Solid list of top notch players. Even though Drake Bruns didn't make it I think the 3 yr starter has the most upside of any DB in the state. His size, speed, aggressiveness are all perfect traits that will allow him to excel at the D-1 level.

 

With that said Kudos to Devin and Carter who had fantastic years for the Birds.

If I understand a couple of posts correctly, some folks are suggesting that the players selected has something to do with the number of posters from a region. Because I believe overall, year in and year out, the All BGP team is the most accurate one, let's examine the players selected and what region they are from (or at least the region I think their high school is from which I admit in some cases can be open to interpretation) :

This board is considered to have a large number of N. Ky posters. Yet by my count, only 6 of the 36 selected are from N. Ky. The next highest concentration of posters is probably Louisville (although a strong case could be made for E. Ky posters having the second highest concentration). 11 of the 36 players are from the Louisville area (12 if we throw Collins High School into that region). Big concentration of players I'll admit. Next highest concentration of posters I'd say is from E. Ky. 7 Players are from what I consider E. Ky (more than N. Ky). Next concentration of posters is from W. Ky. 8 players are from what I consider W. Ky (also more than N. Ky). Finally the lowest concentration of posters is from what I consider to be Central Ky. 3 (4 if Collins is considered to be in Central Ky and not the Louisville area) players are from what I consider Central Ky. People may disagree with a player or two being from the region I "assigned" them to but I'd say my assignments are pretty close.

 

So I'd think that if the kids selected were based on the number of posters on here from a specific region, N. Ky would have a lot more players selected than E. Ky and W. Ky. There are a lot more E. Ky posters than W. Ky posters, yet there were more W. Ky players selected than E. Ky players (1 by my count). I think the number of posters from E. Ky is probably pretty close to the number of posters from Lou. but the number of players selected from Lou is much greater than from E. Ky.

 

No doubt that Central Ky is the smallest represented area on here (number of posters wise) and it did have the fewest players selected, but when looking overall at the correlation of players from regions to number of posters from regions, I'm not sure that there is a true correlation.

 

Kids do have to be nominated by a poster or a coach to be considered for selection to the All BGP team and that fact that there are fewer posters from the Central Ky region may have caused fewer Central Ky players to be nominated, but I don't know that to have been the case. If there was a direct tie between number of posters and number of nominations, wouldn't N. Ky have had more kids nominated and selected than say E. Ky. and W. Ky.?

 

From what I understand, the Ru puts together a group of folks to make the selections and those people come from all areas of the state. The group includes some coaches that the Ru trusts to be honest in their assessments and not be homers.

 

So for the above reasons I'm not yet convinced that the number of posters from a region has an impact on the selections other than possibly through the nomination process.

 

Is it possible that the quality of football being played in Central Kentucky is just down except at just a few high schools, thus causing fewer Central Ky players to be worthy of being selected? Just throwing it out there for discussion.

Growing up in BG it was always called SouthCentral Kentucky. I always remember WBKO being the leader of news for SouthCentral Kentucky. I know in football terms BG is considered Western Kentucky but geographically it shouldn't be considered Western Kentucky.

 

Geographically Murray State should be WKU and Morehead should be EKU.

It is to us in the northern part of the Golden Triangle. Once we get south of Louisville it's all western KY.

Paducah is three hours west of BG. Hopkinsville is an hour and a half. That is WKY for you Golden Trianglers.

I once had an argument with westsider about this. I basically divide the state up into 3 sections. Anything east of Lexington is Eastern Kentucky, and anything west of Louisville is Western Kentucky. Thus, my parents live in Grayson County, so I consider them Western Kentucky. He was pretty vehement that it was NOT Western Kentucky. But, his description of Western Kentucky only seemed to include those counties that border the Mississippi.:lol:
