Did not having Pike cost Dixie a chance at repeating?

Featured Replies

Without Stansberry in the game Dixie was limited and it showed tonight. Cooper exposed it with Maniacci.

Well, I haven't seen them play, but in looking at the stats Pike was the leading rebounder & second top scorer last year. So I would have to say most certainly yes.

Some say it was a case of addition by subtraction, if you catch my drift. I say that's pish-posh.

Pish-posh. I like that. Think I'll steal it. :thumb:

I see what you're saying, but I'd be curious to hear how someone would defend that opinion.

I don't think there's any question that Dixie would have been better with him. Pike on the football field and Pike on the court are two different people. Pike would have provided that senior leadership that was lacking on this team. He held that role last year as a junior. He seemed to be the calming voice when things were getting out of hand, and the motivator when they needed a kick in the butt. I was extremely impressed with his demeanor on the court last year. However, I don't know if he could've prevented what happened down the stretch or not. Dixie was a team that was divided, not only on the court and in the locker room, but also in the stands.

I think he would have helped Dixie this year, great ball player. Didn't some of the footballers have issues with his leadership? Thought I heard grumblings from the Dixie faithful?

He was different on the basketball court for sure. He would have given them a presence they didnt seem to have. No offense to the young kids coming off the bench in Niehaus and the other big, cant think of his name, but they are nothing like Pike.

I felt bad seeing Stansberry foul out, he was a lot of fun to watch in his career. Playing in his last HS game and fouling out with 4 minutes left was a heartbreaker I am sure. I hope he gets some looks and plays at the next level.

I am not for sure chemistry wise, but talent wise for sure.

From what I saw last year and from what I heard, completely different kid. I don't know if it had to do with him not being the main man on the hardcourt or what.

There aren't many 6'4" 235 lb players in the 9th with his athletic ability. Not to mention he played basketball at a very high level his whole life. This wasn't just a football player banging bodies. Zeke had a very high basketball IQ. Not sure I buy the addition by subtraction element as he played with these guys on the hardwood for a couple of years.

Q, I was shocked at some of the fouls he committed. Magnitude of the game and him being a Senior leader on this team. Gotta play with much more bb IQ than what I saw last night. He never got in the flow of the game. Very surprising.

Well said, especially the bold. Pike was a very smart player and had the talent to back up that basketball IQ. Cooper was the worst possible matchup for Dixie as their strength is Dixie's weakness.

I agree but Stansberry fouling out definately hurt. Also, I've got a feeling that Chevy knew all along that Zeke would not be there so his offensive/defensive schemes should have been designed for that fact. The young men just had to execute them.

After the way his football season ended he might have been a bigger distraction than the coaches needed.

Agree with EZ

I find it puzzling that Dixie was the consensus #1 all year long (save for HC a week or so) and everything was alright "down south in Dixie" without Pike. They lose to Cooper and now he would have been their savior? Of course he's a spectacular athlete but 80% of the people on this site had Dixie #1 and winning the region WITHOUT Pike. Why bring it up now. He's gone and has been gone the whole year.
