I can't believe how far off most of you are on this answer....Both schools happen to be located in the two most populated areas of KY....and they also happen to closely border other states....They recruit, of course, but they don't have to put a lot of effort into their recruiting. The best of the best go to these schools to win a state championship and to be seen by Div. 1 recruiters...I don't blame them....Had I had that option in high school I would have chosen to go and win a state championship as well...Until KY creates a super class and places these types of schools into that class...This is how big school football in KY will be...

 

No players leave Cincinnati to play football in Kentucky. Maybe there is an exception somewhere that someone can come up with, but the fact is Cincinnati football is among the best in the nation. Yes, elite players in N. Ky. will transfer/move to go to Highlands and Highlands doesn't need to recruit to get them to go there.

I can't believe the public school programs don't rebel about being compelled to compete with the private and independent schools. In PA, all the private schools compete for one championship. KSHAA looks like they are owned by these schools!

Explain what an independent school is and how it is different than a public school.

You obviously have never been to Highlands. Their facilities have nothing to do with why kids go there. Their facilities are probably some of the worst in NKy...lol

The bit that I posted at the start of the thread is from Mike Leachs book "Swing your Sword". Mike at Texas Tech beat Texas and Oklahoma a number of times. Did Tech have better players than either? Did Leach allow those around the program to complain about real or percieved advantages at Texas and Oklahoma? Did Tech have a better coaching staff? Did they have better schemes than Texas and Oklahoma?

Tech controlled thier fear (conventional wisdom),

Tech found its strength (simplicity,repetition,leverage),

and didn’t worry about what Longhorns and sooners could do (4 & 5-star players, first class faciliteies, tradition).

I don't know Highlands numbers, but I don't think they are a "big" school. I could be wrong maybe...

 

And being near Ohio probably doesn't help Highlands in the way you're thinking. You never hear of Ohio kids coming to Kentucky for football. I haven't anyway. I do think that being near Cincinnati helps because the level of competition is better than most, if not all areas of the state.

 

Roughly 800 students which means roughly 400 boys.

Top notch staff across the board. Total support from administration. Lots of depth. Lots of speed. Balanced Offense. Great up front on both sides. Great kicking game. Some breaks. Turnovers. Multiple defense that can disguise+mix fronts/coverage.

You must have the Jimmies and the Joes AND the Xs and Os.

 

Also dont forget the work ethic also is very important. You can be an average team with the Jimmis and Joes, and not the X and O's. You can be a average team with the X's and O's and not the Jimmies and Joes. You can be a good team with the Jimmies and Joes and the X's and O's. However you become a great team and a great program with both of those and the heart and work ethic to go with it. I have seen to many times kids with all the talent in the world, but they think that is all they need and don't end up pushing theirselves anymore to be great or to push their team to be great.

 

Highlands and Trinity has all those things.
