interesting.

Pulaski COunty is coming off one of the best season's in program history and Rockcastle County will have a new head coach in Scott parkey.

This will be very interesting to watch.

This game is also part of the Ray Correll Bowl but I'm not sure as to the site of the game because, if I'm not mistaken, the RCB rotates among the schools in Pulaski County. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that last point.

Woodford County and John Hardin are playing at 6:00 on Thursday at Papa Johns in the Ray Adams Charger Classic.

A 6pm start implies there might be a second game. Any ideas?

I thank it is two game Thursday and two games Friday. Don't know what other teams are playing in the bowl I just know Woodford and John Hardin are on Thursday at 6:00.

The teams playing in the Rafferty's Bowl game in Bowling Green will be Bowling Green and Henry Clay playing the second game....the first game will be Warren Central and Boyle Co. The BGHS and Henry Clay game will be a great one IMO. We have never played Henry Clay in the history of our football program. PH and I think that this game will give a good look at BGHS's football fortunes for 2008! Plus we are excited about seeing and meeting some of our BGP family from Lexington!!!!

John Hardin plays the Louisville Butler Bears at 2:30 p.m. in the second game of the Ray Adams Charger Classic. Jeffersontown meets Nicholas County at noon. Following the John Hardin-Butler game will be Bullitt East-Woodford County at 5 p.m. and Scott County-Boone County at 7:30 p.m.

John plays Woodford County in 08, last year 07 they played Butler.

If I am not mistaken this was last years schedule of bowl games for the Ray Adams Charger Classic. I don't think that the KHSAA nor KDE would allow football games to be played during Thursday (a school day).

So, If I am correct, then Woodford vs. Hardin is the first game of the 2008 football season? If this is wrong, then someone correct me.

It has been a mess with the Charger Classic, with college starting a week early Papa Johns was not open for the Classic. Things were still being worked out for the games but last I heard it was not going to happen unless it was going to be during the week.

No the Ray Correll Bowl is always played at Somerset High School. However Pulaski County and Southwestern never play each other in this game because they are obviously in the same district.

I could be wrong on this but I think that Pulaski and Southwestern alternate every year on playing Somerset. Correct me if I'm wrong.

To my knowledge you are right. The fourth team (playing either Pulaski or Southwestern) is almost always a local. Rockcastle County was there last year. Seems like Danville has been involved before, and maybe Russell County.

I don't believe Nicholas County is participating this year. An email crossed last week from their coach looking for an opening week game.

Owensboro vs Evansville Reitz who won the Indiana State title last year. This game is part of the Border Bowl with the 4 Owensboro Teams playing teams from Evansville IN.
