5A-Region 3 Playoff Scenarios

Featured Replies

Just curious nothing more, but why is this District matchup of JC and A being played so late in the season! How many teams does this district have in it to cause this game to be played after (at least to me) all the other district games are over!

I don't know the answer to that; but there are five teams (Montgomery County being the fifth) in the district.

That is the number that I thought also....

So the question begs to be ansered even more so now! Why so late?

Our district has five also and we are done!

I think the KHSAA has a pre-defined scheduling grid for this year. I know they have one for the next two years. So I guess it's their fault. ;)

Here's the grid for 2009-10.

(The below is valid only if Johnson Central defeats Ashland in this week's final district match-up.)

While nothing is definite in this competitive district, a few things are beginning to take shape. For instance, if Woodford County can win this week against Whitley County, they can almost assure themselves of the 3rd place position in the final standings. This is because they would pick up seven tie-breaker points, tying them with the maximum number Bryan Station can possibly earn. They'd need just one more point to take the position.

Woodford could still overtake Station without winning this week; but it would be a little bit tougher proposition. My guess is that, one way or the other, Woodford County will take the 3rd place position.

Should Ashland lose to Johnson Central this week, I don't think anyone is going to eclipse them for the second place position; however, it's still "matmatically" possible for Woodford County to do so.

How dose the Western forfeiting there first 5 game play into Bryan Station's total.

Wow! That really does shake things up in the district. Not only does it strip Bryan Station of four (of their current eight) points and four (of their 16) potential points; it raises Woodford County's current points up to ten. This effectively almost guarantees Woodford County the #3 seed. Woodford is still not likely to surpass Ashland for the #2 spot; but it could happen.

Is this settled yet?
You're behind the times! :D

Here's a link to the results thread I posted.

Interestingly, I saw Ryan Ernst, in yesterday's Enquirer column, listed all the 5A playoff spots and said they were now settled. Now, I'd like to believe my calculations were the source for his article, but who knows. ;)
