This is an OK hire for Dixie and a much better situation for Coach Brossart than he had at Cov Cath. Quite frankly, he was in over his head at Cov Cath and the jump from Finneytown to Cov Cath was much like Faust's jump years ago from Moeller to Notre Dame. That didn't work out too well either. While he had the skills to be somewhat successful at Finneytown, you can't use the same formula at other schools. You need to be able to adjust to the type of kid and talent you have. Even long tenured coaches still make adjustments from year to year based on what they have, and this is after years of having players come up through your system. Brossart was unable or unwilling to see the adjustments in personnel and/or systems that needed to be made. He stuck with kids at positions they should not have been playing, and was reluctant to give younger kids the opportunity to make a contribution. I am thinking he has learned from that and will make the needed adjustments this time around.

 

Also, outside of the X/O side of things there is alot more fan involvement in successful programs and he was not real good at handling this. Instead of managing the positive and discounting the negative, he basically tried to shut it all down. Again I would think this is another area he has improved in as to be successful at Dixie he will need to get all the right kids out, and increase the fan/community involvement in the program.

 

I for one am wishing him success in his new role.

But for the sake of not re-opening that can of worms, let's leave that situation out of this thread and keep it in the archives. Agree?

My sources tell me he with have to hire from outside as none of the assitant coaches have elected to return.

 

I find it hard to believe that all of them decided not to return, especially those that are Dixie alums, and have been around for years. However, change is a good thing here. We'll have to give Brossart time, and see how things work out.

 

The one that really surprises me that elected not to come back is Coach Vaughn. He is Dixie football as OD75 alluded to.

What's dumb about it. I don't like the hire. Mooney is smaller than Dixie, beatable. Elder has field turf and is still genuinely a slow team that executes just well enough, along with a boatload of pride. The fact remains with DB, will it be about him or about the work. Time will tell.

 

Mooney is smaller than your Elder's and St. X's,,,,but in terms of a Kentucky Classification they would translate to a 4A program and two of the past 5 years Mooney arguably had the best team in Ohio. The 2007 team that beat Cov Catholic was a junior dominated team for Mooney that was dominate in 2009 and ranked top 10 in the country.

Will Tom be involved with the program in any capacity?

The bottom line in any great football program is that everybody has to be on the bandwagon. Head coach is where it starts but you must have the players "buy into " it as well as the parents , fans , faculty , and assistant coaches. Everybody has to be on the same page and work dilligently to achieve the same goals. In my opinion , that is the difference between a good program and a great program.

 

Give coach Brossart some time and be patient , he just might be what Dixie needs to be competitive again. I can't be against anybody who volunteers their time to help teenagers wheather their payed or not. Good luck coach , and hopefully we can see a more competitve Dixie back on the Highlands schedule again soon.

Well, the choice has been made, whether we agree with it or not it's time to get behind the boys. Time to do all we can to encourage the effort and sacrifice it takes to build a winning program. If the guys work hard and believe, everything else will take care of itself. That goes for all the programs at DHHS whether athletic or academic.

From what I heard there were a couple reasons.

 

1. Money. and it was a significant amount due to him being AD at Cooper.

2. The Cooper program has been his since the school was built and it finally turned the corner after last season so he is personally invested in the program.

 

and this is JMO but I also think he was smart to stay at Cooper. The kids like him and the rest of the staff, and they could be on the verge of something special there. This is a team that is growing and the recent success is going to do nothing but help out.

Dave is a very knowledgable coach. He works hard. But, in the end, is all about having talent to compete. All programs have off season programs to increase players strength, speed, toughness, etc. Players win games not coaches. Highlands success can be matched by no other program in N. Ky. Why? Because because it has more tradition and success than any other program (dating back to the 60's). Lots of programs have tried to use their blue print for success but it is just a different animal. Other programs have tradition as well but not like Highlands. Dave will success at Dixie if he has the talent to compete. You can believe it or not but Dixie has to compete with Beechwood, CovCath, Scott, SK, Holy Cross, Lloyd and yes Highlands for players. The proof is there.

Wow! You are all over the place there friend. Is it the talent or the tradition? I dont want to turn this into a H Jack thread but your comments about H are flattering and I am sure you intentions are good but you actually have no clue.

Talent is natural and god given, a kid can have all of the talent in th world but if a coach cant bring it out of him and a coach cant match talent with team needs then the talent is wasted imo.

I have seen teams over my 40 yrs following H and NKY football and I can tell you I have seen H beat teams that they should not have beaten, coaching was the difference in those games not talent. JMO
