Campbell County's New Stadium

I will disagree, the issue is more a space plus revenue issue. If there is only one gym, and teams are practicing, an event can not be held in that gym. Ex. basketball teams are practicing, cant host a wrestling event that night that will generate money. However, have a practice gym, teams can still practice and you can host the event.

Or, boys can have a game, and girls can practice, or you can have your youth teams practicing while a game is going on. Baseball pitchers and catchers can practice or indoor batting cage when the weather is bad, while basketball is in the main gym.

I could go on and on about scenarios.

I agree it would be convenient or a nice to have in those scenarios, but most of the other schools don't have that "luxery" either. They all have conflicts and get by.

Now for PE classes as stated in the other post would be a better argument. However, I don't think there are a ton of PE classes offered in high school. I think they become options you can take, rather than requirements like in grade school. So I'm not sure that one is great either.

As for the argument for turf or other luxerys in football...the school I went to put turf down from private donations. Allumni and Booster progams also contributed. State money had nothing to do with it.

I understand they are a big school and still growing, but I could still see where some feel it's a luxery, nice to have, convenient or however you want to put it.

I'm a sports guy and understand the need for more gyms!

But as a citizen, I understand where the guy above is coming from. As a citizen, the second gym appears to be more of a luxery than a necessity. The argument of more students doesn't really apply when talking about the sports programs. You still have the same number of teams and number of participants on those teams as anyone. Most schools get by with one gym (or multiple gyms in their district) just fine. So looking at it from that angle, a taxpayer could see a second gym as a luxery. Highlands, Newport, NCC, Brossart, Silver Grove, Dayton, Bellevue all have one gym with the same amount of teams and participants on those teams and they all get by just fine.

Again, I coach AAU basketball, so I wish they would build a thousand gyms! But I think the other guy has a point when looking at it from his perspective.

Each of the schools mentioned have less than half of the enrollment of CCHS. They currently have 3 to 4 gym/health classes trying to use one gym and two health classrooms. The additions will help fix this issue as well as expand current PE offerings, which the video game playing, texting students can use. In fact they PE department has expanded by 1/2 a teacher next year which will probably be full time the following school year.

Compare them to other schools their size and they were lacking. Dixie 2, SK 2, Boone 3, etc. It will also help all sports teams be able to practice on campus. Right now some have to leave campus and go to elementary schools to practice. It will help off season training for sports. Football, tennis, baskeball players will no longer be using hallways to work out in. It made no sense when it was built to only have one gym when the school they were leaving had 2.

The gym and athletic field are part of an overall project of a vocational school and agriculture area.

It's a good move for the district.

I am a Campbell Co. resident and was wondering wht they need a second gym on the same campus?

I can name numerous but for one main reason, CCHS has wrestling, and 2 basketball teams (3 teams for each one) that share ONE GYM! When wrestling has a match during the week, the basketball teams have to be done by 4:30 - 5:00. That cuts out a lot of practicing time. Also, the freshman teams have to go to the elementary schools for practices so now both varsity/JV teams can practice at the same time right after school and then freshman can practice after them.

Stands are taking shape in Atown but I understand it won't be ready to open until next year. I heard Coach Lickert reached out to Brossart about playing the 1st game there and was turned down?

There is a SLIM chance it could be ready this year but not likely. I think the track is scheduled to be poured middle of October. With the limited rain we have had, they have been able to work on it a lot more. I do know Coach Lickert did say if it was ready, it would be the seniors decision if they wanted to play on it!

Why wouldn't the seniors want to play on the new turf? Can't wait to see te finished product.

A very similar gesture about 10 yrs ago when Highlands put in their new Fieldturf.

Highlands had an open date and NewCath needed a field to play on and Dale offered Bob the field for no cost for the nite and was turned down.

Iam thinking Dale thought it was the Christian thing to do since about half of the kids playing for NewCath at the time lived in Ft. Thomas. :thumb:

When egos get in the way the only people that are cheated are the kids.

Too bad for the BB kids as I know that Coach Lickerts invitation was a sincere and Christian one as well. Just sayn..................

Because essentially, it is not the field they have played on for their whole high school career and some might think it is not their home field.

Funny you mention that story because I heard that the 2nd call Coach Lickert made was down to Caketown. Could the Birds be heading south next year to kick off the new stadium?? That would be such an awesome jesture on Dale's part!

So will he offer the same to the seniors next year? They will have played their whole career at the middle school.

If you have a new stadium you play when you can. Maybe you just dont change in mid season if the time line for the opening is not set.

Why would you schedule a 30-50 point loss to open your brand new stadium? I would think the beatdown that will transpire will take a lot of the shine off of opening a new stadium.

You are way over thinking this in my opinion. He (Lickert) said in the football meaning in the spring IF the field/stadium is ready then he will give the seniors the CHOICE to play on it as it is NOT been their field during the season. Now we all know the class coming in (juniors this year) will do spring ball and play on it for the regular 2013 season. IT WILL BE THEIR home field.
