I hate to say this after seeing the damage and knowing lives were lost, but the area is fortunate the storm turned when it did. If it had stayed on path or turned a few miles north, we would be dealing with 10 times the damage and lives lost as it would've hit much more populated areas.

 

 

Said that on a few different threads and I agree. Keeps going north and it hits Florence and then Covington, or Independence. 10 times more damage may have been an underestimate. I truely believe god didn't give this community more than it could handle but the way the community has responsded was enough to show that it can handle ANY THING. I'm honestly proud.

Baby girl under 3 was found near Salem Indiana in a field, she is alive and at Kosairs Hospital in Louisville. No realtives have been found. This happened last year near my sister in Alabama and the baby was killed. Praise the LORD for this child. Its been a long day. henryville was hit so hard and my heart just goes out. They are still rebuilding in Alabama. Just a few minutes and it can change lives very quickly.

Kid was only 14 months old. This sounds awful, but I don't mean it to. Anyway, it's a good thing that none of her relations had to explain to her why mom, dad, and siblings are no longer with her. I can't imagine her grandparents needed to deal with that, too.

Three tornados confirmed by KSP in my county. The firehouse located about two miles from where I live was destroyed. Between there and my house, it was hit and miss. Many out buildings were destroyed, lots of trees down. A house about a mile on the other side of me was destroyed. Thankfully, no one was injured.

 

We saw the tornados that hit Jefferson Co, IN, out the front window of the house Iwas at. Just...wow.

Pray for the people in EKY. I'm in Lawrence Co. Insurance guy came yesterday and basically we need a new exterior home (roof,siding,gutters,down spouts etc). Pretty sure our Pathfinder is totalled. I'm not too worried about any of it. Ive got a wife,8 year old+5 year old safe!

6 miles down the road homes are flattened! 1 of our BGPer's lost everything. He layed in a bathtub with his wife+2 kids. The walls+roof flew off around them. They lost their grip on his daughter as the wind started pulling her, her brother reached up and pulled her back! When it was all over that bathtub was all that was left! All safe!

It has been AMAZING to see the community in Louisa pull together to help neighbors. Groups all over town meeting at 10:00 this morning to cleanup even in the biggest snow we've had all year! The biggest group....our high school students!!

My hometown is destroyed guys. I don't live there anymore but it still holds a big piece of my heart. The only fortunate thing (for me personally) is that my immediate family lives on the other side of the county and were spared.

Very tragic event.

It reallly is unbelievable if you've never seen any thing like it before. I took a volunteer day Wednesday and vacation til Monday. Looking forwards to helping these people get thru, get by and move one. I've never been so proud of my community as I am now. I told my girlfriend Sat night that even if I lived some where else my heart would always be in Independence. I've spent 26+ year of my life south of Simon Kenton and I love these folks. So proud of how our community has come together.

 

I was out there yesterday. You still couldn't get through 17, but they said it should be open today. I helped out a neighbor of my parents clean up some as he had 6 trees fall on his property. I found a piece of drywall painted purple. I couldn't help but to immediately think of a little girl's room and my daughter. My mom was helping out at the corner store by Piner elementary. They are feeding upwards of 500 people a day. They were running out of stuff yesterday and called some of the big grocery stores for help, and they wouldn't. Other than that, the only other thing that has been somewhay upsetting is that there was someone at the Piner church telling people they were only accepting new clothes with tags. My sister had 6 large garbage bags full of gently used women's clothing that they wouldn't accept. These people need anything they can get right now.

Today, upon returning to work, I found out that the family of the baby found in the field, and the baby herself, were the grandchildren and great grandchildren of one of our ladies who work in one of the gift shops here. It's a terribly sad day here. And to make things even more tragic, just a few months ago, Ruth lost her daughter (the mother of the baby's mother) to cancer, and her son to an overdose. My heart is just breaking....breaking for this poor woman's losses.
