:thumb: This is why schools like Hanover, Rose-Hulman, etc. are all very good academic schools, and why schools like UK/UC/UL aren't quite to that level. The sheer volume of students is extroidinary. I can remember one of my son's friends saying that the only person he ever talked to in one class was a TA. I really do like your idea of one campus and 4 schools, but I question the motives for doing such a thing. Other than improving athletics, what would be the motivating factor to make such a change. And more importantly, would that devolve into which county has the largest population?

Terp you have hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately, what you may have discovered is that "those types of families" ARE special. And having many of those types of families, but more so NOT having the other kind of families (the ones that don't care) IS a very big advantage. IMO, it is what creates the "us vs. them" mentality. I don't know that anyone is doing anything wrong in "having" that advantage, but I do know that there are a good many schools that wish they were stuck with less of the types of families that do nothing, and more of the type that are more involved. It is also my opinion that having these types of people continually involved with the school serves to reenforce the school monetarily, much like a small liberal arts college, which in the long run gives them another advantage over other schools. In the end, I don't think anyone is necessarily wrong here. I also am quite sure that the "playing field" is not even, and has not been for some time. Some of those "advantages" cannot be changed, and create the ability to have more success than your average public school.

Very well said. Great explanation, I appreciate it. I wanted to comment on the bolded part. I am certainly not accusing you of looking for an advantage in terms of not taking X type of students. I just wanted to point out that it is, and will continue to be, a distinct advantage for private schools. It is my personal opinion that ANY school that has an advantage will be viewed in a negative light by the schools who do not have said advantage. To be clear, I am not saying that private schools are shunning these students away and that gives them an advantage. On the contrary, as you pointed out, they are not. The perceived view of private schools (esp. T and X) and the presence of tuition is what keeps these students out of those schools.

First, a good many have sniffed a title here. Owensboro Catholic, LCA off the top of my head (and wasn't Lou. HC very good for a while?). KCD doesn't/hasn't played varsity, Bishop Brossart was in their first year so we can probably eliminate those two. Second, I know for sure that 3 schools have won in recent years. NCC(last year), CovCath(last year), and Trinity(this year), LexCath(2-3 years ago) not to mention the last time X won a title(??). Finally, that a very large number of titles for a very small percentage of the football playing populace, even if we include schools like KCD and BB. Not to metion that there were only 4 classes for a long, long time. Perceived advantage or not, there certainly does exist a very real mathematical anamoly. Short term success, like that of Boyle Co. can be explained away by a great coach, group of players, etc. But long term success has to be attributed to something else. So if I'm reading you right, you explain this as CSAA? I don't buy that. Other schools have great feeder programs, and they aren't winning titles. Why?? The numbers? I've read on here many times that it isn't the numbers. So if not, what is it?

RM, I know that you would work to your wits end to help your kids. Fact of the matter is that many parents, especially many of the low income/low score variety, wouldn't even sniff a school like Trinity or X because of the tuition. Not to mention that Jr. really doesn't want to go there because they make him "work and behave". What I'm pointing out is that you are the exception (and a fantastic one at that), rather than the rule.

I totally understand what your saying. But picture this: Disciplinary problems have been shown to highly correlate with low test scores and, among other things, income. So if I'm a kid that fits this bill: A. I probably can't afford to go to Trinity. B. I know that if I go there I will have to behave, something I am not (and cannot) be forced to do at public schools. So while yes, I agree you don't turn kids away, by the basic setup of your school you are able to discourage many (note I didn't say all) of your lower level students from even applying.

Now I'm no genius, but isn't LexCath a relatively new school? So how exactly could the parents decide before these kids were born (13-18 years ago) that their kids would go to LexCath?

How many state titles have those 16 schools claimed in the last 10 years? 20 years? And that's just in football...........the "other" sports, especially the smaller sports, are much worse. Is it just an anomaly that such a disproportionate number of private schools are so successful? If not, then why are they able to succeed where others fail? Surely you would agree that there are distinct advantages that private school athletes and programs have over public schools? And please, don't feed me the "we work harder" line. What then are the advantages that keep the private schools on top?

You also have to understand that in many places, parents don't take the time to do the things that they do at Highlands, nor do they care about the long term success of the program. Can you imagine that Parent A at some schools that might possibly lobby for Coach A because his offense throws the ball (and parent A's son happens to be a QB). Meanwhile, Parent B wants Coach B because he runs the ball all the time (and parent B's son is a RB). See what I'm getting at? Conflict of interest.......

A comittee with parents and students?? Lord I hope not. I am quite certain that this is not the type of comittee being described, and I'm also quite certain that the type of comittee you are describing would be a bad, bad idea. How parents could possibly know or be expected to know what is best for the future of a program is beyond me. Any hiring committee should be made up of personnel within the school system IMO, a "site based" committee, as is usually the case in most hiring decisions. I'm pretty sure that Scott will hire the best candidate and it sounds like the administration is committed to doing so, good for them, I hope they are able to do what noone has been able to accomplish.

So your saying that Elliott and his "leadership" could have lead BC past Trinity?? :lol: All of these kids are fine athletes. I just happened to think that some other QBs were a little more deserving of the 1st team appointment this year. JMO.

I know nothing about LCA and have not seen them play. I do know that Beechwood has a kid that is supposedly getting D1 looks on the OL(and maybe DL?). Kids at Beechwood don't get "actual game experience" as much as other schools because there are usually some very talented players in front of them. I'll take the "actual game experience" of playing in multiple state championships anyday over starting for 3 years. :thumb: As far as the kicking game, I do believe that the Amelang(sp?) kid is still the kicker at Beechwood. Consistently good FG kicker from the 40 on in, decent on kickoffs. I look forward to a great game......what are LCA strengths?

Personally, I didn't think either one of them were the among the best QB's in NKY. Definately didn't think Elliott was 1st team QB material, DB I agree with wholeheartedly. I'm sure Mr. Elliott has the talent to put up great numbers as a QB, but IMO the award should be based upon the accomplishments in the given season. I think Cody is a fine athlete and could honestly make this time at any position but line (maybe even there too) if given the opportunity. I just didn't think his season this year warranted a 1st team selection. I think Bricking, the kid from Campbell, and Bogle all warrant consideration here.....

As I've said all year, if Owensboro gets a decent offensive showing they have the ability to win any football game they play this year. If the game is a low scoring affair (below 21) I look for the Devils to come out on top. OSHS cannot get in a shootout with the Purples, they must control the clock and take their chances in appropriate situations. Should be a great game in between two top notch programs. I hope someone can keep us updated as I won't be able to make it. Good luck to both teams, but GO DEVILS!!! :fire:

How is this a bad thing for the school as a whole and the Scott football team? Was this not the case under the previous coaches/administration? Good for you for standing behind the Eagles, those kids need more supporters like yourself.

Again, so that entitles you to "look down your nose" at those programs that have not achieved this "rough parity"? I would agree that, especially in recent years, the T vs. Boone/Ryle games have been a bit lopsided. If anything that's a testament to the T program, Coach Coverdale, and all involved in Trinity football. Your accomplishments speak for themselves. You don't need to diminish the accomplishments of other programs. Surely you are better than that. Surely your not defending the fact that CentreRocks took a bunch of quotes, without referencing the context, and put them together to discredit the opinions of Boone Co. supporters? Every team has supporters who make outlandish claims, please don't make it sound like teams from NKY are the only ones.

:lol:That's comical. I read the thread, and while there certainly were some outlandish posts by the Raider fans much of what you quote is taken out of context. For instance some, and notice I said some, of the posters go on to say that T is a great program and Ryle will have to play a nearly flawless game and get some help to win. If I had the spare time I'm sure I could compile a nice list from the T/X thread too........

I have been told in the past that its every bit as affordable to charter a bus as it is to use a "county" school bus. I honestly can't see it being a huge difference in price, anyone have some info on this?

Don't tell anybody I told you, but Boone is nearly 50/50 run/pass for the year. I'd say no worse than 60/40...........they just like everyone to believe that all they do is run the ball.
