How could Ashland become 4th if they beat Woodford head to head?

Thats next weeks game when they play Tates Creek...

So Ashland would be the 2 seed reguardless of next weeks outcome?

If Ashland played like they did tonight then JC wins by 4 TD's.

I keep telling myself that this is the week for Russell to break out of it but it continues to happen from week to week.

Just got back from the game and it looked like to me and several others that Ashland just didnt come ready to play at all. Probably needed to open up the play book more because our plays were to easy to predict.

I hear Bailey is going to try and play. If he can, I think Mason will have a tough time stopping Russell. I don't think Mason can get in the backfield like Ashland did and disrupt the Devils offense.

So how much has Mason improved since the Ashland scrimmage? If they haven't improved drastically this should not be a very close game. Both of Russell's losses came to teams with twice the depth of Russell and to two teams who would win the 3A state championship. I didn't see a kid on MC's team who I thought would start anywhere on Russell's team.

I sure hope Mason has improved by 10 fold since they scrimmaged Ashland with the voting going the way it has. What'd they give up 5 TD's in the first half without Carter in the game? Ashland wasn't even on a roll like they are now, they are playing even better now then they were then.

That was also during the Boyle 56-0 run. So how did all those other teams do against them? When is the next Boyle team gonna have 5, 6 or 7 D1 players on it?

The correct answer is to consolidate with Raceland, no point in 2 small schools being less than 3 miles away with costs so high. Then they would be a force to be reckoned with in 4A.

The last time Russell and Lex Cath played it was a thriller of a game. Of course Russell probably won't ever have the size and talent they had then, but it was still a very close game that was lost by the Russell kicker in OT.

It would get rid of Lewis, East and West. Also, Rown seems to be on the rise. BC, GC, and LC are all non-district games, so that would free up those games for them to get tougher competition. I'd like to see Russell play Lawrence Greenup Boyd Rowan Ashland Raceland Ironton Belfry Johnson Central Wheelersburg If that schedule can't get a team ready, no schedule can.

Whether they can or not, that's all they try to do. So we shall see. If Bailey can't make it back it could be a tough one for the Devils. I will also add, that eventhough Russell has played a soft schedule. Both of their losses have come to teams that would be heavily favored to win 3A.

Bailey going out in the second quarter I don't think helped things. Sounds after talking with some people that Russell shot themselves in the foot. Get stopped @ the 1 yd line before half, then come down into the redzone after half to kill the drive with penalties. Get an interception and score, then give up a 80yd TD, then fumble the ensuing kickoff on the 7yd line, Bailey's replacement. Then fumble the next drive inside the 30 and give up another TD. Seems all you have to do this year is bring the house against Russell, Ivan isn't going to make teams pay by throwing the ball. Just blitz your whole team and you will win.

I think people have the right to complain about the play calling. Its been going on for years. Now its just more obvious to people outside the program due to internet message boards. To answer Ryan's question why Russell gets so much talent. It's because they have a very strong JFL and have for years. The kids are well coached from a young age and football is number 1 @ Russell. The kids like other sports but football is the heart and soul of the athletics in the Russell area. Ashland and Russell's JFL's are second to noone in the state. Also sideline doc, who was it that hurt you all so bad last year? That kid maybe has not touched the ball 40 times this year. I don't know if they are saving it for when the games get tougher or what. We will see.

If Conner's JV teams starts the first half Saturday, woudl that make them ineligible for the JV game next week?

Most of those wins were against pretty weak competition, especially the last few years. How many talented Russell teams have lost because they only ran those 4 plays? 02 Russell, 00 Russell come to mind right away. Part of being a great coach means using your players abilities to their full extent, not just doing what you do and if your team is uncapable of doing that then you just take the loss? Is that really coaching to you? Russell will really become a powerhouse once Ivan is gone. Too much wasted talent goes through there.

Heard Russell has a new lineman eligible, supposed to be pretty good. Should sure up that left tackle position and give them a pretty decent line. Of course, we'll see if Russell coaches are willing to replace a coach's son on the oline. Doubtful.

Russell also needs to get the ball to their best playmakers more often. Bailey may be the best playmaker on the team, yet he only gets a couple touches a game. They relied heavily on him last year at the end of the season and in the playoffs. I think so far this year it has been a grosse misuse of talent for Russell. Do they have a Gross or Clark? No. However, they do have a better overall backfield imo because they have more capable backs than when those guys were @ Russell. If Ivan wants to run Abrams off the right tackle 25 times every game, Russell will not win any of their remaining games.
