5A-Region 3 Playoff Scenarios

Featured Replies

As a result of tonight's action, the playoff picture is a little clearer in District 5, and a lot more confused in District 6. Dixie crushed Scott 52-7 in District 5, and Bryan Station upset Ashland 28-14 in District 6 action.

---------------------------------------

District 5 now looks like this:

Scenario #1

Cov. Cath. defeats Holmes

1. HHS

2. Cov. Cath.

3. Dixie

4. Holmes

Scenario #2

Holmes defeats Cov. Cath.

1. HHS

2-4. 3-way tie between Cov. Cath., Dixie & Holmes

--------------------------------------

And in District 6, it breaks down like this:

Scenario #1

Johnson Central defeats Ashland

1. Johnson Central

*Three-way tie between Ashland, Bryan Station and Woodford County

Scenario #2

Ashland defeats Johnson Central

1. Ashland Blazer

2. Johnson Central

3. Woodford County

4. Bryan Station

How would the tiebreaker play out if Ashland, Woodford County and Bryan Station tie for 3rd?

I'm working on that. It comes down to each team picking four of their defeated opponents. The wins for each of those four are totaled and the result desides the placement of each of the three tied teams.

So how would the 3-way tie breaker between those two play out IF Holmes beats CCH tomorrow?

Wouldn't CCH still get the #2 seed because of the win over Newcath?

No, it would be a 3-way tie, because Holmes would have beaten CCH, CCH would have beaten Dixie, and Dixie would have beaten Holmes.

The tie would have to be resolved using the same procedure mentioned above for district 6.

Currently (pending a few more results, yet to come in) Ashland has 17 points, Bryan Station has 13 points, and Woodford has 10 points. This could change slightly as a few more results come in tonight.

Ashland is out in front; but Station and Woodford have something of an advantage, in that they can both still pick up two defeated opponents.

I know it'd be a 3 way tie. I meant using the defeated opponents tie breaker wouldn't CCH most likely get the #2 seed since they beat Newcath who now has 7 wins and should likely finish with 8 or 9 to close out the season?

What teams did you use to come up with 17 points for Ashland?

I haven't been keeping track of the district 5 tie-breaker points. I'll figure up all those points tomorrow, if Holmes wins. ;)

I doubt very seriously Holmes beats CCH tomorrow so no worries BF. ;)

Can you use teams involved in the Tiebreaker as points?

They have victories over:

Pikeville - 3 wins*

Russell - 6 wins

Montgomery County - 2 wins

Boyd County - 4 wins*

Woodford County - 4 (qualifying) wins**

Greenup County - 2 wins

* Pending tonight's results

** Wins between any two teams involved in the tie can't be counted.

No, you cannot use the teams involved. If one team has beaten the other two, they would get the higher seed.
