How does your team travel in the playoffs?

 

Do they ride on a big yellow bus or do they charter a coach and travel in luxury?

 

If they charter, do they do it from the get go and charter for all rounds or do they save that for a regional championship, semi-final or finals appearance?

Highlands only has 1 1/2 school busses. Charters for ALL away games.

But, years like this, its nice to not have to travel at all unless you make it to the big show, then its worth the travel. I saw on the plans for improvements that HHS wants to build a central bus garage. Is Fort Thomas Schools planning on getting buses? Or is this for the 1 1/2 that they already have and all those vans?

Belfry rides the school buses for every round.

 

Way back when they chartered for a few late playoff games, but in recent years they have gotten away from that.

 

I know the 2003 and 2004 teams rode the yellow buses all the way to the finals.

 

I think it is a mixture of a blue collar attitude and superstition.

I think NCC is all chartered, but they may have changed. I know for all long trips we def charter. Finals definitely.

Why not ride to the state game in style. Even if you have buses, treat your players with some comfort for that trip. It can be several hours to Louisville depending on where your from. And just think, if and when the state games move to Western, that's that much further that the Birds, Breds, Beechies, and Boonees will have to travel.

I would think they usually stay all night so ride in comfort is not a problem on game day. Also school buses today are a little faster than the old ones that ran 50-55.

We have riden the Big Yollow Bus for 3 state championships('95,96 and '02) so nothing would or will change that if it happens this year ,usually takes two Buses and an equipment truck ,thats way we travel..

Rumor has it that the last time Mike Holcomb chartered a bus was in the playoffs one year in the 80's to Russell (maybe) and lost. He has not taken Breathitt Co. on a charter bus since.

I agree. I think thats why a lot of public school districts just can't afford it, especially for the early rounds. But if your team makes it to the Regional, Semi-Finals or Finals, I think the desire to travel in style may begin to become more important to you than the money involved.

 

Thats why I posed the question the way I did, although I'm sure it doesn't cover every scenario.
